  1. I had it done on my previous 2006 model after it got blocked they fitted an emulator to " replace the dpf which was drilled out( original housing refitted to pass the visual inspection needed at mot) back then, they also blocked up the fifth injector to reduce fuel consumption. The car ran v well for another 70k, passing four mots along the way before i swapped it for a 2010 model. I believe newer emulators are able to send signals to the fifth injector to avoid the need to block them off as this could cause problems with fuel pumps. It was £500 then which compare well against a 1700 new dpf unit. But replacement units are so much cheaper now.. If mine showed signs of blocking up, i would prob just replace it now, as they are cheap enough now. Learn to clean out the egr valve too every 6k. That was the biggest cause of problems until i knew what was going on with this terribly designed engine !!! Didnt stop me buying a second one though.....
  2. Thanks for that,.... I too have seen one or two others with quite a bit of spotting. I spoke to Lexus GB too , about the head gasket issue.. They said that at my cars current age, if it was to develop any confirmed head gasket problem, they would be more likely than not to provide support for the repairs... Guessing that means they would fix it!!.. But she did say all cases are judged on individual circumstance...
  3. Is there any concern to be had by small spots of coolant coming from the expansion tank?.. No other apparent symptoms of anything wrong... After a run in warm temperatures recently, there are a few spots of coolant on rad fan housing and surrounding... There doesn't seem to be any significant coolant level drop ..The car is recently acquired with only 28k on clock and just over 5 yrs old... Only covered 1800 miles in last 2.5 yrs and prior to this, driven by very sedate elderly lady. Some have suggested it may be the car ' finding its coolant level' after not having much use over the last 2 yrs ...though I am not racing, it certainly getting more of a push thru its paces from me.. Been fully serviced and a can of bg244 put thru, along with egr clean... Tips or views on this appreciated. Thanks
  4. The car finally arrived, after much messing around by the dealer/trader... it needed a clean, a service and the idiot had tried to mend a fuse and ended up getting himself a £115 bill to put it right..and sent it for delivery minus the fuse box cover and centre engine cover. Having given it a quality clean up.etc etc..its in tip-top shape underneath the niggles..and its running superb, with little difficulty getting 52-53 mpg on a steady run down th e motorway at 60 ish.. very happy bunny. .long may it last and hope its head gasket remains intact
  5. I am still uncertain of my position on the DPF, I believe that if the DPF looks like its physically present, there is no MOT fail... at least my 06 model never failed...and was MOT'd as recently as 5 months ago. I think if the MOT station knew it was not present, it would be a fail..but there is no way of checking as far as i am led to believe. At the time i had it done, it was a bit of a no-brainer...£450 for removal against three times that for replacement. Things are different now though..I can get a replacement DPF for almost the same price as removal..which is still 450..so I may reconsider anyway. Hopefully I will get some feedback on the head gasket stuff..
  6. Hi all, first time poster but long time reader. I am taking delivery of my 2010 (registerd 31-03-10) IS220d next week. It has 26k on the clock. Am well aware of head gasket issues from this forum and my previous 06 model 220d. What i really want is if anyone can confirm if Lexus carried out any modifications to later models to reduce the risk of gaskets going? or is my 2010 model going to be at similar risk as the earlier models. If i do have problems, can i walk into any lexus service centre and ask for it to be done under warranty (is this still extended to 110k miles/7yrs? Regards
  7. Hi All, first time poster, but long time reader. I take delivery of my newly acquired IS220d next week. 2010 plate (registered 31-03-10) with 26k on the clock. I am well aware of head gasket problems of this car, as i previously owned a 2006 model (for 6 yr and 110k driven miles) and disposed of it as it seemed that it was showing some early signs of gasket failure (according to my research on here and speaking to lexus/toyota trained techs etc)...I had also had its DPF removed to eradicate VSC lights etc etc... at 90k..and I had learned to do the EGR cleanout every4-6 months too. The car was sold at 132k with losses of coolant and heater problems and was of course out of warranty by a mile. What i really want to know is if there is anyone who can advise if lexus applied any modifications to the head/block/gasket to reduce the risk of further problems?..and at what point did this happen? I have read that the IS200d model almost certainly been modified, but what of late 220's? Anyone? Is my 2010 model at as much risk as my 06 model, or have mods been done? Also, if i do have problems, can i walk into any lexus service centre and ask for it to be done on warranty (presume its still 110k/7 years for the head.) I am intending to have the DPF removed again as it made a huge difference to the old car. Many thanks for taking the time to read and offering any advice.
