  1. Hahaha I did the same: Couldn't found in Lexus manual either wich was very weird I have to admit even though the button its there, really !! ..so like you bobbyc, I assume, judging by the sign on the button wich reveal a wiper with electric wire that it is a wiper heater for defrosting the bottom of the windscreen so it'll alow the frozen stuck wipers to engage. Yes, I thought I'm the only one with this little issue! Anyway, never used so far as my parking lot its underground so never need it,... so far!

  2. This is a very interesting thread and it is very relevant to a question I had.

I have recently noticed that to the right of my steering wheel down at the bottom there is a button on my IS250 SE which looks like a windscreen with a heater symbol on it. I have checked the manual and handbook and have not been able to confirm what this button is.

I had also assumed it was a heated windscreen button, however a Lexus dealer previously told me that Ford had the patent on headed windscreens and that Lexus could not copy this until next year.

Therefore is this a windscreen wiper demiser button or something else altogther.

Ps Every day is a school day with my IS250 at the moment

  3. Check the thermostat too , take it out and drop it in boiling water to see if it opens , I had this noise on a car years ago , faulty stat which cause the head gasket to blow .

Wow hope it won't get there! No, you see if the thermostat it won't open then the water won't reach 90° as shown on dashboard! !! I know that for sure; had previous 520i and didnt heat up but u could see straight forward on dashboard the water gauge was cold so that lead directly to thermostat being blocked open, in this case. I belueve that there's a leak at one of joints as some spkash signs at the very bottom engine room shows but I thought there were old ones. I'll have a friend mechanic look at it on weekend: I'll keep you posted.

  4. Ok Normski2 I see you got irritated but thats just too much optimistic mpg what you get and in fact, you are the only one, so far, in this forum with this type of car/year/mileage, with this kind of mpg, sorry! I didn't mean to upset you but other readers my get wrong ideea or picture to say so, about this model 220d. And 50+ means what, to you? 50.1-55.7-57.9 ?? Whatever, its a balloon figure anyway for most of us I'll say. Good luck with you car.

  5. I'm certainly not advocating no use of the A/C. I was referring to 'unnecessary' use of A/C, and opening the windows a 'tad'. Some folk I have noticed, just put it on all the time without thought. This is just plain daft in the UK. If its sweltering or cold, damp and steamy, then fine put it on, I would.

You are right about keeping up revs between gear changes to avoid that 'clunk of notchiness', also try pushing the clutch pedal down just a wee bit more forceful. Not a lot. You dont need to try and shove your foot thru the front bumper!! Every car/4x4 type I have driven with the DMF responds better by doing this. Now I've got the hang of it I get no notchiness at all now.

Thats a loafs of crap m8: 54-57 mpg ?? Where?? Down the hill only drive?? Hahahaha what a noob, stop selling porchy pies on this forum please! You should kbow that somethings very wrong with ur car mate and soon enough big problems will arise if u really get that mpg!! @ lexus very optimistic unreal book not reach this mpg...imao 54-57 big laugh

Maybe I'm just lucky with the set up on my car, but I get 54-57 at 73mph in 5th using cruise control on the motorway.

I don't wish to get too bogged down with the fuel consumption. Yes it is a factor, yes fuel is expensive, I really like the car first and foremost and am genuinely very pleased with it on all fronts. The mpg I am getting is a nice bit of icing on the cake for me. My only gripe that I've found with driving over a period of time is the size of the front and rear pillars. The front one can easily hide a bicycle. But I am aware of it all times being a cyclist myself.

  6. Just to say 50mpg is possible! From Norfolk to South Yorkshire (A17 and M1) I averaged 50.4 mpg! I don't know how as I have only been able to just get 47 now, still not bad I suppose. Car has done 98,000 too!

It depends a lot on whether for example if you do motorway with wind behind you, well it'll be seen huge difference in mpg ( up to 5-7mpg Xtra then usually ) or if you'll do against wind again it'll be a good dropping mpg !! Its not all down to driving style. .!!

  7. Ok, new updates: yesterday drove motorway mileage, 200 to be more precise, after I used Miller additive and at the end of the journey I've got a staggering 43.6mpg !! I even wanted to take a pick of it. Can't even imagine what Archoil mite do if I can get my hands on it. . .so looks like it is possible to get close mpg to what other people posted in this thread. I'm just over the moon.

  8. New EGR valve last month even though the old one was still in good nick/ came along with the car when bought it in November last. Used Dipetane for each diesel fill up; yesterday was in Newry NI and hoped ill fing Archoil products but fssss unlikely its ROI or NI still not UK looks like:-d but I did found Miller so ill go with that for the moment...hopefully my mpg will raise a bit though my driving style (afterreading some treads) its a bit spirty I could say but Hello, if wanted drive like a old pap I was to buy Fiat500 and not Lexus 2.2l right?

Yeah, I live in Dublin by the way. . .

  9. Greate chit - chat guys, thats what is this forum about! I was reading top-bottom and end up with a smile on me face. I wish to add my little knowledge about cars down below here and say that one thing I agree with is, Don't put ur foot down while the temperature of the engine its Not optimal as in any other cars books !!! You looking for performance then you should know that !! Only a butcher buy a Lexus and at a push of a button revs high !! ..or any other car: its not a horse.., Hello ! but that juat me and I'm not even mechanic or close but I hear about those high revs cold engines before and they All end up in big engine trouble, thats all I can share here. :-D

  10. Hi Woody86, any new information about that gurgle noise? How did you fix it? What was the problem, it was costly ? Please let me know as I have same problem on my 08 is220d with 84k. ..plus I get passenger side of the car cooling insted heating also!! Checked level its ok and pinky, no bad smell either. Appreciated.

  11. Hi Steve Thanks for your reply,

So is your car okay then or did you do any work to it...I know exhaust is very expensive on the Lexus.[/

Hi Ishaq, its quiet simple: smoke means condens during winter times if not thick of course but, as long as all fluids checked and none of them drops level then its 100% just condensation. U see I drive 220d is and sometimes I get this white cloud kind of smoke when I sitt at the traffic lights. ..!!! That could be dpf or egr throwing out "excrement" so to speak but none to worry as long as its not tick and or coloured. Thats what I think anyway.

  12. About the door lock flashing...if it flash 5times when u grab the handle that means its settings again but this time..I dunno...from my experience with own car, it opens only driving door wich I've being told that to change this to all doors unlock option its dealer job 100% wich means £££ !!! A safety option you can choose when u buy the car from dealer of course and it'll cist to change it, later.

  13. Hi Lecutus I have a 2008 is220d and had same problem: its nothing to worry about, its the settings, and you need to go to each door and roll all the way down then all up the window and after try from main driver door console-that should sort out! then repeat for the other doors. It'll flash wich means settings changed. Let me know how did it go..

  14. Hey I know there have been many other threads about the same subject but I haven't managed to find one with the exact same problem.

Basically my problem is that I unlocked the car and rolled down the windows with the key everything went fine and all worked, once reaching a faster road I closed all the windows which also worked fine. The problem is when I got to a slow bit of traffic I tried to roll the windows back down and nothing only the offside front window works, when I got home I tried them again with the lock windows button in every position and still nothing.

The next day when I got in to go to work the car unlocked but then when I opened the door all the locks started to go crazy trying to unlock themselves then just stops and still no windows, I haven't had the battery disconnected and the fuse seems fine so Im now stumped!

P.S I called up my local Lexus and they wanted £130 just to look at it which I simply do not have, =[

    Thanks J . W

  15. Same about Start-Stop button !!! I really like the ideea of it but not 100% practical again:

The other day my car stoped in the middle of a T junction / my fault here, didn't rev high enough and engine being cold just coughed / but guess what I occur? Took me 5-7 seconds to restart and move of the way while cars were heading towards me and I was completely helpless in there... hmmm bit scary I No way you could do it quicker then with traditional keys!!!!! I can really tell you this @ realised how keys are so important ! Any other storyline about this?

  16. Look guys was just a ideea came through my funny mind :-d but really, I thought that the car will go in limp mode and eventually stop not far from that point! Dessapointed by the answers to be honest !! This means, if you out for a picnic lets say and you do your usual things like fishing or barbecue on a sunny weekend day and someone jump in to your car and start and drives away...well you really would look like a f... muppet innit? WoW not so bright , Toyota !! And to add a cherry to the top of the cake, as everyone else complaints about the once flash light when locking the car/no audible signs either/ it could be really annoying as nit sure that your car is locked! Hence the folding mirrors option needs to be pressing the button....Everything else I just love it :-) if I make more money in near future I'll buy myself the new 300 @@@ no problems in there :-D

  17. Hi guys, yeah looks like all the signs lead to coolant liquid but checked just today and all good and pinky;I believe its alright to be on minimum level sign level when cold :-? as when rich high temp its get to max level sign ..? Hope I'm right anyway, its strange again as half of the car heating while the other half cooling, I mean really cold air/ its winter I know/ so don't really know, maybe its time to dig deep in to my pockets and go to Lexus dealer :-$

  18. Hi guys I experience some gurgling noise at start up but only when the engine its cold and can be hear alright when I rev over 1200-1400revs and above; its like whater licks and to top up eith a problem, wich I believe its related to each other, passenger side of the car doesn't heat at all :-# v. strange. Its heating only driver side of the car!! Any ideas.

    Much appreciated.
