  1. Did the Motorway thing for the first time in the new RX 300SE-L and with the cruise control on averaged 31.7 to 32 mpg at a steady 70 mph.

On the return journey got 24 mpg at average of 80 mph without cruise on, admitted there were 2 drivers one for each way.

Just goes to show the benefit of steady 70mph, just wondered what 60 mph would have given me.

The car has just done its first 1000 miles approx

Does this compare with similar cars of members?

  2. Can anyone tell me if a new versoin of the sat navigation disc has come out yet ? I have 2004/2005 version 1 and as I live near the new toll road around Birmingham, the disc I have showed me going across empty space . Quite funny really it was totally lost kept telling me to turn right at the next roundabout :D .

If a new version is out can anyone point me as to where I can obtain it as my local Lexus centre has not found me one yet. Even if it means ordering it via the net, also the rear bumper rubber protection strip.

    Thanks

  3. Before everyone gets over excited with the RX400 has anyone yet seen the difference in serviceing costs against the RX300 version ?

With all this eletric technology my bet is the cost will be sky high. Also I have not seen anywhere the life expectancy of the batteries or the replacement costs. Ask first how much to replace this electronic gadgetry if it goes wrong outside the 3 yyear warrantee.

Also I suspect it will be in a higher insurance bracket as well.

Its all very well Toyota bringing out a hybrid car but as most I suspect will not be company cars but privately owned and just comparing fuel economy figures I feel will not be enough.

I think I will stick to the RX300 series for me that is quality and toyota can keep their technology thank you.

  4. No problems here, I have to repalce them soon as they are wearing out and living near the sea always make them last much less because of the salty air.

At a certain moment I had noisy wipers; because the peoiple who cleaned the car used a finish wax on the windows which make wipers noisy.

I have one smaller problem with the waterspray nozzle on the back window... because of dirt getting all the way up underneath the spoiler, the get blocked frequently...

Try using ordinary vinager that you use for salads etc on the screen via a cloth, should remove the wax on the screen

  5. The dashboard squeak on the MK1 I had, was due to where the plastic front parcel shelf met the window glass rubber seal, and when I had mine new 3 years ago, Lexus said they knew about the problem, but it occurred on some but not all, so no recall. I took it back and the problem was fixed under warrantee.

Don't know if you are having same thing but the symptoms sound the same as when the car warmed up the squeak went.

  6. In the USA Lexus has been named the number one manufacturer in the J.D. Power and Associates’ APEAL (Automotive, Performance Execution and Layout) study for the fourth year running. As well as taking the overall top honour, Lexus claimed a category win with the RX330 as the Most Appealing Entry Luxury SUV for the second consecutive year, with the RX470 as runner-up. The LS430, SC430 and IS300 also performed strongly in their respective classes.

Anyone know anything about the RX 470

  7. Thanks steve I knew in the back of my mind there may be some probs with it but never gave the audio side a thought. Oh by the way thanks for the welcome although I have been a member for 7 months now its always nice to know that there is someone who can give good advice.

As the car is brand new I think I will give this some serious thought before I come to any decision . Thanks again for your input.

  8. Came across this web site ( http://www.navwithtv.com/grey.htm ) in America who advertise a TV module to work in conjunction with the dvd sat nav using the same screen as the sat nav to fit on a lexus Rx300 for $388 plus postage. I have been in contact with them and the salesman says that he ships this unit worldwide and will work over here.

Before I go ahead and order one my questions are

1 How easy would it be to fit.

2 Would the mudule actually work over here

3 What would be the drawbacks as in 3 yr warantee etc

4 Has anyone any knowledge of this product

5 Would it affect the reversing camera

6 Any thoughts or advice would be most welcome

7 Could one of the managers of this site look into the pros and cons for me.

Reason for asking is I have seen the TV work in the X5 that has sat nav but in this car their is no reversing cameras which the lexus has.

I don't have the rear seat dvd system and don't want it but having a tv available to watch while parked would be brilliant.

  9. Hi

Don't look any further I have been driving for over 40 years all makes types etc including many 4x4,s. if your not looking for one that goes thru jungles -up mountains thru rivers 10 foot deep, then as a mainly on road 4x4 that can go over fields etc then the Lexus Rx300 is the one to go for.

I have had troopers(which was speedo and which was fuel gauge) -range rovers(terrible cars)-explorers(no pulling power) very bad experience with BMW when after an X5 let down often ( see other posts).

Just changed my Mk1 to a new Mk2 on the mark 1 the advertised fuel consumpton was spot on so hopefully this Mk2 will be the same , can't tell yet not even got 100 miles yet.

Apart from the car itself the backup and after care service is second to none at least the Wolverhampton branch of Lexus is.

As regards being on snow can't really say as we only have had 1 day that snowed while I had the Mk1 but it is far safer than an ordinary car (RX 300 has snow mode ) but any car is dangerous on slippery surfaces it depends on how they are driven.

As for tyre wear again depends on how its driven and road surface type etc, but I got about 25/28 thousand on a set

Go for one with sat nav if possible (still learning how to work it ) didn't know you could program daily events in it as well (RX 300SE-L)

as for reliability mine never let me down in the time I had it, replaced a rear light bulb and rear wiper blade only.

The Mk 2 is a great improvement over the Mk1 but I did go for top speck this time but if circumstances were different I would have been quite happy to keep the old model.

Last time I went for a 300 se without sat nav and wished I had gone for one with it, so I would suggest go for the best if you can afford it then you will have no regrets

think your biggest problem is going to be deciding on colour, my advice is GO GET IT.
