  1. same here, only mine in our local area, seen one other ls430 since ownership 3 months ago and i am looking out for them, got a quick look at the rear of a ls400 the other day or did i dream that ///

it does get some looks though either there thinking what is that, or what is that driving it LOL.

    Happy new year all.

because the car is 10 year old and quite rare around here i thought i would complement it with a 10 year old rare watch to wear,

    tomandbreitling008.jpg

A mint 10 year old Breitling B1 with rare UTC (the little watch underneath) they stopped making it in 2006 and there like hens teeth so are the end links witch attach the UTC to the bracelet, it's on original fighter bracelet full box papers just back from breitling service not that it needed it as it was a safe queen.

i have the original price list and catalog from 2001/2 and it would have cost £1595.00 for the watch and £600.00 for the UTC, so i guess a Boeing pilot could have drove a lexus and owned the watch, with it's 4 different time zones available simultaneously on one watch.

note to self must go and see my shrink in the new year.LOL

    breitlingB1UTC004.jpg

. Breitling introduced the quartz movement in the 70's to combat japan's quartz revolution on watch movements which where flooding the market with more accurate and reliable watches, a bit like there cars

    the 120Y for instance.

There is no doubting your passion for the Breitling watch but can you explain to me what it actually is that fuels that passion? Mike

Hi for the same reason i like certain cars, they way they are engineered and designed, the way they are put together, there history,

not the best video but gives a good enough impression, Not only Breitling but Rolex,AP,JLC are all made to the best possible standards now Seiko have gone one better for the automatic and called it the spring drive the quiet revolution (trust the japs) and these watches retail about 2k 5.5k

my Breitling automatic runs at 28,800 VPH (vibrations per hour) 480 ticks every min and is purely mechanical, the spring drive is what you could term a hybred automatic quartz and has a continuous movement.

so in many ways like Lexus design engineering precision and quality, just a snippet into my passion for all watches + if you buy at the right price you will never loose money and they very often gain in value.

    hope this helps

  3. Had the car nearly 3 months and loving it but some questions remain unresolved even from the dealers and internet searches, i have been playing around with the rear air con and found out 3 things,

and the hand book is less than helpful

1 when on low it blows air to the rear screen, either side of the sub woofer and the temp is cooler than the digital settings

2 high blows through the rear side vents and the temp is cooler than the digital settings

3 Hi and A/C light on makes no difference to the temp when rear temp button pressed but does alter the front digital readout and that temp changes.

I have left the rear blower on low and it looks to keep the rear screen clear on inside mist or when i have 4 adults all breathing buts that's all i can find out at the moment,

It looks to me as though it's for warm/hot days to aid cooling as the heat in the rear is fine supplied from the front and two center rear vents.

anyone got another take on this or any links Regards Mark.

  4. well the old girls back and in tip top condition,

    under warranty

    general work £153.90

replaced steering colum + telescopic function £1244.47

    steering fluid £46.31.

while it was in engine warning light came on, and smart start door handle failed.

    replaced faulty door handle

replaced faulty oxygen sensor+ repair smart entry £220.00

    Door handle sensor £166.67

    sensor oxygen £183.91

    Battery for smart key £9.56

and fixed a few other slight niggles so all in all very good service, loan car provided but not going to ***** the CT200h owners on this thread, but glad to be out of it.

    Regards MARK

when i got her home the drivers door mirror refused to fold in so i Googled it and the cure is WD40 good spray all round and now glides back and forth like a good un, sometimes they get stuck at a notch ?????

they also shown me the correct way to operate the smart entry you fold your fingers under the door handle with your palm touching the outer casing of the door handle and pull, that's where the sensor is not on the inside as most people think,

There still in confusion about the ATF fluid change but the fluid is RED and clear and ihave a quote from a indy of £136.00 all in for a change.

  5. This topic is now getting out of hand!

In is on the left, out is on the right!

    Untitled_0022_0001.jpg

Lexus are still pondering the question about a fluid change, i had a look at the fluid on the end of the dipstick and it's the color of the one on the left (red) no bits clean red, so the ball is in there court, so to speak, they a tittering about how much oil to use.

that dip stick a bugger to get back in.

  6. I must admit that features like these are great in summer, down all windows and open moonroof, but are not entirely foolproof, like smart keys i had to check it was locked for the first few days by getting the wife to hold the keys while stepped away from the car while i attempted a break in, the sight in the car park of the wife with her arms folded and me pulling at every handle like a man possessed must have been a sight to see.

  7. Well this goes from a simple telescopic issue to the ridiculous, took the car down yesterday for my appointment with the dealer it had stopped working that morning, anyway mentioned the fact that i had to wiggle the steering wheel and he looked at me funny, after an hours diagnostic and several cups of Delicious hot chocolate, i got the long walk over by the service manager, right he said we are going to replace the whole steering system, talk about cracking a nut with a sledge hammer, 7 hours labour and £1200 @ cost to them for parts all done under warranty, will this fix the telescopic problem, yes he said and it will fix the wiggle, everything will be brand new from the steering wheel downward to the box,

he did mention that if the wheel is at the full out position which mine was very nearly the connection can fail as they believe the connecting wires are not long enough and it can become disconnected.

I mentioned the ATF fluid again and he said he is waiting for a technical service sheet from Lexus HQ he wants to know how much fluid to use and that's being done as well,

having done all that i am trying to shoe horn myself into a absolutely beautiful GS 450 on a 55 plate 42000 miles in silver, there could be a deal so i could be moving forum sub section, LOL

I did not take a test drive i was chatting the the salesman and he was plying me with the hot chocolate which was having the desired effect, along with the very lustrous sales lady with the big boobies who kept putting a new cup down right in front of me on a very low coffee table with a very loose top on, she was almost like the SC an open top, i tried to avert my gaze but the force was strong in her.

  8. telescopic steering wheel reach stopped working today no noise nothing when button operated, car under warranty so not bothered, all day like this, then got in the car before and it worked start up memory works, and the button,

any one any ideas, don't want this to develop and i am going to ring the dealer, any pointers as what it could have been.

i have read very cold weather can affect this delicate steering wheel operation ?????

was there a TSB om the wires not being sturdy enough

  9. My ls430 starts faster once the system check has been completed, are we talking about getting in and turning right over to start, or turn over to pre start then after system check start, turn right over 1-4 sec after pre check 2 sec, that's crank and fire up. it does take a little time for all those computers and senors to speak to each other, it like runs a little diagnostic, a mechanic said to me once it's like the shake hands start, they all have to shake hands to each other before they are happy and will start, personally i think he had been at the thinners, but a nice way of putting it.

  10. The thing is, the receipt didn't say gearbox oil changed.

It said gearbox oil changed - 80w/90 code is OILG80w

This sounds like an honest mistake as that weight can go in the diff. Some confusion between the mechanics and the service manager could easily lead to this. Mechanic says he used 2 litres of 80w. Service looks it up on the pc, comes out as a gearbox oil and types that in.

If they were being dishonest it would have said Gearbox oil changed.

Do you plan on going all American with this, with your rule book, sales acts, service acts, 10,000 sheets of legislation and demand the whole word from them along with a brand spanking new LS460L ( with the gearbox oil changed )?

The issue is not about dishonesty i have already mentioned that to Lexus the question is, how the service data sheet provided by the salesman for presale inspection on this car implied to a buyer that and the list is

Full service 80,00 miles 7 years.

    then lists

    Battery, trans,

    dunlop

    element air ref

    gskt,drain ,plug

    oil filter

    washer fluid

    coolent

    other,

    engine oil

    gearbox oil 80w/90<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

    consumarbles

    environmental charge

    visual safety report

on a later service data sheet it states timing belt has this been changed/checked/ or just looked at, well it has been changed but it does not mention that in the data sheet.>>> timing belt changed >>>it just says "timing belt" so you are right it should say changed but because it did not then it becomes ambiguous for that point of sale.

coolant has it been changed yes>>.but just states Coolent

dunlop has it been changed yes>>>>but just states Dunlop

gearbox oil 80w/90 ????? it does not say changed like the others above but give the impression it has if you follow the there system.

it also states engine oil but no number no value so has that been changed. yes it has so again we follow there system

gearbox oil with a value of wrong oil has it been changed .......no ..........the system becomes confusing.

In-fact unbeknown to you, you are actually agreeing with me in your own knob out way.

the report is to ambiguous for customers to make an informed choice end of, it's up to Lexus to amend there system because when i asked the question had it been done the reply was if it's on the sheet then it's been done, then after buying the car the issue of the correct oil is raised on this forum and that's when further digging by the customer finds out the truth, at no time during the sale was i advised to seek the whole truth by telephoning the Lexus servicing garage to see what really went on,

    what would you assume.

and as for a new Ls460L yes please in Black to match my eyes.

  11. I think Pete's knobs already outed,

this is not about recommended changes of oil, this is about a gearbox oil change that was listed on the service data sheet that was not done. recommended or not it is a false claim by Lexus service.

and FWIW they have all ready been down the recommended millage/time/customer driven ATF change waffle and after a 10 min phone call agreed it is misrepresentation.

    Knob put back.

underpants on the outside ready for action.

  12. Before you get your knob out with all the sales legal malarky.

You need to check a couple of things.

What's the latest information regarding your car from Toyota. Do they now recommend to change the fluid at 100k and merely check at 60k.

Do they recommend to check, if its not dirty or doesn't require changing don't do it.

It is not unknown for Toyota to change these details after a few years.

So just before you go in with full force, you need to double check these details that they do recommend a change at 60k etc.

it's not about them recommending a fluid change at 60k or 100K, it's about toyota/lexus service data sheet misrepresentation, saying they have done something when after further investigation they have not or there interpretation can go one way or another , it was to ambiguous under the sale of goods act for the customer to make an informed choice.

spoke with trading standers as well and they say recommended oil changes are nothing to do with the core complaint.

the Auto is running as smooth as silk, so no problems there it's just i like to know what i am buying into, just like my watches and there provenance i like my cars to have an honest history. especially from a dealer.

    knob at the ready.

  13. Well good morning, according to Lexus the invoice states gearbox oil checked but not completed, which is the reverse of what it indicates on the service sheet, i have spoke to a legal beagle who says it's Misrepresentation, sale of goods act 1979 the service data sheet lead me to believe the car had a gearbox oil change when in fact it had not, still awaiting a call back from Lexus. this could open up a can or worms for who ever designed the service data sheets as its full of omission, and when it's produced to enable you to see the cars full history which is part of the process for making an informed choice about buying the car.

    Regards Mark

  14. Hi all i am well on with this, Lexus have some work to do, i don't want to go into detail as i am managing to keep to the point about the information given to me via the service data sheet, this gave me (or so i thought an informed choice), will update as soon as.

the transmission is a smooth as silk just a little feeling on cold mornings till it warms up,nothing faulty of any nature.
