  1. As the title says, sometimes (infrequently) I will start the car and drive off with the speedo sitting firmly on the stop. Get up to about 20 mph and it springs into life. Doesnt matter whether its cold or hot, wet or dry, it just happens occasionally - 3 times so far this year!!!

Obviously its not a problem problem but it would be nice to know what causes it if anyone can throw light on the solution.

    Cheers

    Dave

  2. Steve its very rare that a computer goes so titsup that you permanently lose everything unless someones taken a hammer to the hard drive, which after all is where the datas held.

I am sure that with a bit of effort I could retrieve most if not all of your data and return it to you.

PM or reply if you are interested

Bear in mind I'm off to France for the weekend tomorrow (Friday) lunchtime so I may not see a reply till I get back.

    Cheers

  3. I must be unlucky, I'm on my 4th Netgear router, a Belkin USB dongle failed after a week, and a Netgear 108 PC adaptor lasted a week - taking that back today.

Draytek are supposed to be the dogs danglies but a bit expensive, but I think I will go for the Vigor 600 from ADSLWarehouse at 29.99, it cant be worse than Belkin/DLink/Netgear etc.....

  4. Mine hasnt worked for over a year now, and it really pained me when it first stopped working , but, hey, it only cost you 850 its not THAT hard to just put the key in the lock........

You wait till the ignition barrel seizes and you are unable to put the key in to pull the barrel out, on the day before you are driving to the south of France - now thats when you get grief from er/im indoors!

  5. Hi guys

Having bought a nice set of 17"LS400 DHP alloys off ebay to fit to my 1998 LS, I am left with the question of which tyres to fit to the new wheels?

My existing 16" wheels are fitted with Dunlop 225/60/16 D8z tyres.

the new wheels all need new tyres but were fitted with 245/50/17 Pirelli P-Zero Asimmetrico tyres.

I am not keen on going to such a low profile tyre on the LS so I was considering a 225/55/17 tyre which gives almost the same circumference as the existing 225/60/16 tyre.

Tyres on the shortlist include, in no order of preference.

    Yokohama AVS dB

    Bridgestone Turanza ER300

    Pirelli P6

    Michelin Pilot PRIMACY

    Dunlop SP SPORT 01

If anyone has fitted one of these tyres to an LS or could recommend a different make or model I would welcome your comments.

    Regards

Hi - I'm now on my second set of Vredesteins, great in all weathers and wear well. I got 30k on the first set and am now up to about 12k on the second set with no appreciable wear.

That being said - I'm old, so my days of ear'oling around are long gone, but they do last.... - and occasionally I do corner a little faster than maybe I should!

    Never had a problem

  6. I need to know the dimensions of the rear springs on my '93 LS. I've had the originals replaced and the car now sits 1 inch lower than it should (14 as opposed to 15 inches centre hub to underside of wheelarch) - or is that wrong info? It certainly looks and feels lower than it was, and there is less suspension travel. The company that did it want the dimensions so that they can question their supplier.

I emailed lexusinfo@lexuscontactcentre.co.uk and got no reply - sent them a nudge and they just said ring 0906 661 0062. Tried it and at £1.50 a minute I am not adding to the already overflowing Lexus coffers!

    So can anyone help please?

    Cheers

    Dave

  7. Not quite, if you're trying to set a monitor up for say Pantone colour matching then you need to get a physical swatch and use that to compare colours - that way what you see really is what you get :)

Is that the sort of thing you're after Mike?

If you've got any of the Adobe apps like Photoshop then you should have a tool or option somewhere for Adobe Gamma - that should let you get things better I think?

Ah hah - you learn summat every day........................ :P

  8. I think I better give A Plan a try. Norwich Union's renewal was £700. Now I paid £540 last year, and I haven't made a claim, and there's no change to the details ie drivers, address etc.

Makes you wonder what on earth they are measuring me against !

I'm with NU and got a better quote from elsewhere. Rang them to cancel, told them I'd got it cheaper elsewhere - they immediately reduced my premium by well over 100 squid just to keep my business (presumably).

It makes you wonder how much it actually costs

  9. Surely the technology for disk/handbrake combo is so old now that it should just work, rocket science it aint!

My '93 LS has these (as do loads of other cars) and they work a treat.

I've just replaced my rear discs as they were getting thin, but the parking brake has always worked well and continues to do so.

However hard I apply it, it always just comes off with a pull on the lever with one finger!!

  10. When I was 14, I hoped that one day I would have a girlfriend.

When I was 16 I got a girlfriend, but there was no passion, so I decided I needed a passionate girl with a zest for life. :duh:

In college I dated a passionate girl, but she was too emotional.

Everything was an emergency; she was a drama queen, cried all the time and threatened suicide. :excl:

So I decided I needed a girl with stability. :D

When I was 25 I found a very stable girl but she was boring. She was totally predictable and never got excited about anything. Life became so dull that I decided that I needed a girl with some excitement. :winky:

When I was 28 I found an exciting girl, but I couldn't keep up with her. She rushed from one thing to another, never settling on anything. She did mad impetuous things and made me miserable as often as happy.

She was great fun initially and very energetic, but directionless. :tomato:

So I decided to find a girl with some real ambition.

When I turned 31, I found a smart ambitious girl with her feet planted firmly on the ground and married her. She was so ambitious that she divorced me and took everything I owned. :crybaby:

I am now older and wiser, and am now looking for a girl with big errrrrrrrrr you work it out..........
