popped the Battery back in after a quick charge and seems to be ok . Car feeds 14v to it, and when ignition is off, it seems to be holding around 12.3, suggesting it is a bit old.
I couldn't see any internal lights left on, so assume it must be an ageing Battery and a week of no driving pushed it over the edge.
My wife did say she's noticed the engine always fires when she first starts is ... where a couple of years ago it was always silent until we pulled away.... that might be the telling sign of an old Battery.. just a shame it doesnt throw a warning message to replace before it lets you down.

-
one further question... once I have the Battery charged enough ... is there any special procedures I need to do once re-connected?
-
found the boot release lever... my wife was flexible enough to get in there from the back seats.... the Battery was down to 6v, so taken it out to charge on my bench
We drove the car a week ago, so this is a bit shocking it's lost so much charge in that short time 😞 .... I'll get it charged, but given it lost charge so quick, and the car is 4yr old, I'll order a new one just as piece of mind.

We found our 2016 Rx was dead today, not enough juice to light up the dashboard, assume the 12v is dead... no warning (grrrr)
Trouble is, we cannot open the boot, to check the batter.... is there any way to open the boot from inside?
Also, is there any 12v charging points in the engine bay, so I can try to trickle some charge into it?

are either of the 12v or switched_12v feeds alive when you probe the fuseboards?
what reading do you get from the Battery, or perm 12v feeds with ignition off and on ?
all i can think is to trace back from dashboard fuseboard back to the Battery, so see where you loose the 12v to chassis... really sounds like a broken earth (unlikely), blown fuse (also unlikely) or dead Battery (more likely) .. but if you have had a few people look it over, I am sure they should have done the same

I tend to find it is cheaper to get direct from Lexus (either lexus part direct, or some dealers have an eBay presence) ... I've always found Euro car parts to be more expensive and last time they sent the wrong type for my IS200d, a real pain to get them swapped out...

It takes the same 'power' to crank the engine.... as Power = Amps x Voltage ... because the traction Battery is high voltage, the current drawn is much lower

it does make sense, if 12v Battery is low, the engine will fire up to charge that, even if it isn't needed for anything else.
My worry is I've heard a few people say about this and the lack of notice you get of pending failure. With a traditional car you get signs of Battery decay when it doesn't start as well.. but with these you have no clue until it doesn't fire the computer.. needs a warning message ahead of the problem!

yes, likely the dealer will go for shorter route, replacing the assembly, but a local garage might swap the rubber bits... as it is just suspension, nothing high tech .... I'd expect a local garage to do a good job on this, for a reasonable price... a quote won't hurt and someone else working on this wouldn't impact any warranty, providing they are a professional garage, using genuine bits

yes, I found that by surprise also, after I left the keys still in my golf bag ..... luckily I could get the keys ... the next week my playing partner did the same with his Pergeot ... had to call his father in law to drive 2hrs with a spare set!
when I got home I put the spare set in the house, then tried a few experiments, to see if I could lock the keys in the car. (boot, or falling out of my pocket by the seat.. I cannot.. really nice feature ... a life safer as I work away from home a lot., wold be stuffed it I locked myself out!

I'd expect the bushes to be pretty cheap ... so mostly labour charges, which themselves seem a bit steep! Is it worth checking with a local garage, this is a pretty usual thing to do on cars of a certain age, as the rubber perishes.

we had a similar noise in our 2016 Rx450h .... it turned out to the cooling fan on the multimedia box (nothing to do with car ventilation) .
Luckily wasn't long after we got it, so they fixed it under warranty .. they replaced the whole unit, so dread to think of the cost if we had to pay!
-
yes, tried that and a few other combinations, but no joy... just remains grey'd out

I'm sure if you agreed a deal for the car, but refused to pay that they would waive it...get them on the ropes first (but make it the last piece of the negotiation, after any extras you want first)..

I've had some issues (radiator leak, suspension, brakes) over the years, which would be the same for the petrol variant..... but no problems from the engine at all so far (~80k)... I find it pulls well, quiet and comfortable.. no regrets from me.
I'm looking at changing to the new ES .. but every time I get out of the ES test drives) and back into my IS200d, I remember how much I love the more responsive engine, rear wheel drive ... struggling to justify spending money on something that doesn't drive as well as my IS.

I've read there is a diagnostic mode we can enable on the main screen, which can allow tuning of the camera direction, rotation distance etc (doesn't need Techstream).... however, the instructions I have seen appear to be from the later model (perhaps Aussie or US spec). It involved turning on the ignition, then holding down the 'MENU' button (AV system), then turning on and off the lights 3 times... but the pictures look more like the mk4 version
Does anyone have the instructions to enable diagnostic mode on the mk3 version (upto 2015) ?

Perfect, thanks Herbie

it's one the last few series 3.model.
On my previous cars (including my IS) the fuse board lid only gives location of fuses (numbers), it doesn't say use or rating ... as that is usually a country variant, hence printed in the book
-
I've not had chance to check yet, but usually they just give the location numbers, very generic plastic moulding... but don't detail the use or rating (the bit I need)
Usually the user manual has the detail of fuses for the model in that country, but not in user manual we have!
-
we've noticed the rear camera is out of alignment.... shifted left. If you park in an empty car park, using the guide lines against the white lines on the floor, we find we are 6 inches to the right!
Is it possible to re-calibrate them ?.. or is it just the physical angle of the camera?
(note the tailgate was replaced a while ago, following an accident.. chances are it was wrong from then, but only just noticed! )

I'm preparing to fit a dashcam to my wife's 2015 Rx450h ...... but I notice the user manual does not have a fuse board layout, just tells you where it is!
Does anyone have the layout and ratings for the near side (under dash) fuse panel ?

could the raid external cooling of the engine cause a clearance problem.. resulting in quick wear?
Acceptable Alternative 12v Battery?

+1 for a group buy if the option is quick ... our 2015 Rx450h is no longer holding charge... got enough into it yesterday to allow the car to start... the car was feeding 14v into it once alive, but overnight it's dropped from 12.3 (when stopped) to 11.8 this morning... I'll 'energise' the car daily just to avoid having it totally die again.
Really appreciate your research Barry.... I had a quote from Lexus for £195 for a new one, and found a store selling a genuine one in Japan for £168 .. but have to arrange own shipping.
I see one of your suggestions (Hankook SA55020) is about £85 ... but agree, concern over the venting plus slightly lower capacity.
