  1. The 2001 update doesn't support postcodes. Here are a couple of screenshots of my nav system:
  2. I didn't think of slightly over inflating the tyres, I think mine are at about 33psi. Does it make much difference?
  3. To be fair, my commute to work is 12 miles each way and the sort of roads it is and being a bit hilly 23-24mpg isn't bad at all for a 4.3 V8. I expected to use about a gallon a day. I've also got a bit partial to using the ECT PWR button lol!!!
  4. That'll explain it, mine is definitely the widescreen version so the 2011/12 sat nav DVD should work, at least it'll be 4 years newer than it is now for £30!!!
  5. I must be going wrong somewhere!!! I can only achieve figures like that on a fast A road or motorway. What's the secret lol?
  6. Mine is the DVD version, they must've changed from CD to DVD sometime between 2000 and 2001.
  7. How did you manage that!?! Was it on motorway or going downhill lol!!! My current average seems to be staying around the 23-24mpg mark.
  8. I've just found this: http://www.satnavdvd.co.uk/2012-lexus-toyota-gen1-navigation-map-update-disc-215-p.asp Wonder if it might be worth it for £30??
  9. Congratulations on the new car!!! Looks like you've found a good one there. Hope you enjoy it!!! I just got a 2001 GS430 3 weeks ago and am absolutely loving it, so effortless, smooth and powerful. The sat nav disc in mine is from 2008 so a previous owner must've updated it, was thinking of upgrading but if the newest you can get is from 2009 it doesn't seem worth it for 1 year.
  10. I've been monitoring it over the last few days going to work and back, I am averaging about 24.6mpg with air con on which I'm more than happy with to be honest. The temperature here has been 28c so the air con is essential and am pleased to say the Lexus air con is the best air con I've had in any car, absolutely ice cold!!! You are all correct though, it doesn't really seem to affect fuel consumption so I'm just leaving it on and enjoying the car!!! You don't buy a car with luxury features to not use them after all lol.
  11. That's what I thought, cheers mate. That mpg figure is based on my daily trip to work and back so if it's averaging 25mpg doing that I am well pleased.
  12. Just a quick query about the trip computer, I noticed there are 2 average mpg readings, one which says "after refuelling" and one which just says "average" which can be reset by you. Am I correct in thinking the after refuelling automatically resets every time you fill up and the other is user resettable whenever you like. The reason I ask is because I put some fuel in yesterday and according to the after refuelling reading I'm currently averaging 25.4mpg, the user resettable reading says 22.9 which I reset when I picked up the car.
  13. Cheers guys, I tried turning off the air con today as an experiment and gained 1 mpg on the same run to work and back. I really can't complain at the fuel figures when you remember it is a 4.3 V8 after all!!! Here is an interesting fact, I used to own a Ford Escort with a 1.4 engine and that only averaged about 4 mpg more than the Lexus!!! Goes to show how crap that was and how good the Lexus really is. I've had it a couple of days now and love the car more and more each time I drive it, so glad I got one!!!
  14. I just wondered, does turning the AC off in these cars have an effect on fuel economy? Especially in stop start driving. Also, is the fuel computer in the GS430 accurate? At the moment my fuel computer says 22mpg with the air con always on, when I drove the LS400 in similar traffic conditions the fuel computer on that said 24mpg but the air con didn't work in that car at all lol!!!
  15. I know what you mean!!! I looked at an LS400 before the GS and although they look similar the GS actually feels a lot more modern.
  16. Picked up the car today and am absolutely over the moon with it so far!!! Barely stopped grinning since I got it. Just been going through all the paperwork in more detail and it really has been well looked after, no expense spared!!! That'll explain why the car really does look and drive like new, it's really hard to believe it is 14 years old with 143,000 miles on it. It just goes to show how good these cars really are when looked after properly.
  17. Very encouraging comments so far, that's the kind of MPG I was hoping for, I think judging by what you guys are getting with the kind of driving I do to work and back I should get about 23-25MPG. The good thing is the hours I work I don't encounter rush hour traffic, especially coming back home at about midnight!!!
  18. Hi everybody, I only joined the owners club last week with the original intention of getting an LS400, however the one I was looking at had too many faults. I then spotted a GS430 for sale nearby so thought I'd go and check it over, here is the link to it: http://www.aandcautos.co.uk/used/lexus/gs/43-se-4dr-auto-sat-nav/bradford/west-yorkshire/16095637 I instantly fell in love with it!!! Absolutely no faults, everything works perfectly and looks and feels like new. Full history including loads of bills and receipts, every old MOT, cambelt done at 104k along with aux belt. I'm going to collect the car tomorrow afternoon and cannot wait!!! What fuel figures do you guys average in real world driving? Do I need to be aware of any issues that might arise or are these cars very dependable? It also has the Mark Levinson sound system, I just wondered what are the specs of this stereo? How many speakers does it have and where are they located?
  19. I've taken the plunge!!! Put a deposit down on the GS430 today. It turns out I was just in time too, somebody else was coming to look at the car today, the dealer had to ring him to tell him it had sold and he'd already set off so was on his way as I was making the deposit. I am collecting the car on Tuesday and simply cannot wait, I'm so excited!!!
  20. Got back from viewing the GS430, the only word to describe it is stunning. The car literally looked and felt like new, absolutely everything is in full working order, The air con was icy cold with no smells, all electrics are spot on. Whilst it was strange to have the heated seats on with the air con they got nice and warm, steering wheel works fine both rake and reach. The boot doesn't like like it's been used, everything spotless and crucially bone dry!!! Cambelt done at 104k, auxiliary belt done too. Every old MOT present, a folder full of invoices and bills. It's obvious the previous owners haven't scrimped with the maintenance. Full book pack and 2 keys. The car drives like new, everything feels as tight as a trampoline. I'm going to leave a post on the GS forum to see what they say. I told the dealer I'm going to think about it overnight and let him know tomorrow if I'm having it.
  21. Thank you everybody for your help and input. I think you are right, there is a bit too much wrong with this particular example, I rang the dealer yesterday to arrange to give the car another once over armed with more knowledge and to inspect the paperwork, he advised me that the car had developed a knocking noise and had it booked in to a garage on Monday and told me to ring back on Tuesday for an update, I asked him for some history details over the phone and he went very cagey and just said we've got a few bits and pieces to go with it. I am beginning to think that the "outstanding service history" which was advertised isn't that outstanding at all!!! In fact it seems almost nonexistent!!! so my gut instinct is now telling me this is a wrong un. Anyway, I wondered what your thoughts are on a 2001 GS430 which I've spotted for sale near by. Here is the weblink to it: http://www.aandcautos.co.uk/used/lexus/gs/43-se-4dr-auto-sat-nav/bradford/west-yorkshire/16095637 I'm going to view it tomorrow afternoon, does anybody know what I should check for on these? I know this is really the wrong forum for this model but any help once again would be appreciated.
  22. I've been to see the car and these are my findings, The engine seems ok, very quiet and smooth, pulls very well, oil colour yellowish, slightly brown. Transmission fluid seems ok and gear changes are very smooth and changes when it should. Suspension quiet, couldn't hear any noises that would cause any concern. No warning lights on dash, engine temp settled just under halfway on the gauge which I believe is normal. Cam belt changed at 119k according to label under bonnet Electric windows/mirrors/seats etc, even electric aerial all fine!!! Stereo etc all fine, it was too daylight to check illumination of climate LCDs but temp displays etc are fine, the speedo/ rev counter/ fuel/temp gauges and needles all fine Bad bits... Obviously air con not working Damp under spare wheel, it's actually carpeted under there which makes it seem worse than it probably is. Steering wheel only moves for rake but not reach but luckily in a comfortable position for me lol!!! Moves up and down fine with ignition though. Bonnets struts won't hold bonnet up The bodywork has a few scratches and scuffs but only what you'd expect for the age and mileage. The tyres aren't all the same brand but all reputable brands (Good year and Michelin). It stops in a straight line with no noise from the brakes, steering felt fine too. I loved driving the car though, so comfy with effortless power, I didn't realise that it had heated rear seats as well as the front (they all work.) I reset the fuel computer and after a roughly 15 mile drive in mixed conditions but more in slow moving traffic and it said I averaged 24mpg which impressed me. The thing is, I certainly aren't expecting perfection on a car of this age and mileage. Things like replacing the boot seal and bonnet struts seem quite easy and cheap to do. Time was getting on by this point so I'm going back again tomorrow to inspect the paperwork, it also has a 12 month MOT.
  23. Thank you very much for your help!!! The dealer is being very reasonable so far, he has already said I can take it for a good test drive to be sure I like it and he also lets you take cars out unattended so I can thoroughly check everything without him looking over my shoulder. There is no shortage of potholes etc where I live and there is a bypass where I can stretch its legs a bit. My biggest concern is the air con at the moment, is there any way to check whether it just needs a regas or something more? It seems almost too good to be true that such a big comfy powerful car can be had for this money, I also contacted my insurer for a quote and that is much better than I expected also.
  24. Hi everybody, This is my first post on this forum so please go easy on me!!! Tomorrow, I am going to look at and test drive an LS400, The car is on a 1999 "T" plate, has 190,000 miles on the clock and is £1495. The dealers advert claims it is mainly motorway mileage and that the car has "Outstanding service history" although I haven't checked this yet, it has had 4 previous owners the last since 2012. Is this a fair price for these cars? What things do I really need to check for? I know the air con isn't working at the moment, is this likely to just need regassing or something more serious? Any advice is much appreciated as I am a complete newbie to these cars, I currently own a 2002 Rover 75 CDT. Finally what sort of fuel figures can I realistically expect? Many thanks for any help!!!
