Its done 101k miles, not that many for a Lexus...I changed the oil in the diff last week and it improved things for a bit, now the noise has started to come back again...I know it appears to be a rare failure for this type of car. I also jaceked the car up to check the rear wheel bearings but there is no play in them...to me it's classic diff, worse under load accelerating, not so bad when backing off...I'll be very happy if you tell be it could be something else.. :-) Thanks Rod B.

I have a 2002 MY GS 300 and the diff has started to whine. I have had various second hand units offered to me by online breakers, one of which is a diff from a 1998 MY car. I was just wondering if anybody knows if this diff will be OK on mine or if there is anything I have to watch out for in taking a diff that's not from the same model year car...? I'm new to the forum so thanks in advance Rod B.
