If anybody is interested, the valves are hydraulic , that's why they are so quiet, just make sure you use descent oil in the engine and change it regularly ....

Hi tony, no worries , what car is it ? How old is it ?It's listening to that prat clarkson makes us ignorant of what the technology can offer these days , not many cars can reach that many miles with no probs, glad you love it so much cos' that's what a good reliable car deserves....

Some of us are so bored !!!!!!!!! But surely this all still applies today for any new members that might be thinking of buying a car and as you say it would have been nice to know the outcome....perhaps he bought a Beemer !
-
Fair comment, I always thought the battery's needed replacing after 5 years or so at a horrendous price ,is this not so ? Perhaps I and a few other owners need educating on these hybrid vehicles, sounds like they are not so bad eh! You put me in my place anyway......

My advice for what it's worth is walk away and get your grand back look for another car , from what I've read on this forum the 220d is not that reliable anyway, get yourself a 250 with proper history... There are plenty about , I know it's grief to keep looking but it will be worth it in the long run, I looked at quite a few before settling on the one I got. I'm wondering how reliable lexus history is anyway given some horror stories on this forum !!!!!!!! Take your time and get the car you want .

Why would you buy one anyway ???

Hi bobby, I drive a truck all day mainly in the south of the uk and yes I have noticed a increase in the number of lexus driving around, people must have sussed out what a lovely car they are ! Hope it doesn't get as common as the BMW and Audi oh and the mercs, I think maybe Toyota would be quite pleased though !!!!!!

Got mine for nothing on a porche 924 I bought 21 years ago, the plate is now worth approx £900. I sold the car for £250 !!! Mind you it's cost me about £ 360 In transfer fees over the years. Still a good investment I think.

I've been waiting a week now and not heard anything from dvla, of course I could have put my plate on retention but that would mean paying an extra £25.00 .....sending my log book off twice ! I know I drive a lexus but it does not mean I'm made of money !!! Plus I'm a tight arse ,lol ,

nothing wrong with private plates, just the hassle of transfer when you change your car, used to be easy when the DVLA had local offices now they have closed them all everything goes to Swansea and that takes time....... I used to go to Boreham wood office they did it while I waited about 10 mins, now it takes anything up to a month !!! its what they call progress I believe, that means you cant get rid of you old car till the transfer is complete ,

Does anybody know if the valves on the v6 2.5 are hydraulic, shims, or nut and bolt ???? when I had my car serviced ,part of the service was to check the valve clearances , when I read the after service report it said the clearance was checked using a stethoscope !!! this must mean valves are hydraulic ,yes or no, I'm curious,

hi tynhead, welcome to lexus, the is200 is a brilliant car, I had mine for just over 8 years and I loved driving it, very reliable car not to expensive to run .... look after your car and it will look after you ! one thing I would add is you might have to get some winter tyres or a set of snow chains cos my is 200 was really crap in the snow. enjoy,

I think you will find 245 is the width , 45 is the height in percentage , 17 is the wheel size , correct me if I'm wrong,.....Allan
-
great news on the mot, perhaps you can start enjoying your motor a bit more now, Allan
-
Hi noo bie, the wheel had just been fitted wrong, easy enough if your a lousy mechanic !! I had a quick look at the calipers...new pads all round..BUT looks like one of the rear discs looks knackered, so new pads and discs on the rear at least , hopefully the calipers will be ok, I'm too frightened to check the exhaust after you mentioned the price lol.......thanks for your Helpfull input , how did your MOT go? Good news I hope,

Noo bie
Good advice given yet again, I got my car now and the first thing I checked were the wheels cos they have been refurbed, sure enough as you said one of the rears has been put on the front ! Thanks again, Allan
-
noo bie
thanks for the advice, bit late though, cos i bought my car this afternoon !!! I'll have to keep my fingers crossed eh ! the car drives great, i'll have to have a real good look at it this weekend, hopefully all will be ok, got a fresh mot so looking good..... I drove my old is200 up to my son inlaws ( he's having it for what the dealer offered £600. ) I'm hoping the 250 is going to be as good, i'm missing it already !!!!

Hi whistler , the one I'm going for has 84000 mls full history in mica red just to be different , I think 100 k is ok if the car is in good condition and been serviced properly, low miles is not always good, acids in the engine when a car does not get up to temperature can cause damage ie school runs of less than 5 mls is not very good, at least with high ish miles you know the car has been used for motorway work (you could not get very high miles any other roads ! ) my is200 has 96000 mls and runs sweet as a nut , uses not a drop of oil between services, different engine I know but serviced regularly modern engines can achieve big miles, good luck in your quest for a 250 , keep us posted,
allan

Hi noo bie ,sorry to hear of all your troubles.....just unlucky I guess ,I'm surprised if you got full lex history with the car that it's been badly maintained , was it it with one dealer or more ? At least you seem to know what your doing so once it's sorted you should have a nice car, I take it the engine and gearbox have been ok ? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your mot Friday and hoping my 250 I'm picking up tomorrow is going to be as good as my is 200 has been over my 8 year ownership, all the best, Allan
-
connoor , congrats on your new lexi you are gonna love it, just service it regulary and it will pay you back 10 fold, just hope my is250 is going to be as great as my 200, enjoy,
