  1. Glad you were looked after well by your local Lexus dealer. I am not surprised as Lexus Bristol have been excellent for me since my first new car in 2007. My daughter has had terrible customer service with Ford so I have seen both sides.
    Enjoy your car.

  2. My first Lexus was a new IS 250 Premier in 2007 I have had been lucky enough to have had 3 x IS 250’s then 2 x IS 250H and now my UX 250H since March 2019.
The first IS Premier was a fantastic car, electric everything. Steering wheel moved and seat went back when the ignition was turned off. Electric seats, wood everywhere and a beautiful 6 cylinder engine. You could watch the fuel gauge go down when you floored the throttle. After many Fords it was like a Rolls Royce to me.

Every purchase since the Premier the gadgets have gone down but the mpg has gone up 😂 yes I still get the feeling I could drive around the world without an issue and this forum bears out the lack of real problems compared to other makes. I have had “rattles” for about a year now mostly in the summer up around the sat Nav consul and have tried all sorts but I think I have just recently fixed it. It was a resonance vibration type of noise on rough open type road surfaces, the hotter the weather the worse the noise. My fix was 10mm strips of Kellogg’s cornflakes box pushed down around the speaker grill. Should have though of it sooner now I think of it.
Would I buy another Lexus??? Not sure. I have done 7000 miles since March 2019 so I do not need a car to drive to the moon and back and unlike years ago there are not many bad out there cars these days.

Eddy..... Yes that makes sense,I’ve been playing around with the foot operation for the tailgate and after a slow start have got it working every time, one kick in the middle and step back!(sounds like a country and western dance move!)

Took me a while to get the knack, you have to take a step back after swiping across with your foot. There must be a sensor somewhere, this prevents the tailgate from hitting you under the chin.

Two year service coming up in 2 weeks, not many miles in the las 12 months.

  4. I had the same issues with my IS 3 years ago. I have had my UX for almost 2 years now and no problems despite it not being used for long periods of time. I was advised at the time to buy the pouches (on eBay) that shield your keys and stop the car wasting power trying to connect with them all the time, eventually that particular system of the car goes to sleep. Not sure if I was told correctly or not but it does make sense. Also stops the possible of theft by scumbags who use those devices to enhance the signal from your keys while they are in the house to drive away in your pride and joy.

  5. IMO, why would anybody want or need a sport apart from the name. I have had mine for 2 years in March and with the premium pack it’s everything I need or want. It’s as quick off the mark as anybody would need.
I have only done 6500 miles so very low use but it’s averaged out at 52mpg since new as I have never reset it. I have white with a beige interior which for me is perfect. The rear boot opening with your foot swipe is good but after a while the novelty wears off so you use the buttons and keep both feet on the ground so you do not fall over.
Only dislikes. Small screen, another 30mm height would be so much better and would not restrict the view. Some times style and design overrides practicability. My daughter has a  Fiesta which has an iPad size screen, does not look great but is much better to use.
if your a 6ft driver do not pick up a 6ft passenger for the back. If you are a family of 4 do not go away for a camping holiday.
    Otherwise I love mine.

  6. I have had my UX coming up 18 months now and was wondering if any body else has noticed or heard this warning tone. It’s the parking censor tone I think and I have had it 5 or 6 times over the 18 months including twice today. A while back I glanced down at the dash quick enough to see a rectangular box over the top of the Battery charge symbol disappearing so I had no chance of reading what it said. First time today going along a country road not near or passing any cars. The second time there was a van parked on our left facing us in a lay-by off the road.
Phoned Lexus and they think it could be the forward facing censor that tells you are getting too close to cars in front and you must brake. I am not to concerned other that it was twice today but Lexus did suggest calling in and they can illuminate all the warning signals on the dash so we can see which it is.
It maybe be getting worse in which case it will have to go in but wondering if anybody else has noticed or heard an unexpected warning tone.

  7. I bet all your rattles are better now it’s colder, mine has virtually gone.

My worst buzzy noise was to the left of the instrument panel. Tried pushing bits of card in gaps. Biggest success was around the power button and the starter button, both sides of the outer ring. There were days when it was there, stopped parked up restarted and it had gone. The only thing touched was the starter button.

  8. In my experience the difference between economy and normal does not make much difference to the fuel consumption. I have tried the sport mode from time to time but I find it too fierce. I used to drive in economy for most of the time as it’s a more relaxed drive. My wife prefers the normal mode. I just leave it in normal now.
With the sat nav the wording just needs to be in a bolder black. It’s the white border that is unnecessary.
My comments about the mpg are based on the 5,800 miles the car has done. I have never reset it.

  9. I have had mine since March 19. It was the first one out of Lexus Bristol. It’s a great car. We bought it for the ease of getting in and out because we did not want a big car. Still only done 5,800 miles at round the 52 mpg mark. No motorways, just short journeys. My biggest complaint is the sat nav screen, it’s not big enough and the black wording with a white border is not clear despite trying numerous contrast and brightness settings. Saying this a 71 year old with variofocal glasses. In general the screen and its operation ease is a big step back from the numerous IS’s I had before.

  10. My alarm went off twice Monday early evening while the car was on the drive. No obvious reasons. Did not use the car Tuesday and it went off again at 04.00am this morning. Again no obvious reasons. Just spoke to the dealer and they suggested it could be a bug although could not see any. So I have just sprayed inside the car and turned off the theft sensor (to the left of the emergency call button). Anybody had anything similar?

  11. What is considered “a long time” for the car to be unused. Several years ago my IS Battery went flat in 6 weeks while on holiday and I had to call out the breakdown service. There was on IS’s a question about the Battery at the time so never knew if it was a fault or just the time.
I have a trickle charger on my Ducati so I will conect it to my Lexus for a few hours today.
I had my 1st service done the week before the lockdown. Owners of all makes of cars are going to be over the service intervals until this crazy time ends. When dealers reopen their service departments will be very busy.

    you are joking surely !

I was in Halfords yesterday ( yes Halfords for 2 tyres for my Honda Legend  .  speechless I had to use them tbh  ) and I saw specialist 5/30 oils on the rack at what looked like £18 a ltr

    Malc

Wish I was joking £79.50 + VAT at 20% (actually £95.40, got it wrong)

  13. Twice in the last 7 days I have had a brake warning light come up. In the info panel to the left of the Economy/speed dial. What ever is showing goes away and a red rectangle box, approximately 3cms x 1.5cms, appears with BRAKE in red in the box. A warning signal sounds and after about 2 seconds goes back to the info display. I told the dealer last week after the first time and they said it was the forward facing sensor which I found strange as there was nobody near me, I was not convinced. Anyway it happened again today on a clear road to the front and sides and I was not braking.

There is nothing in the handbook and after searching online the only thing it I can find is just the red word BRAKE mentioned but not in a box on a USA model.

it does say I should not drive the car, call recovery and get it taken to the dealer.

    Anybody had similar?

Just got off the phone to a dealer and they assure me it’s the forward facing sensor (Lexus badge) he said it may need calibrating.

  14. I apologise for any offence caused, just trying to put some humour into the site. As I only achieved English level 3 GCSE 54 years ago I am out of my depth in understanding or replying to your comments. Logging out now. Goodbye all.

Yes, obviously it does as well. But only after and exactly per the earlier same method description.

Precisely as in post #2. Where safe hands-free operation is exhaustively explained!

But is there yet another even more interesting question set under the surface of it?

That video demonstrates and illustrates the what while eliding the how entirely!

The actual details of the entire solution are far more complex than post #5.

As is now more widely well known...

Initial failure to consistently operate the tailgate handsfree was sufficiently annoying to motivate very briefly thinking it through from first principles. Having discounted any vehicle fault on the basis that all the dealerships UX's were behaving similarly and having dismissed any serious notion of Lexus's sheer incompetence. It was quite pleasing to get such a repeatable result by following only one

    <... simple instruction ...>.

Regardless of the actual control loop functions or how they are implemeted. ⚠️

    Proof is the bottom line.

Who is this Anybody anyway and how did they get anyone else's foot? 🤣

Did we all miss the part where an unclear statement of uncertainty constitutes any form of an actual question? 😧

Perhaps as none was asked, nor was any answered? What's written here on the core of this subject, and the only aspect of it which matters, in fact, is its veracity. All else is of no consequence to anybody's anyone anyway and never mind who's foot they're using! 🙃

Perhaps that's a little bit like a joke; which, even in shared repetition, somehow still lacks the essential point of humour? Maybe it just needs a bit more personal insult on the side or a sharper offensive edge on the bounce back?

With the keenest of regards to any respect owed to such commentary. Both compliments and commiserations are quite possibly well overdue. Partly for the somewhat arbitrary and clearly confusing meanings in the limited scope and scale of their content. But largely for the tediously all too normal nature of these tiny but plainly ill formed and outstandingly poorly written little posts.

    However, trust entirely upon this:-

Life really is far too short for any snide judgemental nonsense from a forum with postings of this calibre. Particularly when they're fancifully dressed up as casually brutal, innocuously offensive, smoothly uncaring and opaquely disrespectful attempts towards passing off insult as humour at someone else's expense. That truly is way beyond any decent definition of a joke. But such small stuff; as we each know, any said minded individual can copiously produce.

In all fair conscience and on balance, please do feel completely free to keep this last post here on this thread! If such a peculiarly twisted little mess of questionable motivation is the best this place has to offer? Who could possibly care less?

To those who have been kind and considerate. Thank you and good luck in all of your life's endeavours.

Seems some Lexus folk may well not be meant to suffer gladly.

Think it'll be a Tesla next...
