  1. you need to go and have a look at a car ,read the paperwork etc not make assumptions on a descriptions, these cars are now 15/20 years old,its not like buying a newish car from a dealer,as they get older, the less likely they will go to lexus for a service, and a lot of members on here do lots of things thereselves, the last service i had at lexus, basically oil and filters, came to £366,on a car worth anywhere between £1000 and 2000,not really economically viable,so people look for better deals

the car looks good, cambelt change should have been done at 60,000,where you need to check paperwork bills etc ,next one due at 120,000,so a way to go yet, change all the oils filters etc for peace of mind.tatty cars are a bit difficult to bring up to standard ,all according what you want it for .it is at the higher end pricewise, but prices are all over the place

  2. top gear its not really a car show, its an entertainment show that involves cars, its for people with no attention span, but there is no real demand for car shows except for enthusiast, would only be a small audience.at least there is a classic car show, and a lot of the content is interesting, people driving fast around airfields and racetracks does'nt give any indication of real world car usage

i watch wheeler dealers, for the love of cars, chasing classic cars, and things like fast and loud, none of them are perfect but a lot better to watch, while the wife got her soaps on.to be fair jodie kidd can drive fairly well, she done quite a few races in the past

  3. in defence of diesels,i had 2 bmw 530d company cars, before i retired, and iv got to say they were absolutely faultless,i used to to 40/50,000 miles a year, fantastic performance, approx 45mpg,little noisy in morning at start up service intervals at about 16/18000 miles, depending how you drove it, servicing exspensive, but i never had to pay for it, i got an ls400 when that went back,i don't think i would want an 18 yr old diesel bmw

toyota don't seem to be very good with diesels, the one in the amazon landcruiser is a bit archaic, fhe d4d in the hilux and colorado

landcruiser are good but not that refined, you would'nt want any of these in an ls

  4. i had a ds estate late 70s,early 80s,called the safari, fantastic car for its day, could get the two kids and 2 old english sheep dogs in it the single spoke steering wheel, and the swivelling headlights i liked, the button on the floor for the brakes took some getting used to ,my wife had 2cv then progressed to gs estate,i had a diesel cx safari after the ds

quite a car when it came out in the fifties

  5. the old dear passed the test again with no problems, last year i had two advisories,re parking brake and nearside bottom balljoint,i fitted new brake shoes, cleaned it all up,fitted new balljoint a bit back,

im pleased to look forward to another years motoring now,had the oil and filters done at the same time,so all good to go.always a bit of a fingers crossed time with an old cars, but all is well in my lexus world tonight

  6. i bought a k reg about 6 yrs ago for about £600 with 242000 miles, put another 28000 on it in 2 yrs, sold it for same money, hardly spent anything on it,good cheap motoring, lets face it these are in banger money territory, there either bought by people who will drive it into the ground or till something major goes wrong and throw it away,or by the gentleman enthusiasts who occupy this forum

its just an observation but in spite of all the wonderful comments about ,how we all consider them one of the best cars in the world last for ever ,overengineered etc etc not too many of you will buy high mileage examples. lets face it even at 1200 and last for a year is still very reasonable compared with a new car and you arrive in style
