  1. What seems to me to be faintly ridiculous is that these cars come up with warnings about all sorts of things (including a periodic warning on mine that "LKA not available" which it wouldn't be because  I've turned it off) but they can't monitor the 12v Battery state and give us a warning when it  isn't what it should be. That to me is the real design fault, as is the lack of facility to jump start from the  traftion Battery.

  2. There is a lot of careless and inconsiderate driving out there. But there must  also  be a lot of mental illness, most of which is undiagnosed.  The object of the exercise is to avoid having an accident, not let monkey brain take over.  Best to try and  anticipate bad behaviour and drive accordingly, not engage with them when they've done it , you just don't know whether they're going to come at you with a weapon. The Lexus driver was a t**t but  some of the videos submitted say more about the person submitting the clip than the subject.

  3. I was looking at tyres for my 4RX earlier in the year and found several choices in the size mentioned, but recently when I decided to actually get them changed, I found I had a choice  locally of Bridgestones or Yokohama unless I wanted to pay close to £1000 for 4.  Tyres in the 235/55x 20 size seem to be fairly restricted at the moment. This might be due to time of year when distributors are running down stocks of summer tyres in favour of winters or it might be the old Covid supply chain problem, I don't know. I ended up with Bridgestones.

Yesterday, the dealership told me that Lexus UK rejected the warranty claim citing the reason for those creases is because movement on the seat rather than a manufacturing fault.

It's a car seat, people move around on it getting in and out. For the warranty co to blame it on movement is laughable, it's like a shoe manufacturer  claiming that your new shoes split because you'd been walking in them. This is not a cheap car, and I'm with Roy of the Rovers, I would be pursuing this vigorously.

  5. The old pollen filter scam. I had this with my local stealer. Queried why it wasn't replaced at the 2 year service, answer was we do it at the  minor 1 year service which they probably didn't. The thing is it's supposed to be part of the 2 yearly service  and is included in the cost. They're not cheap , about £90 , so if they can scam you for this on top of charging £180/hr to do little more than look at things it's a nice little earner for them. As far as the video goes, that's nothing more than an opportunity for upselling on top of their already extortionate charges.  As you may guess I'm getting a jaundiced view of Lexus' business practices and I don't suppose they will be getting better any time soon. My car is due for the expensive 6 year service soon so I will be asking for all removed parts to be left in the car after.

I've always had a fairly relaxed attitude to servicing , regarding it as  a further bribe to keep the warranty intact but with the advent of the new  Relax warranty and all it's exclusions I'm going to have to be a bit more hard nosed.

Definitely raise your issue with the dealer principal and Lexus UK if necessary. You're paying premium prices you don't expect back street  practices.

  6. Hi,

I'm no expert  on diesels but your post has raised some questions; Were the DPF/EGR removed  and remap done to try and cure the slow acceleration problem or did the problem occur after they were done? if it occurred after ,then they are most likely the source. Lexus cars do not take kindly to fiddling and from what I've read remaps are problematical as the software is protected to prevent it.

Have you got good compression on all cylinders?

This particular model wasn't the best Lexus ever produced. Have a look through this forum for a run down of all the problems owners have experienced. If you want 210hp out of a Lexus IS then best get  a petrol IS 250.

    Any help?

  7. Before you go spending any money, double check the tread depth readings. I had a similar report on my GSF, with a recommendation to have a 4 wheel alignment done at their (eye watering) cost. I took it to a trusted local tyre place and had the alignment done, came out perfect. I then went back and checked the tyres with a depth gauge and found that on the inner part of the tyre the sipes which run across the tyre were variable depths, every other one was 2mm deep and the rest were 4mm deep, so the wear wasn't as bad as Lexus were saying. You neeed to be careful with the so called safety checks that Lexus do, more often than not they're just trying to upsell.

  8. As regards resetting the ADAS systems if they need it, my insurer told me to get Lexus to do it and claim for the cost. The windscreen insurance should pay for it as the whole point of insurance is to put you back in the position you were in before the event. As it happened , I don't use the lane keeper system and the speed limit detection was no worse than before the screen replacement,so I didn't bother to get Lexus involved.

I mean again - Lexus Relax is master stroke when it comes to deception... how to make something worse to sound like it is actually better.

I'd say it's more than a master stroke, it's verging on misrepresentation. Has anybody seen it written down anywhere in Lexus advertising that Relax is equivalent to the manufacturers warranty? i.e anything the ASA can punish them for?

  10. Lexus ignoring a query sounds to me like an embarrassed silence. I have had issues with Lexus so called customer services before, where if it is difficult they either just ignore you or refer you back to the dealer. This can be overcome by threatening to forward your email of whatever to their MD for an answer. His email is available on the internet.

  11. As far as I'm concerned , as I've said before, this Relax "warranty" sounds suspiciously like a sham, designed to get a load more customers in to be rinsed by the dealers. The old extended warranty was pretty straightforward, they told you what wasn't covered i.e consumables, and everything else was. This Relax warranty contains,  in the T's and C's, lots of what I call weasel  words and clauses  such as "including but not limited to" when talking about exclusions. The issue about ICE is worrying because the ICE and sat nav and trip computer are all part of the same integrated system. If something fails I bet they decide it was the bit that wasn't covered, and these systems cost megabucks to put right.

The other thing that makes me suspicious is the alleged free status. We used to pay £7-800 for 2 years, not including breakdown cover. Are they going to finance this warranty by racking up the service prices by £3-400 a time. I think not.

So if there  is little  apparent financing and lots of escape clauses in the T's and C's what to do we think is going to happen when a claim is made?

I might be cynical but I've been driving for nearly 50 years and I'm well used to the motor trade's attempts to gouge customers.

I am really, really disappointed with Toyota/ Lexus over this. I like my RX and I would hate to have to change because the costs of running it become unmanageable. The old warranty gave a degree of confidence in return for a budgetable payment.

We'll see what happens as Relax starts to operate in practice and I hope I am wrong.

  12. I think if the bottle has to fit the compressor Lexus are the only place you're likely to get one (at an eye watering price) Someone please correct me!!

You were lucky that the goo worked, as I understand the chemical used  has a use by date which probably expired with the warranty. I really am against the prevalance of these repair kits, they are just  something  to cost us more money. The repair is only  temporary, nobody will repair a tyre filled with goo, they can gum up your TPMS sensors and they are only any use on small punctures. Anything larger such as might be caused by a pot hole cannot be fixed, needs a new tyre and a recovery call out. My current RX has a space saver spare and I'm afraid if it only came with a repair kit I wouldn't have bought it.

  13. I found that the RSA on both my previous GSF and current RX is a bit of joke. 80% of the time it works OK but there are some signs it just cannot read. On my local dual carriageway it is convinced the limit is 110, (should be 50) . I don't think actiing on  a wrong RSA figure is going to cut much ice with a magistrate!  It is also affected by rain, ice or dirt on the screen. All in all a useless complication that the marketing people thought we must have. In my view if you're not sufficiently alert to pick up on changing speed limits then perhaps you shouldn't be behind the wheel.
