  1. It's nice to see I'm not the only Lexus GS owner to have the Battery go flat on him/her yesterday, :D , I was doing the exact same thing, I'd washed the car, and the water dried onto the paint in some places, so spent some time polishing them out, with the radio turned on and music playing, and all of a sudden the cd started skipping....

Whoops I thought, looked inside and all the dash was dimly lit, must've been left in the second position with all the ignition circuit on and the radio, drained it within 1 hour, stuck it on charge, and it was fine after. Didn't need all this 6 minute with the key in the ignition. I actually tried to turn the car over with the flat Battery and got a faint clicking noise :duh:

  2. I've not had any non sense recently in my lexus, but I did have someone in an integra type r try to race me up a dual carriage way, I over took him on the previous stretch, to which he plastered it up to the island, and so both cars nailed it up the next stretch....

I was actually suprised that even though the lexus is a big beast it was keeping him at bay, up to 60 the teg was gaining, then after that, dunno if he missed a gear, but the lexus pulled ahead by 3 car lengths, I'll not mention the speed we were travelling at before letting off, but it was 12am.

Just really suprised me that the lexus gs300 sport MKI was keeping a teg type R at bay, keep seeing him driving about now aswell :duh:

  3. The only think i don't like about my GS sport MKI is its thirst for fuel, but i think i may have a heavy right foot :D

I do agree though the GS300 Sport with the 18" alloys, and especially with the 10" wide ones and pirelli p-zero's does make a lot of noise, I'm curious now, is the gs300 non sport with 16" alloys on quieter in terms of road noise, can't say i've ever driven one

  4. ok, sounds like quite a problem you are having, I think someone had a very similar problem not long ago, try searching through the forums, as far as I know, the key just works the immobiliser, It should prevent the radio from working, I suggest you check all the fuses in the fuse boxes, sounds like one of them has blown, I think theres a 100A fuse coming from the Battery to the rest of the fuse box, it could've blown. There also might not be enough power in your jump starter, which might be why the dash isn't turning on. Try getting the Battery charged with a charger, and whilst you are waiting try locating any blown fuses

  5. The 2nd gs300 light arrived today from swift lexus spares, quite hapy with the sevice, and the speakers they sent me, unfortunately the Light unit although the exterior is ok, slight chip on the glass where the indicator fits over, the projector lens inside it for the hb4 bulb has a chip on it, and theres fragments inside the lens, I haven't a clue how this happened, and they will give me a full refund, so I'll send it off asap.

The thing is now i still need a drivers side headlight for my GS300 MKI, so if anyone knows where theres one breaking, with a good condition drivers side headlight, could you let me know.

    Thanks

    Paul

P.s. Swift lexus parts don't have another drivers side unit in stock, thats why I still have a problem... If anyone knows how much a new one is from lexus (£400 possibly) could you let me know, also lexus nottingham's computer system is down atm, and i'm waiting for them to get back to me with a price...

  6. Right, ordered a 2nd hand headlight from swift lexus spares, should be here on thursday, hopefully be as good a replacement as mine was on the car. Just out of curiosity, have any of you noticed the bottom edge of the light as in the pictures on my link below, have yours also chipped where the grey paint? is round the bottom. Also for those who are intrested you can also see the hole in the headlight and how badly its cracked, even though strangely i never saw a stone, and never even heard it, can only assume it was on monday when i was travelling back from nottingham down a dual carriageway.

    Headlight click here

    Thanks

    Paul

  7. Cheers for the reply norkep, i was thinking of either buying one brand new, but lexus service didn't want to answer the phone, so try back in a bit, just out of curiosity, or i was thinking of buying a second hand unit. Hadn't really given much thought about replacing just the glass, not got the time to be messing around at the moment. Besides it would look crap if i even attempted it.

I'm just gonna have a look at it, see if i can figure out how to remove it with your instructions, i thought there might have been bolts behind the bumper at the bottom of the lens unit, as there is on honda's, they are a nightmare to get them off, but at least one sounds easier

I've also sent an email to Swift lexus spares, and they have one complete unit with the headlight leveling motor for £75, so i'll probably just buy that and be done with it

    Thanks again

    Paul

p.s I could swear my car is a stone magnet, the windows been hit, the lights just been hit, either that or someone is taking pot shots at me, still not replaced the windscreen yet...

  8. Hey all, just had the misfortune of having a stone hit my headlight, either that or someones taking pot shots at me/my car. Its put a hole in the lens and cracked the lens from top to bottom diagonally.

Does anyone have one for sale, or know of anywhere i could get one from fairly cheaply, i'm a bit strapped for cash atm, also anyone know how much lexus thieves would want for a brand new one, i understand they will probably sell the whole unit, but i only need the glass lens, i can remove and transfer most of the other gubbins.

Also, just a quick question, how easy is it to replace a headlight unit on the MK1 gs300, do you have to removed the front bumper? :tomato:

  9. Tony have you had chance to setup the geometry settings on a lexus gs300 sport wither with or without the wider rear wheels? It would be nice to know the settings, surely driver profile being slightly different won't affect the settings that much, at least not as much as 18" alloys instead of the 16" standard settings

Edit :- Just to add the only wear I have seen on my tyres is the inside edge on the fronts, the rears as of yet haven't shown any uneven wear, just had to change the back two as they were on the wear marks

  10. Ah, that was what i was missing a few weeks back, my car refused to let me unlock it via the remote, must've been jammed by some foreign signal, tried and tried and tried, no joy, (this was after replacing the battery) rang my dad to arrange for him to fetch me, still kept trying, then all of a sudden after 3 minutes on the phone it unlocked, I opened the door immediately to stop it locking shut again. Not done it since, shall have to try said 'hug' method next time it does it :D

  11. Yes keith, the MK1's should also pop open a bit when you use the boot release inside the car, or use the key in the rear lock, unfortunately its a design defect, the mk1's only use gas struts to hold the boot, and they leak after a while. You'll probably notice the bootlid feels really heavy and slams shut on you if you're not careful, i have the same problem, the gas struts are £55 each from lexus and theres two of them, be advisable to replace both, just in case you wondered

Back on track.... my brothers boot lid use to fully open on his IS300 Sport, dunno if it still does, or any other IS oweners can comment...

  12. Erm, if they are the 18" sport rims, and you have the optional rear 10" wide rims they are as follows: -

Pirelli P-Zero Assymetrico 245/40 ZR18 for the front

Pirelli P-Zero Rosso 275/35 ZR18 for the back

Otherwise you have the same 8.5" sport alloys all round:-

    Pirelli P-Zero Assymetrico 245/40 ZR18's

I believe the Pirelli's are the original tyres fitted to 1996 GS300 Sports when they were new, and they are the tyres I have on at the moment

    Hope this helps

    Paul

  13. Mine did it after I bought it, i think it was mudzs and colinbarber who told me to top up the brake fluid, sometimes if its slightly low usually because your pads are wearing thin its enough for the sensor to move enough to put the dash light on, in which case it'll come on for a few seconds then go off. I topped mine up to the max mark and its been perfectly fine since. May want to replace your brake lamps aswell if they are out, if they keep blowing you'll have to find out where the electrical fault is, or buy better bulbs.
