  1. Hi guys, Just tried to start up my baby...2005 RX 300se and she wonny go! Dead flat Battery, to be fair I drive my Mercedes Sprinter most of the time especially in the winter

I took the Battery off because the car is round my mums flat and I took it home to charge it up, the charger says faulty and it doesn't charge at all, I left it for an hour but nothing is happening

The Battery is the original Panasonic so its done well to last for 12 years but looks like I need a new one and this time I'll take it off in the winter and keep it on the charger...

So the reason for my thread was to enquire if anybody can recommend a good replacement? I did some searching on line but there is a fair few to choose from! Do I need a premium Battery?? I suppose it does have a lot of electrics to run, I have no idea if a premium Battery is necessary so I will take on board any advice and feedback

Secondly I noticed a few months ago that the gearshift doesn't light up at night and this can be confusing as I don't drive the car all of the time and my van is manual! Every time I look to see what gear I'm in forward or reverse its just black! I have to turn the interior light on when I'm doing three...four point turns in the dark!

Can I fix this myself? I am very meticulous and careful and I would be cross with myself if I damaged anything! But if it is fairly simple to remove the center console cover to get at the bulb then that would be rather cool and one less thing...

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Sorted the sunroof... I don't think there was a problem part from me being the idiot!

You need to hold the slider button for a second and then let go of it and then the roof will slide forward or back until open or fully closed

Anyhow it works so were all good...

Now... the next problem. .. I have a clunking sound at the rear of the car? Seems to happen when I move off and more noticable after the car has been stood for a few days with the hand brake on

But today I heard the clunk when I was out and about in the car

    So must be getting worse!

My first thought was a sticky brake calliper but I am interested to know if this sounds like a common problem for the RX and if there are any suspension issues

I have standard coil spring suspension. ..

Thanks again for all the help with the roof...

I had to do the reset on mine.

Before, it felt 'vague'. Was it totally closed?

Afterwards, it felt perfect, and safe. As it should.

    That was the problem!

If I kept my finger on the switch it would go past the stop position and start opening again

I just guessed where the closed position was... luckily it doesn't seem to be leaking

Cant wait to have a look at it on Saturday. ..

  4. Hi I just recently bought my 05 RX and still trying to figure a few things out...

I was just wondering if anyone can explain the proper procedure for opening and closing the moon roof

I checked the hand book and I think I'm doing it correctly but not sure how you can tell if the roof is completely closed??? It doesn't seem to positively stop dead

It will go so far and then it will start to open again so I've been on or off the switch until I think its closed

Seems odd that it doesn't just stop dead as in an electric window when I close it up

Any advice on this would be much appreciated...

Yup oil would have been changed with filter and drain plug so no worries there!

When I bought mine I did pretty much as PCM recommends, changed all fluids, timing belt and tensioner, water pump and spark plugs (although yours could be good for another few years and 40k miles) just seemed worth doing with the belts as access is easier for the mechanic...

    Ok thanks

Another 500 bucks by the sounds of things gulp!

    Sounds great!

First thing I did was have new tyres too... made a huge difference to the drive and handling, and they became a 'known' quantity again.

You can find wheel caps on Amazon I think, or eBay ...

Also maybe decide if you are going Lexus, Toyota, Trusted Independent, for your servicing?

I like to create a starting point and get the fluids all done - with the recommended fluids.

Enjoy your car! I'm stil discovering things - like the place to hand the loose petrol filler, when you fill.

( I also updated the wipers, Xenon bulbs, air filter, fluids and mats ).

I also had the air con serviced. It's something that sometimes gets forgotten, but should we get a hot Summer (?!) then it will be worth it!  ( About £50 for a proper one )

    Enjoy!  I LOVE mine.

Ha' ha I recently found the clip for the petrol cap also, they think of everything. ..

I did change my wipers for Bosch blades and now I can see where im going!

Can believe the previous owner would drive like that!! Still different strokes for different folks.see what I did there:laugh:

I will look into the fluids because I noticed the headlamp cleaner nozel keeps popping up when we get a frost, im a bit concerned that the washer fluids might be freezing!

Loads of spares and accessories in the states... on ebay/Amazon just got to wait longer for delivery though...:mellow::mellow:

  7. I have checked the service history and I cannot see any mention of timing belt and water pump, idlers etc!

So I guess that needs doing, which is cheaper a Lexus dealer or Toyota??

I also noticed that on the interim service they show oil filter and drain plug gasket but no oil??

Unless oil filter means oil/filter, its not very clear, surely they wouldnt just change the filter?

If so that doesn't add up because the main service before that was 12 thousand miles ago and when I bought the car I pulled the dip for both the engine and gearbox and both oils looked very clean...

Unless lexus give free oil on an interim service! I doubt it

  8. Thanks for the interesting reply

I think I will probably end up getting a new set of mats from Lexus eventually because aren't they such good quality...Also I might get some winter mats and that way I can keep the summer mats clean

Interesting intel regarding the parking sensors!

I have seen a 300 with the parking sensors on the rear bumper which is how I got the idea that it must have been an available option, so I guess I will give lexus a call and see what the cost if installation would be

If its a generic kit that they supply then it should be quite reasonable

  9. So I've bought my first RX

Initial impression... im thrilled to bits!

My search lasted three months and I'm glad I took my time and waited for the right car, there's a few RX 300's around and most are tidy but I wanted a lower mileage car and I managed to get an 05 SE in Silver with 59k

I have few reservations on higher mileage cars but I wanted something that I could keep for a good few years

The car had 1 previous owner and a full Lexus service history, everything seems to work very well on the car and after having tried every switch... not bad for a ten year old car!

Ive just had the alloys refurbished and a new set of Michelins fitted And there were a few scratchers on the body work which I had repaired and now the car looks fresh from the factory!

The last thing I will do is get a full professional valet as I dont think the previous owner ever had it done... which is surprising since the car is a lovely car and well worth looking after

Carpets could do with a shampoo as  they are a little bit grubby, im quite fussy with my cars I like to keep a car clean and tidy, the Grey leather looks in terrific undamaged condition and very clean so one less thang!

Next jobs... I need four new wheel center caps, a new drivers side floor mat as there is heel wear showing and then I think were getting there, all ship shape

As soon as I've had the valet done I'll post some pickies of my new pride and joy!

Oh' one last thing, anyone know if it is possible to retro fit rear PDC??

This car doesn't have PDC and I'm missing this feature

  10. Hi,

For those in the market for new rubber... I have just bough four new Michelin latitude sport 3's

I have covered around 200 miles and I can report that the tyres are amazing! Excellent grip wet or dry

Very quiet running and excellent handling

The car drives straight and true and feedback through the steering is very good, overall im very impressed with the Michelins they are always my prefered brand and they seem to work very well on the RX300 2005 SE.
