  1. I came outside the other morning to see that someone had hit the side of my car. My next door neighbor saw it, said it was a little boy on a bicycle who hit my car. The lock cap, covering the lock on the driver's side door had come off and was laying on the curb next to my car. I couldn't get it to go back on...so I figured it must be broken...the paint was also scratched off of it so I ordered a new one from my local Lexus dealer. It came today but appears to be the same as the other one...but I just can't get it to stay on...and after playing with the other ones...I can't get the cap to come off of the passenger door at all. How do you remove these caps and how do you install them?
  2. Hi guys, so I upgraded my Lexus last week...found one I couldn't refuse, a 2009 IS220d with only 55,000 miles on it and it was relatively cheap as well. Just a couple of days after I got it, I had it parked far away from any other car in the local Tesco car park and I come out....according to witnesses, some idiot was trying to park next to me and somehow clipped the passenger side of my car while doing so...he panicked and drove off. Now I got some good quality scratch remover and went to town and it did wonders, makes it so it is not all that bad but there is some paint scraped off at the very bottom of the rear passenger side fender. The damage is not really bad enough to warrant going to a body shop and spending large amounts of money. It is more annoying than anything since I just bought the car. Anyway so I am looking online for touchup paint and evidently, my paint job is a three stage paint job and some people have had trouble matching it. My Colour code is 3R1 which is Matador Red Mica. Has anybody had any luck matching this with any touchup paint? I actually live in Ireland so any brand I could order online that you would recommend would be a great help.
  3. My car has a strange metallic like rattle. It can't be heard from inside the car with the windows up...it can only be heard if the rear passenger side window is down. It is a very high pitched metallic sound, almost like I am dragging a coke can behind my car or a very light chain. This is the opposite side of the car that my tailpipe is on so I don't think it is the heat shield. I had a look at my brakes, all fine, no grinding there so I am curious what this noise could be. Any idea would be greatly appreciated. P.S. the noise seems to get louder the more weight I am carrying in the car...but that might just be my imagination.
  4. Didn't think about the airbag...yes one is yellow.
  5. So I got my new climate control unit in the mail today and was out installing it. When I removed the snow and torc off button interface, I noticed that there were three cables going to this unit but only one was plugged into anything. The other two were going into two plastic removable doors on the unit...but were just sitting in little slots which appeared to be designed to hold them. Only the middle cable was connected which appears to before the snow and torc off buttons which begs the question. I know that some models of this same car had heated seats. I also know that the heated seats button was on this same device. I assume these two extra cables are for the heated seat buttons. So my question is...if I get these buttons, will I have heated seats? Do my seats have the heating element in them already? I looked under my passenger seat and there appears to be two cables connected to the bottom of the seat. One has to be the seat belt signal when weight is in the passenger seat but could this other one before a heated seat unit? See pictures I took of my unit below.
  6. The Good news is...I decided to have one last crack at it and I did finally get the top cover off....I didn't remove the bolts but I was able to see the sticker on the back of my climate control. So now at least maybe I can satisfy the seller and find out if his part does match my car.
  7. Thanks guys...it will probably be next week before I have time to mess with it any more...I'll get back to you then...work is sending me away to do a course for the next month....don't really want to be messing with it in hotel car park. That video you showed rich1068, he also makes it look very easy. Mine had to have been off before as well as when I bought the car, it had a sony CD player in it...the original cd player was in the boot...so this shouldn't be the first time that all of this has been taken off...which should mean it would be easier.
  8. I was watching this video here...but he had already removed most of this stuff...he makes it look very easy.
  9. I'm having a real hard time getting the top tray off...I am at the point where I am afraid I am going to break it. I found the climate control unit that I want, came from a low millage car and also claims to have been fully tested and all functions working...but the guy is cautioning me...he says I should take my old unit out and check the part number to make sure they are the same part as he claims these are different in different years....is there anyway to find out my part number without taking it out? My IS 200 doesn't have heated seats so nothing below the radio.
  10. Cheers found loads of them now...I guess I just didn't know that the clock and climate control were the same part. I had a look at my car this morning...how do you remove this unit?
  11. What is the unit actually called? I searched on Ebay prior to posting here and didn't find one. When I typed in clock, all that came up with the speedometer.
  12. The clock on my Lexus IS 200 has never worked since I Have owned it....the face of it lights up an Orange color but there are no characters on the clock. I have been looking online to see if I could find one on ebay or another site but I have not found one like this one. Here are a couple of pictures of my clock at night just because with the dash lights on, it is easier to see it. Can this be fixed or do I need a new one? Anybody know where I can get a new one?
  13. After doing some searching around, I found a lock company about 30 minutes away from me who claims they can repair the old keys...they claim to have a case with a lexus logo for the valet key (two button remote), and a black case, without lexus logo for the master key (3 button remote). It is still going to be quit expensive for what they are actually providing, just the black plastic part of the key fob...but it is still considerably cheaper than getting a new key from Lexus. I am thinking about giving them a try next week.
  14. Only one I am finding at the moment and it is cracked just like mine...wouldn't be of much good.
  15. Not the best pictures but I think you will be able to see what you want to see...the one on the left is my original valet key that I have been using to drive. The one on the right is a replacement fob I got off of Ebay and I have the remote from my master key in it...I still have the master key it's self as well...all I really need to get my hands on are the black parts but every fob I find online the blank key is attached..just like the one in the right on the picture which the blank key is permanently attached to back part of the fob and can't be removed. I don't really want to pay 260 Euro for a key especially when I have the working remotes and the working keys...I just need the black plastic parts.
  16. So I am now encountering what appears to be a common problem with my Lexus model...the key fab. When I first bought my IS 200 three years ago, the master key was already broken...well just the black plastic part of the key fab...the keyless entry remote was still there and still works and so was the actual key. So I did some searching around the internet and found a very cheap key fab on ebay that came with a blank key insert. My plan was to buy this, take out the blank key, and put my original key and remote back in this plastic case. Unfortunately, it appears impossible to find one of these Key fabs were the blank key is not permanently attached the black plastic part...unlike the real keys. So since then I have my remote inside the new key fab with the blank and have been driving with the Valet Key. This morning when I started my car, I felt a give and sure enough, now the black part of my Valet key is cracked and will soon break..so it is not going to be very long before I don't have a key. I contacted my local Toyota dealership as the nearest Lexus dealership is about 2 hours away. He told me a new master would be 260 Euro...that he would have to order the whole key then they would have to tune it to my car...I said to him...but I already have my remotes and keys...can't you just order a blank key without the remote so I can just put my original keys and remotes inside the plastic? The idea of doing this seemed silly to him. Plus it appears to be very difficult to find someone around here who can cut the keys besides the dealership. Are there any other options besides paying the 260 Euro?
  17. Thanks for the advice guys...I just bought one of the used engine tops on Ebay...never hurts to have a spare I suppose.
  18. The picture is a stock photo I found...I just wanted to make sure you guys could see which badge I was talking about. Yes I think it is very likely that the garage stole my badge but I have no proof. If I have to order the whole engine cover, I might just try the scrap yards and see if I can find a badge or even the whole filter cover. I just thought I could buy one. Any idea what would be the best adhesive to make sure it says stuck and doesn't get stolen again?
  19. I have a 2001 Lexus IS 200 that I have had a lot of work done one...I want to keep it pretty much standard/out of factory and I know have it running great and can move on to some of the cosmetic things. When I bought the lexus, it had the lexus Logo on the air filter cover. It can be seen clearly in this picture, just behind where the breather connects into the engine and behind the oil dipstick. When I had my car serviced the last time, it disappeared...it took me a few days to discover it was gone, when I did I went back to shop. He claimed that he gave all the plastic parts a good clean and it must have just fallen off...needless to say I would like to replace it. I have had a quick search around the internet but can't find one so I must be calling it by the wrong name. Anybody know where I can get one of these?
  20. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good online retailer based in Ireland preferably, or the UK that carried hard to find Lexus Parts. I have a 2001 Lexus IS200 I went to get in my car this morning and noticed that one of the Lug Nut Studs had fallen out and taken the lug nut with it on my Back Drivers side Tire. Obviously I need to replace it and this is work that I feel very comfortable doing myself, the problem is I can't seem to find any of the lug nut studs or even any of the lug nuts that seem to match perfectly...I did find some lug nuts on ebay.ie that claimed to be for my car but they don't look exactly right. It is also getting close to time for me to replaice my Spark Plugs and I also want to replace the Spark Plug leads. Finding Spark Plugs is no problem but I can seem to find the leads for the life of me. Any suggestions?
  21. You are right, my apologies. I was thinking about changing the front pads as well and was on that page when I copied and pasted: http://www.mister-auto.ie/en/rear-brake-pads/lexus-is-i-gxe10-200-155hp_v10281_g900006.html I just want to make sure I am ordering the right thing because it will be more trouble to return them since I am buying them online...I could probably order them from this ONE part store in town but I figure he is probably just going to get them from one of these same online stores. These are the pads the website claims belongs to my Lexus model...but just want to be sure before I ordered. Good to know...about your car not having sensors. About a month ago, I had a rear head lamp light go out and I had a light appear on my console notifying me that the light needed changing...took me forever to figure out what the light meant. So I was wondering if I was supposed to have some kind of light appear to indicate that my brake pads needed changing...cause I certainly don't have one.
  22. Hello, I own a 2001 Lexus IS200 2.0, 1988cc. I have had the car over a year and it passed the NCT test this past February with no issues. Yesterday I started hearing a sound while breaking and upon investigation, discovered that my rear brake pads are almost completely gone. My next door neighbor is a professional mechanic and has offered to change them for me free of charge if I can get the pads. I went online to mister-auto.ie since I live in Ireland, typed in my Registration number, and it instantly provided me with 8 different brake pad sets to choose from. Upon looking at these pads and trying to make my decision as to which one to get, I noticed that all came with brake pad wear sensor included except for one...the cheapest one. This got me thinking, Should my car have this sensor? There are no lights on the dash alerting me that there is a problem and my neighbor has a mechanics computer which he hooked up to my Lexus and said that it was reporting no issues. Of course the previous owner may not have gotten the brake pads with the sensor last time they were changed but I was just curious...obviously, if my car doesn't have the sensor at all, there is not need for me to spend the extra money to get the brake pads with the sensor. I would also appreciate you guys taking a look to see if these are indeed the correct break pads for my car the like site claims. Thanks in advance! http://www.mister-auto.ie/en/front-brake-pads/lexus-is-i-gxe10-200-155hp_v10281_g900005.html
