  1. I have a RX300 and get the random vibration/judder when accelerating sometimes.

For my car I expect it is the gearbox.  It first started to appear after having to reverse my car up a steep hill which it did not appear to like.  I'm sure the extreme reversing placed significant stress on the old gearbox possibly causing some minor damage.  Ever since, the car would vibrate in a certain gear at low revs but then disappear when in another gear.  Car generally drives fine still and has this week completed a 700 mile round trip.

However, I wouldn't expect gearbox issues in a new car like yours.

  2. Keep the RX300.  Despite the mpg it will be much cheaper than upgrading.

I have owned a 2005 RX300 for 8 ish yrs now and will keep it till it dies   I expect at least another 5 years of trouble free motoring if not 10 years.

Of the newer RX models only the 2016 MY takes my fancy.  However not paying the £30K price for these models especially when a good 2005 RX cost approx £3k.  Would rather use the difference on living life.

  3. Ludicrous prices.

Radiator can be bought for less than£100 and cost about £80 in labour to fit at any independent.

Air filter: just replace this yourself. Cost less than £10.  If the car has full service history why isnt the air filter mint?  I use to change mine every year but each time I replaced them, the old one looked almost new.  I now plan to replace them every 2 years.

As for suspension just leave these alone. These guys at Lexus love to look for the slightest wet stain near shock absorbers and go over board with their report.  Every Lexus car will have some stains/misting and these cars can go on for another 5+ years without any issue.

Finally as someone has mentioned, avoid Lexus dealers for any RX300 or RX400 service work and especially for MOTs.

As for 140k miles for a RX400, this is low mileage compared to whats normally out their for RX400s.

Did you not check the MOT history of your car before purchase.  Were the suspension issues not described in past MOTs?  If not then it is a case of the dealers trying it on.  If there were previous suspension history then you have potentially bought a dog.

In either case, your car will now be viewed as a dog to future buyers given the issues were reported in the service report.

  4. Just trying this myself with the same camera.

I am completely clueless with electrics.  Just got some basic questions:

1.) when you say you tapped into the reversing light do you mean you connected the wires to the reversing light wires.  If so did you soldier and is it a case of connecting the same colour wires to each other.

2.)  did you cut the original wire (4 colours)  that attaches to the circuit board?  You speak about keeping the curcuit board but then where do you attach the wires from the new camera?

Make sure it comes with the luggage cover, these are expensive only available from Lexus and a lot had them missing when I was looking

I assume you mean the parcel shelf.  Just had a look on eBay at the silly prices.  If only I had known.  I just binned two of them at the local recycling centre last week whilst doing a garage spring clean.

I personally cannot stand the parcel shelf.  They just get in the way.  Had no idea they would be worth anything though.

  6. I changed mine on a 2004 RX300 110k miles last month.  Belt looked excellent.  No sign of wear or cracks.  Could have probably gone over 150k miles easily.

I wouldn't sweat it especially if you are planning to sell next yr.

My RX is for the wife and we are expecting another 10yrs of trouble free motoring from the car now all the major bits have been done.

The gen 2 RX is probably the best value car out there for price, comfort, space and reliability.

The Gen 4 RX and NX will be my next cars but I will wait till both halve in value at current used prices.

  7. Whilst I like the RC300h, the current prices means they are just not a viable option.  Firstly, there is no reason not to pick a £35k RCF over a £30k RC300H.  The former is so much more car for little extra money.  I know all RC300H's are relatively new but they should be around the IS300h F sport £15k used prices to be in someones short list.

M4s are approx £30k these days and still depreciating.

Its no wonder why these cars are not selling.

  8. So decided to try the 24 hour offer that keeps popping up on this site.  Registered my details and then got a call from my local Lexus dealer. Receptionist who called me asked me to come in on the Sunday and to do a normal test drive before taking the car for the 24hr test drive (Lexus NX).  I wanted the 24 hour test drive so that my wife could check it out with me without the pressure of the saleman.  She would never do a test drive at a dealer.

Sunday came and it was ****** down with rain. I was also a bit tired from the night out before and didnt really feel in the mood to go to the test drive that morning.  However decided to force myself out of bed and honour the pre arranged meeting with the salesman.

Drove there by myself and was asked to wait 5 mins for the saleman to come out.  He sits me down, asks me a few questions before telling me that there are no NXs available for a 24 hour test drive.  Also the fact that a new NX was due soon meant that doing a normal test drive wasn't going to be worth it.  I was taken aback by the reluctance of the salesman to allow me to drive any car so decided to walk pretty annoyed.  Should have just stayed in bed.  He further annoyed by asking me silly questions about my supercar I arrived in.

It looks like the 24 hour test drive thing Lexus currently do is a lie but rather an exercise to obtain more contact information to bombard you with spam later on.

Maybe I should try another dealer but the next one is 90mins away.

  9. Thinking about buying an early CT200H for the wife.  She currently drives an RX300 but complains about its size which is not helped by her awful parking skills.

Whilst I know the CT will be less practical than the RX, how much less storage space does the CT have vs an NX.  Would prefer to get an NX but they are still £25k ish used vs £8-10k for a CT.

Is the CT storage capacity on par with the NX?

Should I hold out for an NX?

Car will be for her and our 2 kids.
