  1. Clarkson and co are incredibly biased toward German manufacturers. On Top Gear, Japanese cars barely get a mention even though nearly every survey published shows they consistently come out on top for reliability. Week after week the three-pointed star is promoted shamelessly, yet to mention Lexus in the same breath as Mercedes or BMW is unheard of. I can't recall a Lexus comparison test drive on the programme at all. A real shame. Such a blinkered view of car brands is deplorable and I believe Top Gear actually influences German car sales worldwide to the detriment of excellent cars like Lexus.
  2. If you smear the black painted door pillars with some vaseline petroleum jelly and wipe off the excess, it leaves a waterproof coating that buffs up beautifully with a soft cloth, from matt to shiny black. Works on black plastic/rubber trim strips too. Every little helps!
  3. I have used some waterless -wash stuff called 'Spray 'n' Shine ' (£20 for 5ltrs), which I found on the net. I was a bit sceptical at first, but it actually works brilliantly. NO scratches or swirls on my lovely Chichester Blue LS and the shine is fantastic. Now with the hose-pipe ban in place I will have the shiniest car on our street. Little tip-- don't use in the hot sun though -- best results I found were when the paintwork was cool. Five litres is enough for dozens of 'washes'.
  4. Anyone know if the 'Tank Average' dashboard display found on the 98-00 LS is measured in U.S.gallons (which are smaller) or, in Imperial gallons on cars imported into Britain? Did vehicles imported here have their displays adjusted for the British market? If not, our M.P.G. readings could be out of kilter quite a bit over long distances.
  5. Found the LOC on Google after buying a Mk4 LS 400 (W-reg) with 102k miles. It has good history, excellent bodywork for the year,(tiny bit of rust) and almost everything works toy-wise. Fabulous to drive. Unbelievably quiet and smoooooth! I swopped from a 3.5 V6 Honda Legend, (which was a very good motor), to the Lexus out of curiosity. I'm very glad I did. The move to the Lexus was a step up in refinement from the Honda.
