  1. Morning Im new to the lexus is200 (2002) and hope the members on the forum can offer somee advice. Due to the car being old and actually in very good condition, I ant to carry out some servicing. So the following is what I think needs to be done: Engine oil and filter gearbox oil diff oil coolant brake and clutch fluid Probably good idea to strip brakes and re-grease For now this is all I can think maintenance wise. The only other thing I wanted to enquire on was swapping springs on the car as it is an SE spec. I believe the struts are the same on both variants so its just a direct swap. However I wanted to know about spacers. I would like to put a set on the the rears but ones that are officially for lexus. Any help will really be appreciated Thanks
  2. Once again thank you for all the reviews and advice. I'm keeping options open on car choice, I can agree though, the older gs300 (2002) has ALOT more space when it comes to working in the engine bay than the bmw 3 series. Not a like for like comparison - I know.
  3. Thank you very much for the response so far. The gs450h is a very tempting choice, albeit I absolutely do not require the extra bhp it delivers. However I think the 450H generally has better kit. Having said that, what model should I be aiming for? Also how hard is it to work on this car? I have good experience working on a BMW e46. I have done many complex jobs on this car. I'm handy with tools but no expert.
  4. Hi, looking to buy a gs series around 2008 or later and would like some opinions from the forum users on which one I should look to buy and problems to look out for. This thread is starting pretty basic but I will happily provide more info when required. Thanks.
  5. Thanks for the info. Am I right in thinking that the gearbox and diff oil is not to be changed? I don't really believe in fill for life fluids. I have an e46 as well that gets a fluid change every 30000 miles or so.
  6. Can anyone please help with the service schedule on this car? I would also like to know what extra maintenance should be carried out on this car in terms of diff oil and gearbox oil which I believe is a fill for life unit?
  7. If it does, the solution appears to be the ecu abs transistor leaking. This seems to be a very common problem but before jumping to this conclusion, you should attempt to rule out abs rings and other possibilities. I just had mine done and it turned out to be the ecu.
  8. Wheel alignment did not Cure sh8T! At this moment I'm in the process of having a new yaw sensor and ECU pins inspected. Apparently the ECU pins can corrode which can lead to false or inaccurate signals
  9. I seem to have the same braking issue as many others on this forum. In essence, when I'm coming to a halt at very low speeds, the traction control and abs activate. The same happens when taking of at low speeds, where I will hear buzzing, the brake pedal will slightly dip, the traction control will come on and then eventually after all that drama the car will move off. This problem will totally disappear if the VSC is switched off. The problem is though more noticeable if I'm taking a right turn from stationary. The problem seems to be the same as what other members are experiencing. However I took the car to lexus and they said (in a very rude and unprofessional manner) it's the ECU at fault as it is not seeing sensors between 1 - 4 mph, Took the car to a very good specialist who did carry out extensive diagnostics and stated otherwise. He showed me proof on a diagnostic scanner that the ecu was seeing the sensor between 1 - 4 mph. He also showed me results of the sensor on a graph between 1 - 4 mph. The graph line was 'jagged', which indicated that the abs/vsc was kicking in. He proceeded to clean both front vsc sensors and lo and behold, the braking abs issue disappeared! However the problem at take off still remains. The mechanic did confess that further diagnostics is needed but couldn't get round to it. I trust the mechanic and he is an honest man without a shadow of doubt. So, please guys help and share any details of revelations regarding this issue that I experience. As a side note, taking the car to get a 4 wheel alignment as the alignment is bang out. I will be chuffed if that fixes the problem.
  10. Hi, sorry for not responding, been really busy. this car is really good. Took it on a long drive and really, what a car. Its not as involving to drive as a BMW, but definitely a car that doesn't disappoint. Anyway, I have ordered a cd of ebay that will direct me in servicing. I do however require car mats for this car, where can I buy genuine carpet mats? Dealer wants £120 odd quid for them?
  11. I have just become the owner of an immaculate gs300 2002 plate. The car is truly a great car thats well in the league of BMW and Mercedes. The car has done 60k and I wanted to fully service the car. I have been looking around on the net and cannot find a service schedule. Can someone please help me out? Also I wanted to know if any maintenance is required with the auto box? Lastly I would like to be recommended a service (diy) manual for this car. Haynes dont seem to do one. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
