Unless you can find a breaker it will have to be a new one.

Around £150.00 from Lexus or around £100.00  if you get from Amayama inc shipping and VAT.

Still a lot for a plastic moulding...what happened to the original one?

Thanks for the info. Old one got snapped at the narrowest part, accidental. I’ll look into that Amayama option, emailed a few breakers also asking, but yeah, not hopeful.

I've seen this mod being done, only hesitation I have is that there is mention of a gap on the side the strut is installed. If it will net moisture in who knows?

Don’t see a huge  difference. Drivers side has the new strut, passenger side stock strut. Maybe a tad more gap, but pretty sure the seals are still touching the boot lid ...

My car is covered in snow, and lots will melt soon on the boot lid, so will see if anything gets in! Hope not.

Thanks for the heads up, my struts have been really weak since i bought the car but having just looked at how easy they are to replace i feel a bit ashamed having left it for 5 months! I've ordered the ones in your link, it may be that one of them may not be strong enough with how weak my standard ones seem to be but we shall see. If thats the case ill fit both or perhaps one new one to spec!

I found having both replaced it was a fair push to close the boot, with 1. Changed it felt ok.

now... how do we get it to auto close, some sort of pulley on a motor connected to a switch attached to the boot lid somehow  ... need to think about that one. And then never do it haha

  4. Hey folks, lockdown weekends are a tad boring, so decided to try a wee mod to allow my boot lid to open automatically.

    Works a treat.

Changed ONE of the stock boot lid struts with the below.

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2X-TAILGATE-BOOT-GAS-SPRING-STRUT-FOR-BMW-3-SERIES-E46-TOURING-99-05-51248232873-/183830220075?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

Tried it with both replaced, but makes the boot pretty hard to close, with just one replaced, the opening is smooth and closing is a doddle.

Not sure if this is a known mod but it’s a nice addition, no adverse effects  that I have noticed!

    Video for demo.

If you plan on putting anything other than Toyota WS AFT in your Lexus Auto gearbox then please read this ( from the horses mouth, so to speak) https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-2nd-gen-2006-2013/946184-bad-experience-with-maxlife-full-synthetic-atf.html

Bizarrely though people are still toying with the idea of not using the WS fluid for some strange reason!!!

Thanks for adding this post link, that’s why I highlighted to the original poster that the estimate had an odd / old fluid type listed, and not the WS fluid that is and seems to be the best/only fluid to use.

  6. 1 hour ago, Twellsie said:

Hey, yeah it is ATF fluid, but it’s not the same specification as the WS fluid.

According to the manual it says only to use WS fluid otherwise you’ll experience bad / rough shifting. Just curious as why the estimate is mentioning the wrong fluid?

Unless Dexton III is the same spec as WS or equivalent spec to WS , which I don’t believe it is, then I’m worried that they’re recommending the wrong fluid, and will experience shifting issues and they might then flog a new gearbox, when the real issue is the wrong fluid.

Mentioning it because I has my diff fluid replaced a while back to my 2011 with LSD, and they added the LT fluid instead of the LX fluid, the LT fluid caused a rough/binding feeling on tight turns, as my car is a 2011 with Torsen LSD it called for the LX oil also stated In the manual, 2009 and below calls for the LT fluid as there is no Torsen LSD. I believe the LX fluid has some additional additives etc to stop the rough/binding feeling on tight turns.

Just checking the dealer isn’t putting the wrong fluid added to the gearbox, as it can happen.

    Hopefully all is well though!

  7. Quick update on my situation, dealership was amazing, saw my photo of soot round cylinder 8 flange which gave some indication of a potential crack, however, needed to strip it down to confirm (at my cost of no crack found) l.

I have an extended warranty so if it was indeed cracked all costs would be covered. Upon inspection it was confirmed it was cracked, and proceeded to get warranty involved.

my service advisor was great, they initially declined it due to light corrosion in the joint where it connects to Mid pipe, But that wasn’t where the fault was, so they accepted the crack as the fault (which it was) and Honoured replacement.

managed to get both manifolds Replaced as the Dealership Argued that it one side Has cracked the other may well crack soon, and whilst it’s stripped, would be daft not to do it, so that was accepted.

Few days later, all replaced, and sounding great again on cold starts. Ticking gone!

Can’t thank Shaun at Lexus Edinburgh enough for his negotiations with warranty company.

quick video attached with before and after.

So glad I took the warranty @ 2 years for 1, certainly saved me £3700! Phew 😅

Video below ... Ignore my commentary haha

  8. Been looking for these for a while, all LHD on eBay etc no good for U.K. cars, found a last set from a dealer In Australia selling on eBay! Result 👍🏻

Must be mad, but worth the wait.

Need to get the hoover out and get em in whilst the weathers ok.

If anyone knows where to purchase more, it’s always good to have a fresh set, they’re so hard to come by though.

Mine can also be added to this list now. I heard the ticking noise and asked my mechanic to investigate. He found it when cold. It's very hard to spot when the engine gets up to temperature.

It's currently in with the dealer I purchased it from and waiting to see what they say.

Yeah, once it’s warm it disappears mostly, however still faintly heard when driving under load.

I have managed to snap a pic of the RH manifold and can see black soot round the flange area where it cracks off inside.

At least that’s what it looks like to me, will need to get the technicians to have another look next time I’m booked in.

    what dealership are you at?

I know. It's even in the terms that they will not pay for initial diagnostics. Only if there is an issue it will be covered. Also I can't take to another place other than lexus.

Do keep us posted on your outcome, the more info the better for all of us in the same boat, much appreciated

Well Wednesday is manifolds day 😬......car being dropped off tomorrow and GSF manifolds going on, looking forward to hearing the difference with a kinda open mind.......not looking forward to the bill (ball park £900) as never been done before.

Keep us posted, what dealership? Any chance you could get the dealer to detail how they diagnose such an issue! Might help me out 👍🏻

@malcolmw I just love the tech of these cars such a step up on my isF, alas my Rcf doesn't have climate concierge...... I just send Mrs Rat outside instead to sort the settings prior to each journey.......:whistling1:

    Big Rat

Big rat, did you trade your IS F for the LC? If you did do you miss the F, does the LC feel as special and handle the same or better, or is it more floaty boat feeling? I’m curious but avoiding a test drive at the moment, you know just in case I sign some paperwork haha ... really fancy an LC one day! But scared I’ll miss the IS F, or not be as happy with the suspension feel.

Dang, I’ll have to book a test drive one day.

LC500 V8.......probably difficult to compare against an IS-F, easier to compare with the RC-F.

LC-500 is a lovely car. Feels very special. I'll underline those points. However, for the money, the performance is no better and the drive is very similar. So, I'd argue it's not worth the money. Having said that, some would say that the RC-F (or GS-F) isn't worth the money over the IS-F.

LC-500 does however sound better than any (stock) F car.

Very much looking forward to the LC-F (if it exists). Would love to see it having more low down torque.

I’m glad you said the drive and performance is very similar. I worry it won’t handle as nice as the IS F in that’s it’s got any horrible wallowing feel, or if it’s  just as sharp.

i’m avoiding a test drive haha just in case I really fall in love with it!

That’s not a “like” in a pleased way, but sounds like yours are too, when up to temperature its not noticeable every time, but sometimes it’s sounds very faint, tbh I think I’d be looking at aftermarket manifolds rather than ISF ones, will be having the GSF ones fitted as I got them off a friend for free and it’s £1320 I don’t have to try and find (bloody kids n uni costs).......not sure what the GSF ones cost but I’m led to believe they rectified the issues with these.

Haha yeah, it’s a friendly like as in “same here” totally understand 🙂

Yours might sound worse than mine, if you’ve heard it for 4 years. Mines just started so I’ll see if it starts to get worse.

Do you have a video clip?

  15. Got ya, thanks. I believe this is exactly what mine does.

Cold start it ticks badly, then as the ticking stops, fast idle (choke) stops at the same time, and if I rev it/blip it I’ll still hear a tick.

After a while no obvious tick when I rev it (prob expanded enough to close gap) but under load driving I hear a tick tick tick with engine speed / load as the gap will still be there and have much more exhaust exiting thus I hear it through the baulkhead.

Unfortunately I asked that dreaded question when mine was in for a service Tuesday, I’ve been told yes there is a slight crack and the noise goes after initial start up due to the manifold expanding and closing. Mine has been like this from purchase (over 4 years) and I was told by Lexus Coventry that they are all like that on start up!

actually they’re not, next predicament is Lexus Woodford have quoted £1600 for both parts and labour is 7-8 hours at £140+ an hour, will discount the manifolds to £1320-15% off, I’ve got a set of GSF manifolds that bolt on directly with improved materials and better exhaust gas flow.......BUT unable to confirm flange joint at base level ie......bore size differences (if any)......been quoted £800ish to fit the GSF ones and possibly cheaper if base connection is straight forward, head line up is identical so no issues there only potential issue is underside connection to the exhaust, there is no link pipe either just manifold to exhaust 🙄

Thanks for your info, do you know how they diagnosed it, did they just know by hearing it or did they actually inspect visually.

    Any info much appreciated!

    Thanks

Never heard this noise before and have had the car for nearly a year now and its been running great (apart from the PCS system errors occasionally) Will monitor it over the next few weeks, seemed to start in really cold spell there. Car now booked in at Lexus Glasgow on 02/04 so will see what mechanics come up with - maybe its normal - hope so.

Hi there, did you ever get a diagnosis from Lexus Glasgow? Any info much appreciated. Thanks.
