  1. Sorry, never did get round to posting photos!!!

Well, as at Weds 1800, I am no longer an LS400 owner  - I gave it to my son currently in dire straits transportwise :crybaby:

Its been the best 6 years driving I've ever had, and have enjoyed the information and banter on here no end.

So thanks to all on here, maybe in the future I'll get another LS, but for the time being I went and bought a Discovery TD5 ES 2001 for £9995 with 57k on the clock, immaculate! :winky:

    Best regards

    Dave

  2. A reputable AutoTrans specialist will be able to do a 100% change for you by removing the pipes from the cooler and fitting them to a 'machine', running the engine and swapping old fluid for new

It works a treat - I had mine done last summer at a place in Dartford, Kent (bit far from you!), they didnt use T-IV but it was pink (and still is!) and there is NOTHING jerky or slipping about my trans - still just as smooth and silky as its always been.

  3. Anybody tell me what's the switch above my right foot near the footwell light. It looks like a dimmer but don't seem to do anything. Before you say look in the book I haven't got one.

I think its probably the volume control for the cars 'reply' to the remote control beeper

    From the manual -

"When you push the remote control switch the vehicle sounds one beep when the doors are locked by remote control, and 2 beeps when the doors are unlocked.

You can adjust the beep loudness with the knob under the dashboard. Turning the knob counterclockwise increases the volumme and turning it clockwise until it clicks turns it off"

    Regards

  4. thanks guys i did not go all together but i only poped in every now and then but now i have am getting it back on the road i will be back more often

the only thing i cant remember does the cd changer take copyed cd i think it does not but cant remember if not i will have to wire up the aftermarket cd player up again

Copies certainly work in mine - its the originals I'm not sure of :whistling:

  5. Hi

The "put new tyres on the back" advise is based on the fact that if the tyres with the most grip, i.e. the new ones go on the back then the car will, at the limit of roadholding, start to understeer instead of oversteer.

Understeer is easier for the average person to handle as just backing off will usually correct the skid....

But most of our cars have traction control along with lots of other clever bits of electronics to stop us crashing so I don't suppose it really matters.

I've just put the two new ones on the front as it was these two tyres that were being changed. I'm still here, haven't crashed.... yet, and am happy with it.

Dare say someone has another idea on this but hey, wouldn't life be boring if we all agreed!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Pete

    Pete,

Agree wholeheartedly with your comments except the one about traction control and clever bits - I'm not too sure when TC was standard on an LS but mine certainly hasnt got it. I've never had a car with it and I'm not too sure whether I'd like the 'car taking over' - I've been driving too long! The only bit of clever stuff I've got is ABS!

  6. I'm with Mikeb on that one. Was told when my one had a 60,000 service, that the cambelt was good for 100,000 miles. I'm going to have mine done in the next year or so. Just for peace of mind. Id hate to hear what all those bending valves would sound like.

It has been said that the LS has a 'non contact' engine so a broken belt would only give a sound of the belt flapping around - however I'm not totally sure so it might be an expensive error to make :crybaby:

  7. just as I was planning on selling the car starts acting up:

noise when I turn the wheels and a whine when I press the accellerator >_<

first thoughts - screwed ps pump and altenator,

    second opinons please :)

As Tigerfish says.... and I let mine get very low :crying: (dont ask!) during the summer and thought that I had screwed the rack, but topping to the correct level seemed to sort it out - no noise now!

  8. Hi and welcome - looks like you got a real bargain.

Stereo bulbs are in the back - for stereo removal look here http://carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalLexusLS400str1.htm

Oil and filter is as you say (well thats all I do anyway!)

Wheel center caps will probably be main dealer unless you are very lucky with a breakers!

Not sure about the leather, there have been discussions here in the past and have really amounted to no decisions in the end - no doubt someone will add something. I just clean mine every now and again, cream leather does get grubby!

Just enjoy your car - they are the best!

  9. Nigerian puppy scam warning

    October 10, 2007

    Web User

An email offering a puppy for adoption is the latest variation of the 419 scam Security experts are warning of a new email scam originating from Nigeria offering you the chance to adopt a puppy.

The emails, which have a photograph of the dog attached, are supposedly sent by a couple on a Christian mission in Africa, who have a Yorkshire Terrier who isn't coping with the heat very well.

However, the scammers behind the email are attempting to extract financial details from recipients in the latest version of what has become known as the '419' scam.

The number 419 relates to the area of Nigerian law that these financial tricks are contravening. Like many of these scams, this particular one is characterised by the poor use of grammar.

Part of the email reads: "I and my Husband have now decided to give her out on Adoptioto [sic] someone that can give her a good home and take very good care of her. She's a very loving puppy, she will be a good companion. If you know you can take very good care of her do send me a reply back through my email address below or you can give me a call so we can discuss on phone."

However, by targeting animal lovers, this particular fraud aims to attract a whole new audience, rather than the scams that offered large sums of money in exchange for bank details.

"Most of us are probably all too familiar with the scam emails which claim you have inherited millions of dollars, or won the lottery, but this time the scammers are deliberately pulling on the heartstrings of animal lovers," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos.

"The criminals are offering the pet puppy in an attempt to gather information from kind-hearted people who jump in to help. If you respond, the scammers will try and steal confidential information about you, or sting you for cash, and ultimately you'll be the one ending up in the doghouse," continued Cluley.

  10. I got a set for my MkII 2 years ago from a local shop and they are fine - I think they were £60 or thereabouts.

They were from Sovereign Rotating Electronics

Sovereign House, Christie Place, Durban Road, Bognor Regis, West Sussex. PO22 9RT

    Tel: +44 (0)1243 833420 Fax: +44 (0)1243 833421

I got the details off their website which looks hopeless from an ordering point of view - give them a ring
