  1. I think Panya may have a point - when I try really hard to take it slow, that's when the split second delay happens from gear 1 to 2.

KentIS300 and others have a point - maybe my oil needs changing in my auto box - but I heard these are long-life sealed units? Where's the dipstick for the auto box on the IS300?

Any idea or experience from main dealers in regard to how much they charge for an auto box oil refresh?

    Cheers.

  2. Hi,

I bought an IS300 2002 with 41k on the clock with 11 Lexus stamps - never missed a beat in regard to main agent services. I am pleased with the car.

Previously I had a 2006 Hyundai Coupe 2.0SE Auto, so it's a major leap but I was happy with the 4-speed Korean box for 6+years.

I need advice re the auto box in the IS300. I have only done 20 odd miles since I bought the car a fortnight ago, but if I take the car slow from standstill by pressing the gas 0.5cm (or lightly), it changes into 2nd with a slight pause. If I drive normally, it changes fine. It's as if its slightly unsure to change to 2nd, i guess because I am taking it slow. Kickdown and other stuff incl manual override paddle shift is fine.

If I do the same as the above, i.e. take it slow from standstill in ECR PWR mode (or Sport mode), the changes are bang on fine and I don't notice a thing.

Has anyone come across the above in their IS 300? I am Mr Finicky, so want to make sure there isn't a gearbox issue somewhere!!!

When and why would someone put their car into Sport mode anyway? Just want to understand is the Sport mode for town driving, motorway....??

    Look forward to your reply.

    Thanks,

    Sachin

  3. Jomo,

    Thanks for that valuable advice.

I'm not going to do it as I don't like butchering up the wiring - that would be the last thing on my mind as the car is original and I want to keep it that way.

What I will do is change the front side lights (501 LEDS) and do the same with the number plate lights and that's it!

Thanks again for your valuable advice.

  4. Hi,

    I have a 2002 IS 300 I bought a fortnight ago.

I noticed the brake light isn't working, could be blown.

Is it easy to change these bulbs - is getting to them quite easy from the boot?

Also, was wondering on doing a full LED change to get brightness and longevity.

Was thinking of doing the rear lights, number plate light etc...

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks.

  5. the original is300 wheels are machine polished (face and edge) with metallic silver spayed internals.

there is a choice for refurb - paint the whole wheel or carry out the above.

remarkably, price works out the same.

i have sourced a reputable alloy refurb outfit.

which choice do you recommend? comments?

  6. okey doke guys, looks like its a Lexus thing.

its a stock car, i havent messed about putting leds in it or anything.

i can just about hear the indicator whilst windows are shut and radio is off in pure silence with silky smooth v6, but otherwise i have to be vigilant looking out for left/right arrows on dash(!)

nevermind, i guess its a good thing afterall.

  7. Picked my car up this morning out of the main agents. Cambelt done, engineer went through car FOC. Free wash / vac / shiny stuff around the tyres. Drives the business. Those IS 300's look like an old bus being a 2002, but with 41k on the clock with 11 main dealer stamps in the book, the car drives the b*llocks. Car is in my friend's bodyshop, having front and rear bumpers painted in Platinum Ice. Wheels are going to the refurbishers this Sat - machine polished and sprayed internals in met silver.

Apart from the water in the n/s/f headlamp that may need some drying out / sealant, I think the car will look the bizz....

  8. thanks Steve.

I think they thought i was Mr Finicky as i was panicking like anything.

They started on the car at midday and its just complete, now in the wash.

I have asked them to throw the old belt in the boot for my reference, if they haven't thrown the belt in their bigger bin that is.

I am collecting the car tomorrow morning, but will take a pic of belt and post for reference.

    Rgds,

    S
