  1. No bulb blown. Its a simple system and all checks out. I have to think its a code issue then. Is there another way to clear the codes besides disconnecting the battery of fuses?

    Resetting the codes will not work, its not a stored fault that will flash the warning up. Its a simple circuit that, when open circuit the warning will display. There has to be a break in the continuity somewhere

  2. My 'Brake Wear' warning also comes up occasionally, along with the LED.

    I think this is a different warning to the normal brake light out.

    Mine is intermittent, although I have not checked the sensors them selves (if its triggered its triggered, shouldn't be intermittent!) I suspect a break in the wire somewhere. The reason is because I had a good run of 3 months and no warning light, then after fitting new wheels on one side of the car and turning ignition on the warning was back! Will have to investigate further when I have the time

  3. I have had to replace the whole link arm on mine (drivers side) due to it snapping on the dual carriageway (!!!) at the join between bush carrier and arm.

    Yours looks to be a little more rusty than mine...although whether mine went due to corrosion or a previous knock/fracture is up for debate. I think more likely is due to the wheel taking a clump at some point in its life.

    Anyway it was £170ish from Lexus and they are not sided. Just thought i'd chip in with that info

    EDIT: you will want to order new mounting hardware too (bolts etc) for a hassle free job. Get under there a day before and soak it all in plug gas or other penetrating spray to easy the pain, although I suspect you will still need to use some heat on it.

  4. An iPod/iPhone connection is the best thing to do IMO. You can tap in between the CD changer and amp, therefore retaining ALL stock functionality. Flick a switch and you have your iPhone input to the amp with great quality. The wiring is hidden under my drivers seat, run up into the centre console and hidden from view.

    Cost me circa £30 in bits.

    I've seen that mod, you tap into the signal wires and use a relay and switch to change between the changer input and the mp3 player input.

    I might get around to doing it at some point.

    That's the one, its on Clublexus. I would highly recommend it! Changing CDs all the time is a chore. And tape converters are terrible sound quality

  5. Well a quick few things I've picked up on over the last couple of months being on a few ls forums:

    Power steering pumps often leak and cause the alternator to fail - quite an in depth job

    Starter motors tend to give up the ghost - also a fairly in depth job

    Listen for any clonks on road test from suspension - Parts from lexus are £££ and non-genuine parts can often be very poor quality.

    Gearbox is not what I would call slow, but should respond well to driver inputs.

    Early (-95ish) ECU capacitors can leak and cause all sorts of very strange problems (lots of info on clublexus) If you are a good solderer(?) you can replace these yourself

    'Common' problems on an LS are not common when compared to any other car, they are simply the most likely bits to give you grief.

    it wont play MP3s but it will play burned audio discs - or if you want to play music from your MP3 player or phone then the cheapest option is to buy a cassette adaptor which comes with a headphone jack - music quality is very good and it also works a handsfree kit if you get a call

    Casette adaptors are cheap but audio quality is only ever as good as a tape (not great, certainly wont get the best out of our stock sound systems) and look untidy. Something like a parrot handsfree will work well for listening to ipod or mp3 player, but an expensive option!

    DIY ipod hookup cost me circa £30 and 3 hours of my time with some soldering :)

    I have a '99 with pioneer audio and it DOES NOT play MP3 cds, thankfully I've managed to tap into the stock amp wiring and DIY a iPod/iPhone connection. Have a switch wired in to switch between cd changer and Iphone. Uses the main plug rather than the headphone jack too, so sound quality is at its best

  8. Advice from mechanics and an automatic gearbox specialist I have spoken to suggest that unless you KNOW and have documented regular trans fluid changes, it can do more harm than good. They have told me that so long as everything operates as it should, leave the trans fluid well alone.

    Does anybody else on here have experience of changing/flushing the fluid on a high mileage car with no history of regular changes?

  9. I'm 31. But running a 4.0 V8 at 23 or 24 is very cool! Particularly considering most people that age are driving around in Ford Fiesta's or similar!

    I figured that for people my age, it's never going to be a better time to run a V8! And everybody needs to own a V8 once in their lives :)

    Quite right! Everyone should own a V8 at some point.

    You mentioned "wheels" are next on the agenda. New ones or getting yours refurb'd? I would try to keep it original if you can, or get Lexus DHP alloys, but anything too big will probably spoil the ride. Just my opinion though. Each to their own!

    I'm afraid I'm not a fan of keeping things standard. Wheels will be 19" with coilovers dropped to match. I understand the ride will be compromised slightly, but should still ride like a Lexus was designed to :)

    Was going to import the wheels from Japan and go for a VIP look (big in the states) but I can't justify dropping £1500 on wheels and tyres when I have a house deposit to save for.

    Just got my '98 ls last week :)

    I'm freshening it up, and emailed climair last week. Must have had both our inquiries at around the same time! I got the same answer, they is no stock at the moment so would come straight from Germany.

    In the US and Japan you can get OEM front and rear wind deflectors, which would be ideal. However, the US company you can source them from does not ship to UK (really?!) and they call them vent visors or similar. Weathertec also list wind deflectors, however I believe they are Climair sold under a different name.

    I've had deflectors before and rated them, so would like another set, but having the fronts only concerns me as I'm not sure it would look right. They confirmed to me that they are for the front only.

    Nice one on getting the discount, it didn't even cross my mind to ask!
