  1. I looked into the problem of adding mp3/ipod input to my rx300 mk2 and decided that the car is such a nice design it would be a shame to pull it to pieces. I have instead got one of these, I have loaded all my music files to it and tuned a spare fm button to it.

Its a far cheaper and neater solution to the problem, and its works really well.

It is cheaper in any means - what is the point having premium audio system and play FM transmitted music?

  2. If you have complete set of discs (usually four of them) - try one of the others - this will eliminate disc as a cause of the problem.

(if normal - should be read the disc - and of course you will be out of the coverage - then you'll just have to buy a new disc).

In case it is not reading the disc - probably lens issue - it is plastic, not glass - therefore it gets old. Lexus repair man couldn't be very helpful (except to take the DVD reader unit out). AV tech would be much more handy.

Last resort is to buy a second hand DVD unit - crashed vehicle or else.

  3. Usually there is a difference between the speed measured by a GPS device and the car's speed meter. But the speed shown by the car is higher than the actual. This is done on purpose - they want you to think you already speeding.

But you wrote the speed meter is 5 miles higher than actual (measured with GPS I presume) so the most logical reason is change of the tire length, although 5 miles difference is way too much. The mileage of the car has almost nothing to do with the actual speed, so i shouldn't worry.

  4. Quote from here affecting the wipers, not washers and it is about IS:

Toyota Announces Two Voluntary Safety Recalls of Certain 2003 and 2004 Corolla and 2006 Through Early 2012 Lexus IS Vehicles

TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 30, 2013 – Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. (TMS), will conduct two separate safety recalls involving approximately 752,000 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles and approximately 270,000 Lexus IS vehicles.

The airbag control module for the supplemental restraint system (SRS) in the Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles could have been manufactured with application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) that are susceptible to internal shorting. These ASICs could experience an internal short that creates abnormal current flow and increased heat. If this occurs, there is a possibility that the ASIC could become damaged. In some instances, the front airbag(s) and/or seat belt pretensioners could inadvertently deploy.

The second safety recall involves the front wipers on certain Lexus IS vehicles where the wiper arm nut might not be sufficiently tight. If movement of the wipers is restricted by an external load, such as a buildup of heavy snow on the windshield, one or both of the wipers could become inoperative.

Owners of vehicles covered by these safety recalls will receive an owner notification letter via first class mail in the near future. Any authorized Toyota or Lexus dealer will perform this recall at no charge to the vehicle owner.

Detailed information is available to customers at www.toyota.com/recall and the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331 or www.lexus.com/recall and Lexus Customer Satisfaction (1 800-255-3987).

Not sure if by "washer" you mean the pump spraying liquid on the windshield, or the motor that turns the wiper?

  5. Just read for a similar problem (Although not RX, but IS was affected) - the solution was removal of the fuse for headlights washing.

Which now means you would fail the MOT - remember to put it back in before going for the pointless inspection!

I didn't say he should leave it off, just a hint of where he might start looking. If it is the headlight washer module - it can be replaced or bypassed easily. As it is described here: http://www.infoarena.com/lexus/HWMod/

  6. I just read your post in the other thread. It seems you have done what it takes. But don't give up - out there is someone who might fix your car. I don't know what they did. To me it seems logical that they eliminate the possible causes one by one, until they find the one that drains your Battery. No doubt they checked the alarm first. I would suggest you take out the fuses of minor things that aren't essential for the safety of the driving - ask them to suggest which ones you can disengage. Hopefully you'll find it!

  7. i can only speak to my personal experience that we are going through right now. 45k mile 2006 RX400h. battery is dead nearly everyday, 4th new battery in 6 months. major electrical fault somewhere along the way leading to overnight drain. lexus service has had the car for 8 weeks and cannot make diagnosis. only suggestion is to disconnect battery EVERY TIME WE USE THE CAR. which is obviously unacceptable.

so the battery issue is a major major problem.

if that doesnt turn you off... i can give you a great deal on a 2006 Rx 400h...

Have you ever consider a second opinion? Clearly you have a problem, but that is not affecting all cars of this model, so it is has a cause and possible solution. The advice you were given is totally unacceptable - did you tried another garage?

  8. Hi guys, Happy New Year to all of you.

Our local Lexus dealer has a new years special offer for the LEXUS iPod/iPhone integration kit - (Lexus-part# PZ473-00263)

    07-09-06-lexus-ipod-integration-kit.jpg

instead of the usual price of 300 US$ (190GBP), they are selling it for 160 USD (100GBP).

So i gave myself a present!

I did the installation myself (it is actually plug and play) and i'm really impressed with the sound quality. So far I'm very happy - compared to the Anycarlink I have removed it is much better sound with my Iphone 3GS.

Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures during the installation, but it is easiest job.

More info you can find here: http://lexusenthusiast.com/2007/09/06/new-official-lexus-ipod-integration-kit/

  9. Thanks Rad. Any particular reason why you put the Conti first?

Actually I put Bridgestone first, then Conti and also good are the Dunlops. All this based on reviews by different organizations, magazines and users (mostly friends, but also internet). The Potenza's are undisputed, while good point for Conti is the price and some Dunlop's are prone to bubble on the side.
  10. The one thing you should consider is this is AWD vehicle, so the four tires should be the same on each corner. Mine was fitted with Potenzas, but when weared - I've replaced all four of them with Continental ContiSportContact5. The fact that this is the only part of the car that keeps you on the road I wouldn't make compromise. There are many things that I could, but tires and breaks - never.

PS The rotation of the wheels is something i do every season - when putting back the summer tires, they go to the next position, thus ensuring even wear.

  11. Hopefully the spacers will solve the issue anyway. It is extremely strange though.. as you say the cars are identical and so are the alloys. My car is 2006 though, but I doubt it makes a differene

Just make sure that there is sufficient thread length on wheel fixings when being used in conjuction with the spacers. which ones did you buy? I'm sure there is no difference in the cars - but maybe there is some in the tires? I made some photos of the fitment of both sets and there is no difference between the summer and the winter tires and the distance to the shock absorbers. It is close (2mm) but they don't rub. I can post those if interested? Anyway - Happy Holidays!
