  1. Hi Ian, Thank you for your reply. I didn't need to do this as strangely I got it sorted first thing this morning. I now think I know what the sequence of events caused it & sorted it. I put the door handles back in & reconnected the battery, but whilst I was putting the passenger side handle in, I unlocked it with the key before even connecting the battery. Then when the battery was connected all I had to do was press the unlock button on the key & it reset. I have worked out that if you press & hold the lock button on the key the alarm will arm & eventually beep. But, if you press the lock button twice, it seems to put the system into a state that only a manual turn off the key in the passengers side will allow the remote to work again. A lesson learnt no doubt. Cheers, Erwin.
  2. Hi there, I'm have had a search on the forums before I posted, but that doesn't mean I'm not missing the info. I was working at the car & removed the door handles. Then when I was finished I locked the car with the key & I think I pressed a button twice, I really am not sure. I tried something, opening a door or pushing the door lock rods(door handles are still off) & the alarm went off. I tried to turn it off with the key, but it wouldn't work. I opened the windows with the locking rod & put the key in the ignition to start the car, thinking that this would reset the alarm, but no joy. The only way I could get the alarm to turn off was to disconnect the battery negative, but every time I reconnect it the alarm goes off. Does anyone on here know of this happening/how to fix it?? I would really appreciate any help as the car has to be moved soon. Cheers.

  4. Interesting Indeed Dave. Like i said, mind is an 01 430 Sport with 70k on it & I would value it around the £4000 mark, maybe even higher but that's maybe letting my heart rule head a bit there, lol. I think some of the cheap prices about are doing the cars a disservice if I'm being honest in my opinion.
  5. I have to say, I agree & disagree on the £4800 price tag. I think for the mileage it's too expensive but if you were to get one with 50-60k on it then I think it would be well worth it. When you look at a 540 BMW or E Class Merc the same year with a similar engine, a decent car is advertised anywhere from £2k - £7k. This is the market these cars are aimed at & I would far rather have a Lexus. I can't really say too much as I got mine with 69k & service history for less than a £1k, but I think it's fair to say that was an exceptionally cheap car.
  6. lol... despite the name, it is referring literally to the car rolling over, not slight undulations in the road at speed. In those conditions the arb is either doing absolutely nothing, or twisting ever so slightly (but nowhere near enough to induce instability). It is there for cornering purposes, i.e. to stop the car rolling over. Yeah, I agree. That is what I meant really. Whilst driving in a straight line or bumpy road conditions the ARB, as you say, does absolutely nothing. In bumpy conditions it is the suspension that should be working. The ARB is simply to limit roll whilst cornering & to try to keep the car as level as possible. I know before I replaced mine, when on a straight road, fine no problems, but when you threw her into a corner at highish speed, she did feel very unstable, but mine were hanging in her & completely rubbish. I think you even commented on it in one of my posts.
  7. Evening. Has anyone ever removed the chrome trims around the windows before? I had a quick look the other day & I could see one pop rivet in around the back doors. Any help would be appreciated as I would like to remove them this weekend. Cheers.
  8. Can't comment on the brakes but I do know that new anti roll bar bushes cost me £70 odd from Lexus for front & rear, so not expensive at all. IMO it should cut a bit of the unstableness as the roll bar will not be working to its best potential if they are worn. I assume some of what you feel at speed is a twitchy kind of roll type thing? The bushes will help limit that roll, hence the name Anti Roll Bar Bushes, lol, but I'm not saying it is the only problem. I would agree with rick, maybe shocks as well. My car felt the same as you are describing, but I replaced the bushes & put coilovers in at the same time so I can't say if it was just the bushes. Car drives amazing now.
  9. Was it a black one? The time I bought mine there was a black one on for £4800 with that mileage. Hard for me to gauge as I got mine very cheap. As Rick says, absolutely super car. I love mine to bits.
  10. Hi all, I am looking for a set of coilovers for my 01 GS430 Sport. Can buy a new set for not too bad money but interested to see if there is anything second hand out there before I spend. Cheers, Erwin.

  12. Love this lip spoiler!! Where do you get this? I have the sport spoiler as std, but looking into trying to do something different as such. Good work by the way.
  13. "Differently"?Handling on the GS430 whether SE or Sport should be fairly good and assured providing you don't try to throw it around like a sports car. It might be prudent for you to get it properly checked out front to back/top to bottom! Mine handles superbly and is an SE Nav, 67k FLSH. That's exactly what I would have thought. It's away at the moment getting readied for mot & it will get whatever it needs. I really think the shocks are gone so I think I'll just get coilovers for her now.
  14. Yea funny I thought that might be the case. I had mine out & it appears to be only one plug for the air con, but that seems way to easy. It's the other 6 or 7 plugs that worry me. My mate owns a car audio place & it looks the only option is to see if we can get an iPod/iPhone loom to plug into where the changer in the glovebox plugs into the main unit.
  15. Hi all. Just working through things on my new toy & was driving the car up to my mate to get sorted for mot. I noticed on the way up she handled........differently shall we say. I know that the front bottom arms are rattlly but she seemed somewhat boaty as if the shocks were gone. I'm sure this is not normal, but as it's the first time I have drove the car with exhaust fixed & tyres sorted I was surprised. I assume as it was a sport model it should be quite assured?? Any advice would be most welcome.
  16. I have a facelift SatNav in mine. If you can find out if I can put in a std climate control panel & everything works so I can put an aftermarket system in, I'll sell you mine.
  17. Yes Dave, total & utter owner neglect. Can't believe people would care so little for such a good car. I've got tyres on her now & she's going this weekend to get sorted for mot. VSC lights come on when you start driving her but reading on here that is more than likely speed or abs sensors. Once that's done, wheels aligned & a knock in the front suspension that should be her ready.
  18. Ok, so just got my mates computer to check out the engine light & it turns out the light is on because 'Catalyst Efficiency Level Low' or something very similar, can't remember. So in my mind that means once the exhaust is fixed, which is broken just as it enters the cat, that should be problem solved. Excellent!!
  19. Aye the aerial was broke of & a big still left in it Rick. Saw one of those replacements on eBay but got one from a breakers this afternoon. It's all getting better & better..............so far, lol.
  20. Hi Mike, I got round to cleaning her out yesterday. It was actually mostly rubbish that was threw out & then a good Hoover sorted the most of it. I washed the leather with a sponge & dried it off. I could not believe how well the interior has come up with just that. When I get her MOT'd I'll get a carpet cleaner & remove the seats & do it properly. I just keep getting more & more impressed with how this car is turning out. The outside definitely needs some paint to leave her mint but , it's turning out that I appear to have a real good low mileage base car to leave immaculate. Got a wing mirror the same colour today as well as an aerial ordered from a breakers. Getting the exhaust fixed later this week & hopefully tyres. Getting the lend of my mates computer to diagnose engine light problem. VSC light was on when I was driving her home, but now it has gone out, happy days.
  21. Afternoon all. I was wondering if anyone knew if the Touchscreen SatNav that comes in the MK2 GS was replaceable? I know some of the climate controls work through the screen, but is it possible that you could use the climate controls from a non SatNav car & simply put an aftermarket stereo in? Many thanks in the meantime.
  22. Hi there. I finally got my hands on my first Lexus. An 01 GS430 Sport. I bought it over the net with only a relation going to see it & depending on the dealer being honest. He was! So here's the good & bad points of here so far. Good. Interior is completely stinking but once cleaned will actually be immaculate. Every single button, switch light etc works. 69k miles. FSH. All MOT's to back up miles. Full Lexus Carpet Mats. Sat Nav. Black leather with Grey piping. L55XVS number plate came on it. After jump start last night, drove from Henley in Arden to Carinryan boat & then another 50 miles home faultlessly. Returned average 31mpg - see speeds below. Massively impressed. Bad points. Needs an aerial Passenger side wing mirror glass Wheels aligned & balanced Exhaust broke clean just before Cat( a tad noisy at times, but seemed quietest between 80 & 90mph) Needs MOT'd & taxed. Probably will need 4 tyres but might get away with 2 at the moment. Passneger has been scraped. Needs a damn good buffing & polish. To leave her mint, I think I would like to get bonnet, bumpers & two sides painted to get rid of all the silly scrapes & scratches she has. Apparently a mother was driving it & didn't card at all about it, which would add if you seen the state of the interior. In short she's needs a good dose of TLC & intend to do that to leave her mint with maybe a set of coil overs & a set of 19's or 20's on her with maybe an aftermarket front lip & rear spoiler. Love to hear your thoughts. All in all having only got her last night, I'm massively impressed, because it paid less than £1000 for her!!
  23. Thanks. That's what was confusing me Ian. Everywhere I looked on the internet there were ones for sale or breaking. Finally got my hands on mine last night & your right Rick, the V5 says the same as yours. I'm going to do a post on the state of her & would be interested in any views or comments. Especially as you have one. Cheers.
  24. Evening. I have just bought a 2001 GS430 Sport. I haven't picked the car up yet & rang my insurance company to put it on my policy for driving home tomorrow night. When I said to them it was 2001 they said they only had the 430 Sport from 2003 on. Has anyone came across this or is it just my company? Can someone confirm that they were made in 2001? And finally, does anyone know the exhaust diameter in the middle of the car? I am assuming this would be one large pipe that then splits into two for the rear silencers? Sorry for all the questions, but thanks in advance.
