  1. Sorry to hear you're having issues with your IS, hope you get sorted without too much of a dent in your wallet.

Eheh thanks[emoji106] I can live with the dmf judder when pulling off and so can my wife, may just get a clutch kit and leave the old dmf, we still haven't decided

  2. So, heard from my local indie, around 280+vat for the labour, so that would be a total of around 1.2k for the clutch + flywheel,

problem is the LUK kit doesnt come with the bolts, so I have to find part numbers for those! still beats the lexus quote by around 500k+vat

Will put the PN of the bolts once I find them in case someone else needs them.

  3. I had juddering on mine when moving off.
Turns out it was my flywheel that was worn.
I obviously had the clutch changed at the same time.  I think it is worth doing both if you plan to keep the car for a while considering the labour involved with replacing it.
£550 is a very good price.  I couldn't find one for less than £900 when I was looking.  Luckily Lexus paid for it in the end [emoji2]
Having said that, it depends on how many miles your car has?  Mine was on 109k, so the flywheel was pretty worn.  If the person doing the job is willing to wait, you could always get the old flywheel out and have a look before deciding to get a replacement?
Haven't spoken to the local indies yet, that is something I will do this week, I found it to be a good price as well! Gonna sort it out!

    I've got 73k miles

  4. so, it's time for me to change the clutch on our IS250, the biting point is really hight, and it is juddering when pulling off, (the only way it doesnt judder is if we rev it a bit, but that wears the clutch out faster)

I am thinking of getting a DMF as well getting one of the local Indies to replace the DMF and Clutch at the same time, Found this one online - LuK 415048710 which I believe is the right one for the Lexus,

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volante-motor-luk-zms-LuK-415048710-/282480330969?

(The only reason I'm thinking of doing both is because I can get it online for about 550 pounds, which seems unexpensive compared to other options).

might as well replace both while they are at it :)

what would you guys do if you had to replace your clutch? (and perhaps DMF?)

Has anyone tried refurbed DMF's? where from?

    Thanks,

    Erick

Not really, got mine for £71 - http://www.autopointcarparts.co.uk/index.php/bosch-blue-068-battery-s4026.html

Funny enough, first ordered it form: https://www.tayna.co.uk/S4-026-Bosch-Car-Battery-Type-068-S4026-P9711.html with code "FACEBOOK45" for £79.95, then realised there are cheaper ones around and Tayna has price match guarantee, but they declined to match it and I cancelled the order with them.

argh... damn, I had a look at eurocarparts, Halfords, and a couple of other sites, and it was always over £100 :S - Thanks for the links

I'll second the Bosch S4. Had one in my old car and it performed well, plus that 4 year warranty as mentioned.

Or what about a genuine battery from Lexus? No idea how long the guarantee is on one of them but pricing is fairly competitive at £95, plus I guess they will also fit it for you (not that changing a battery is difficult).

Lexus Twickenham will fit it for you, for a cost of 140+vat.. LOL I guess I'm going for the Bosch and DIY :)

  7. Hi Everyone,

Took the Lexus for a full service at JEM yesterday, and the advisor mentioned that the suspension front and back was badly rusted.

Silly me, I didn't ask them to have a look to see what they were talking about, so have no idea what parts, or how bad it actually is.

I did ask about MOT, and the advisor said that it shouldn't affect the MOT or safety of the car yet, I plan on getting a borescope camera to have a look and take some pictures, but was wondering if anyone has had similar problems with the 2IS?

I want to make sure the car is safe, and that it is ready for its MOT in November.

    Thanks,

    Erick

There's a brand new one (with several available) on eBay for just over £300. Any decent aircon place should be able to fit it and give your aircon a general service.

Can't help with a place 'cos I'm miles away.

You could probably find one cheaper from a breaker, but make sure that the ports have been plugged if you do - you mustn't let air/moisture into the unit.

ha! found it :) going to save it to my favourites!

  9. Hi Thanks,

The ones I've seen around those prices are from the US, and are refurb's,

The ones I have found from the UK are 500+ maybe I'm not searching for the right keywords :(

My main concern is replacing it now, and having metal shavings in the system which may cause the new compressor to fail as well.

thanks for the advice, I'll try to find the part and a garage that can replace/service/refill.

    Cheers!

  10. Hey Guys, (and Gals)

I'm in love with my IS250, and have had a bit of a disappointment this past Saturday.

AC Compressor is frozen. if I try to turn it on when stationary the car stalls, if I try to turn it on when driving at speed, I Can hear the belt slipping on what I think is the compressor pulley. I'm gutted :(

Anyway, looking for suggestions from fellow IS250 owners. from what I've read, I'm probably going to need a compressor, a system flush, and a condenser/drier/evaporatior?

@Linas.P  I read your thread where you replaced your compressor, did you replace the condenser/drier/evaporator? has it been OK?

Mine was working fine, up until it died... :(

Worst case scenario I think it will be very close to a grand to get it fixed :(

    cheers

  11. I think it was a great price, around the £2500 mark,

So far am very very happy with it, the airbag light went off by itself, I have received my tech stream cable so just need to get windows XP 32 bit on a virtual machine to read the codes and sort that out.

Already asked for some quotes for the alloys, and will probably go for a powder coat a few months down the line.

I'ts got Dunlop tyres with good tread, new disks and pads in the rear,

One of the remotes had a dead Battery, which I replaced and is now working...

Are there any DIY's on how to grease the slide pins? what should we use? copper grease? silicone based lubricant?

I've seen some exhausts on eBay for cheap, they are non OEM, do you know of anyone that has tried them? are they rubbish?

These next week-ends, i'm going to use some Gyeon Q2M Iron to remove fallout and dirt, then I am going to claybar it, and in the end some Gyeon Q2 MOHS to protect the paint a bit ideally it could use with a complete polish, but I dont have the time for all of that so this will have to do...

I'll try uploading some pictures, but it's very much original, nothing fancy.

  12. Hi Everyone,

Just got our first Lexus, I've been an inactive member of the Toyota owners club, had an Aygo in Portugal, and have an IQ now here in the UK, and as of last week, also an IS 250 :)

Have so many questions! :) but am kind of reassured that we made the right choice, we were almost going to get a 220d, but since we drive 2-3k miles a year on each car, we think we are better off with the petrol!

It's got 70k miles, (checked via previous MOT's) no longer under warranty, looks tidy for a 10-year-old car, but no service history :( the service book is blank

So far these are the bad parts I have found with it

    - Airbag light is on, already have a Techstream cable on order to figure out where the fault is and fix it myself...

    - alloys need a refurb as they are in very bad shape - all look as bad or worse than the one attached. (does anyone know how much it would cost to refurb something like this?) - S/W London

    - Humming noise on Motorways, mostly heard over 50mpg - thinking it may be a wheel bearing, hopefully not gearbox related as I can't hear it in the city under 20mph. It sounds like a jeep with mud wheels on a motorway.

    - Exhaust pipes are not aligned when you look at the back of the car, they aren't blowing or anything, but look untidy. (may be due to rust, and getting old?)

    - Car has a lot of Clutch judder when pulling off, have read that its a common issue, but since I haven't driven another, don't know if its because it needs a new clutch or if this is as good as it gets... - the clutch is not slipping or anything. (what should I be looking for to see if the dual mass flywheel needs changing?)

The back disks look new, and also the break pads, the front disks are slightly lipped, maybe a millimeter -  will consider replacing these next year

The front grill seems out of place near the top where it meets the hood and headlights (on both sides) - will have to take everything apart and reassemble to make it nice and tidy.

The rest is usual wear and tear for a 10-year-old car, chips on the bonnet, etc... Drove it home - over 170 miles and it is Excellent! I can't wait to get all of these issues sorted! - best part is the insurance is half of what I was paying for the car it replaced!

Thinking of taking it for a cheap service at Lexus to see what they say about it :)

Will keep lurking the forums for some answers on these common issues :)
