  1. Fair enough. My Dad got one from a brakers when a strut went on his LS but they had actually broken it during removal so ended up having to send it back. I think I'd prob be best off getting an aftermarket shock (best that I can find reviews wise) for a lot less money that will at least be brand new.
  2. I'm a stickler for tradition and original feeling of the car🤗, though I can see why someone would consider this.
  3. Would love to get all Lexus branded parts but will have to err on the side of reasonableness this time round. Do you think it would be worth seeing if a breaker has a shock absorber off a fairly low mileage car? Would be way cheaper but still an original part. Obviously wouldn't last as long as a brand new one but for the reduced cost could make sense?
  4. Hi, have you used these bearings before and do they last well? Only concern with aftermarket ones is past experience of them wearing down very fast. Are there any aftermarket shocks that you could recommend? Cheers.
  5. Hi everyone, The 2002 LS is making a whining sound and it's been diagnosed as the rear offside wheel bearing. All that I can find online is aftermarket parts. Called up Lexus dealer and it's £300 for a Toyota branded one. In the past when the other bearings went, they lasted months only. Our mechanic sent them back for new ones although we had to pay the labour all over again so not much help 😌 I believe that they were aftermarket ones (my parents owned the car at the time so I don't recall). What do people think- should I just pay £300 for the Toyota one from Lexus dealer (includes hub)? Probably best, isn't it? Can anyone recommend any good aftermarket ones if that's possible? Also the front driver side shock is leaking. That will probably be even more expensive from Lexus. Can anyone recommend good aftermarket air shocks? (must be air.) Or again, ought I set my sights (and wallet) on a Toyota branded shock? Will get my local garage to fit these things. Also, does anyone have a hub cap spare? As the one on the front driver side wheel has come off when driving no doubt. Thanks for your thoughts guys! She's such a beauty 😍 P.S; managed to get the nav working with the correct replacement reader.
  6. The tyres are flaky but don't look that bad from a distance. Would need refurb to look perfect. All four come with Farroad tyres but obviously the wheels have been sitting in garden for some years. I can take pics when I'm back home in next few days. Will sell for £200 or best offer. Cheers
  7. Sorry guys, forgot to say it is from a FACELIFT LS430. I also have other facelift LS430 parts I've been keeping for some years like x4 wheels etc.... let me know if interested. Looks like I can't edit the title of this thread anymore to clarify 🥴
  8. If this isn't allowed on here please forgive me. If anyone is interested in a facelift Mark Levinson Amp in great condition and fully working, please let me know as will sell. I also have lots of other facelift parts like x4 wheels etc.... We are moving house and need to empty out extra things we don't use/need anymore. The amp was taken out of my facelift that I owned a while back as a restoration project. Cheers, Alex
  9. Thanks so much mate but I think that it has to be the exact same disc that came with the car otherwise it won't read it. Sadly I can't find neither the same CD or the correct part number reader for sale online anywhere 😔 at least not for reasonable money.
  10. Hi guys, In our 2002 LS430 we've had this problem for a while now but never got round to fixing it. The sat nav screen constantly says "check CD-Rom" with a Japanese translation also provided😀 It seems that the sat nav in in some of these cars can get quite temperamental, had a different issue with the sat nav in a facelift LS430 I bought some months ago as a restoration project. Question is, do you guys think the reader in the boot is bad or could it actually be the nav disc itself? It does say to check the CD after all. I'm skeptical that a plastic CD could stop working but who knows? Does anyone have a nav disc from a 52 plate LS lying around (attached image of the correct one) and/or is anyone looking to sell a nav disc reader? (would have to be part no. 86841-13020 as printed on side of our reader) Just don't want to go buying a new reader if it could actually just be a bad old CD. Anyone had the same message? It would look way better with a working map screen. The other screens work when you press the other buttons, just not the map. Still want to get the map working though, it's one of the retro charming features of the interior in my opinion. Cheers, hope everyone's well on the forum Alex
  11. The other interesting thing is that there is no cable that goes into the third small square plug? Is this normal that only the two long rectangular plugs are used or is there something amiss with the wiring in the car?
  12. Hi guys, so the good news is that I have a new nav screen. Lex Elleven kindly agreed to sell me his old one. Bad news is it still doesn't solve the issue. I received the screen this morning and have just installed it but very sadly it is behaving same as old screen. Except for the fact the graphics are a bit clearer and there are no lines over the lexus logo at startup. I have looked at the nav disc reader in the boot and it ejects rhe nav disc so I think reader is working? Maybe is the nav disc. Does anyone have the old nav disk lying around? Mine says Europe 'A' version 1 2003-2004? Worst case scenario would anyone have the nav disc reader for sale? Also there is still no reversing camera displayed when I select reverse even with new screen installed. When you press on the map voice and destination buttons I hear the feedback sounds but screen is black like with old screen. Any ideas guys. Is on my new 2003 facelift. Thank you.
  13. Hi guys, One of the things that doesn't work on my latest acquisition is the nav screen. I've now discovered that the correct nav screen for the facelifts has different plugs at the back. Does anyone have a sat nav screen for a facelift that they want to sell before I head over to eBay to get ripped off for one? Also can anyone recommend a good and reasonably priced place to have the cam belt changed in West London area? Many thanks.
  14. I think I'll just get the actuators off Ebay and install them myself. Have watched Youtube and looked at a guide from the American LOC I think it was. If you have any tips/guides on rear door card and actuator removals do post them please mate 😉
  15. Sadly double losing it makes no difference in my case 😞 it is definately the actuators that have gone sadly but I think I'll be getting those used.
  16. Yeah mine definitely has soft close doors but turns out there are a few actuators out there without it which suggests that there might be a few cars knocking about in England without soft close, you learn something new everyday. At least now I know that I must buy an actuator which specifically has the soft close function included since they're not all the same.
  17. Just a little update guys, paul Frost told me through Ebay that some actuators have soft close and some don't. Most do but there are some out there without. So that answers question 3 essentially but the thing that I'd love to find out most of all now is how can I temporarily disable the rear doors from unlocking so that they just stay locked for now?
  18. Hi there guys, picked up a facelift 2003 a couple of weeks ago as a bit of a project. It was a bargain but for good reason. When I press lock on the key, the front doors lock as they should and also the boot but the rear doors remain unlocked. Thankfully the alarm sets itself, so If I open either of the rear doors it goes off but obviously the left and right rear doors don't lock up. When it comes to the right rear door, I solved this by flicking the interior door lock to the closed position whereby the red bit isn't showing and that has permanently locked it. Even when I unlock the car with the key it will not unlock and so I can just leave it locked as I never carry any passengers in the car. Frustratingly, the left rear one unlocks as usual even if I lock it manually like I did the right one. So...what I have to do each time I want to lock up and leave the car is to press the door lock button from the driver's window switch panel which thankfully locks all the doors even the rear one and then get out and press lock on the key. I've ascertained that I need to replace the door lock actuators in both rear doors. I have x2 questions though..... 1. Is there a way I can disable the rear left door from unlocking for now until I repair them? As I say, the rear right one will stay locked since I manually locked it from the inside but the left one will not. 2. The soft close function also does not work on the rear doors. 3. Are the facelift actuators different from the non facelift ones? Do all actuators have the soft close mechanism within them? I see that on Ebay some non facelift actuators are only £20-£30 but the 2004 actuators from Paul Frost are £100 each. His ones specifically say that they have the soft close function, so this makes me think that not all the rear door lock actuators include the soft close function. Many many thanks guys for any help you can give as always. Because this issue of all the things wrong with it which I need to tackle is probably the most annoying. It's booked in for its cam belt and water pump tomorrow as there is no mention of this in its service history and it is now on 105,000 miles. Will post pics once I get it up to scratch.
  19. Brilliant cheers. If I go see this one then I’ll look at oil colour and service history and assess how much it’s really been looked after. Good to have found this out learned something new 🙂
  20. That’s great to know. Has definitely made me more confident. On the LS430 is every 10 years (can’t remember mileage) so I’m guessing it would be cautious to apply that to a GS too but if it’s been well maintained maybe less strict than that
  21. Ok got it. Thing is the one I'm looking at has 99,000 miles😅 so looks like could be risky then with the tensioner.
  22. So it looks like I might have found one I like. It's a 2006 (06) plate. Can anyone tell me when they need water pump and timing chain doing At how many miles/years. Thanks guys much appreciated.
