  1. My problem isn't unlocking all four doors when I get in, its when passengers want to get out, and they can't!

Instead of their doors simply opening automatically for them to get out, I have to press the central locking button to release the lock on their doors, unless they know to pull back the lock by the handle.

Is this something I can change myself, or is it a dealer only job?

My exhaust went 2 years ago at around 80k I think (7 years old) - the centre after the exhaust join (before the middle box) split and dropped. Could not be welded.

I managed to patch it up and continued using it - its a daily commute so I needed it on the road to get back and forward to work. Lexus quoted me 2700 £ for the centre and boxes plus a 4 week wait for the part......I had no choice but to look around locally - found a company that done the stainless exhausts and they had it for 2 days so they could copy the original exhaust (routing etc)

I think its a time bomb waiting to happen when owners of the older IS's realise the cost of an OEM exhaust - their only option in replacing it will be with a new stainless one - unless they want to fork out for the OEM one. Getting the choice of exhaust right (quiet) could be a costly one

Given the astronomical price Lexus want and the apparent demand, I'm surprised that nobody is making bespoke exhausts in mild steel as well as stainless - or am I missing something

  3. I thought about adding an aftermarket sat nav from China, but realised it wasn't worth the effort and chance of it failing, so just use waze on my phone. I had an is300h for the day while mine was in for a service, and found the built in sat nav so fiddly and oversensitive, I was glad to get back to my user friendly waze. Dash mounted using one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Holder-Magnetic-Cradle-holder-Iphone-Samsung-smartphone/dp/B0177QEIL6?ie=UTF8&refRID=K8DN1DBX9G0MXH202JMF&ref_=pd_bia_yo_t_1, which pushed into centre vent, puts the phone in an ideal position

Oh I know a test drive will be nice , but if I'm going to dealer they will have just new cars ( and I will be to sick if I will drive a new lexus ) , I star to look on the roads lexus maybe I can stop someone and have a chat, but nothing , I can't see to many in this city. Anyone close to Hereford ? I have 2-3 weeks to decide ( Monday I'm going in holiday ) . I don't know if it is nice to say I like shape of 520, insignia, a6, but lexus is the only one with good toys on it . And I like a car with good factory sound system . Still I want to know some real fuel consumptions from some owners of 220/250 thanks.

If you can sacrifice the leather and some toys, while still getting a decent blue tooth sound system, you could pay a bit more and go for high mileage is200d. Mine gives me mid 30's around town (dropping to high 20's on cold mornings) and 50's mpg on motorway runs.

Yeah I must admit I've seen a few is220d's do it. Maybe it's just how the engines are.

May just sell it. Just at the mechanics and he can't find anything wrong with it. It's not even losing coolant. Mistook it for the windscreen wash (I'm new to these cars)

Says to just drive it and deal with it.

Further to what your mechanic says, just enjoy it and don't dwell on it. Its no surprise you're thinking the worst with all the diesel scaremongering about.

As for that lexus extended warranty, lets just say they will simply tell you to f off in their usual surly but very polite way.

Likewise. Its a beautiful car,  fine craftsmanship is evident throughout. Will see how it goes. Life too short and all that.

Yep, life is way to short not to grab a bit of feel good motoring.....presumably at a fraction of that £120k brand new price, making the experience even sweeter! Hopefully build quality proves to be as good as it looks.

  7. Hi Steve, sorry to not see your post sooner, but I have the same set up with cables feeding front and rear cams, so thought you may be interested in my set up.

Firstly, I have a 4 output usb adapter plugged into the central power socket. Then I have 5 metre flat usb leads, which come out of the front of the storage box (with it closed) and drop down under seats, then go off to feed cams front and rear - pushed under door trim etc.

The leads remain plugged into the adapter, until I visit car parks where they get plugged into an external Battery, which powers them for at least 24 hours.

I can add direct links to cables, 4 output adapter and external Battery if you require them.

  8. A little while ago I started this threadhttp://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/104842-silence-is-goldenor-not-as-the-case-may-be/and got a few interesting replies. This week my wife collected her brand new Toyota yaris Sport hybrid and, every time that she pulls off the drive, the car is totally silent. It doesn't matter what the weather is, it is always the same. Still can't get my car to behave in the same way.

Very odd, and it really doesnt inspire confidence when a car from the 'budget' end of the company is quieter than one from the premier end........using Toyota logic, a Prius can only be smoother than a ct200h.

  9. I've been using cameras in both my vehicles for a while now. The car has mobius cams both front and rear permanantly connected to an external Battery pack so always recording. Obviously, they are mainly there to catch out liars and chancers in insurance disputes, but they also help explain newly acquired dents and scratches etc....even if I dont pursue the perpetrators, it provides a sort of peace of mind just knowing who or what did it.

  10. I had a 24 hour test drive in a 2015 ct200h premier and found the road harsh in comparison to my is200d, and very harsh in comparison to my old 2003 camry and the is300h, which I also did a 24 hour test drive on.

The salesmans best advise was to drive slowly over speed humps, which felt like you were climbing over and landing on the other side of - the same humps calmly absorbed in my camry at 35mph.

  11. Due to a small hole in the indicator part of my passenger mirror its not flashing correctly and as a result the car got a mot advisory - so not a major problem, but I'd still like to sort it.

Could someone please advise me how to gain access to this part, or point me in the direction of instructions, as I'm certain I'll break something if I just have a go!

Thanks for any help in advance.
