1. Had my Is 250 for about 18 months but was never a fan of the wood interior. Decided a few weeks back to get some test sections of wrap to see what looked ok to me.

Went for a 8dm black carbon fibre wrap from an on line company. Did the work today and I'm very happy with the outcome.

Had to take all the switches off the back bit it was quite simple just best not to rush it. Know it's not to everyone's taste but I much prefer it to the wood. 461a70488b9d78f17de24b4a081c5df2.jpg1649c749413ba24c34e2148296128aae.jpg71ab0509be6e1cd698339faca3853c20.jpg9e3fd570702568bef8159821e56a1170.jpg59871e501d4444b2bfb979f3be3f7e2e.jpg10eabefaf8eb7fe7442eeb890dd17e01.jpg8eff9410c789193d6631661671fd4d00.jpgf58a807728be7af39cff95f727bf5ff6.jpg8139b7e22e6ab6729d50a059eeec2662.jpg698cf24795a889202f1b330ed693990d.jpg4c84e61cad5b523448cdfc8e73944892.jpg

2. I can do the work myself it's no bother. Just wondered if anyone has had the issue and when did it start?

Mine just squeak a bit for a very short while as I'm for example reversing off the drive in the morning. After that you hear nothing and I'm getting no binding.

3. Good afternoon all,

Bit of advise from those of you that have suffered from the issues with the rear calipers.

When I first move my car I can hear the rear disks / pads squeak a bit for example first thing in the morning or like today when it's been sitting whilst I was at work. The noise soon goes and the car rolls in neutral without any hint of the brakes constantly catching. The noise stops after 30 seconds or so.

The economy is not effected. Is this the start of the calipers starting to need servicing?

Many thanks

Lee

4. yes, after reading above I tried to get some from Sheffield, but none left within 81 miles.  However as I'd been meaning to get some for a while it prompted me to get Bilt Hamber Clay 200g.  Good reviews, so thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Their clay is very good. Best add a small amount of car shampoo with it as you can't have enough lubricant. Go slow and steady with it and don't rub hard just keep it moving.

5. £25.99 MLW  Any recommendation for the polish to use before this wax?

Autoglym Super resin polish is ok to use although it's more of a glaze than a polish. Bilt Hamber Polish is absolutely superb and would be my go to. One or two coats of wax over that will last you months. I would advise to clay the car first though

6. Last time I was looking for it, I remember finding real carbon wrap, which wen applied would be very hard to tell from genuine carbon (well because it is genuine... sort of). The only problem you cannot shrink it, nor stretch it, but wooden parts are fairly flat, it though it would be possible to use it.
Yeah I know what you mean. This is the one I will probably end up going fora858f268fb75a88449769bbdd094ca29.jpg1811e678c661dae878d38dab5025670b.jpgc907e8e6ea04f8c4bb9676d17fc50515.jpg

7. Strangely I am not the fan of the wood either, but I get a lot of compliments from the passengers especially if they are ~ 40+ years old. Obviously, youngsters these days only want carbon fiber and that is the group I belong to as well. I like FL dark/grey wood much better than pre-FL brown.
As for the colour that is obviously very personal, I had Black/Black, then Mercury Grey/Grey (which I was really disappointed about) and now Black/Black again. For exterior colours I only like Black or Winsor Blue (which is basically black with blue metallic flakes). And for interior only black, I believe the issue I have is that Lexus not only made seats Grey/Cream, but as well carpets and panels which looks a bit odd to me, plus they seems to wear faster then black, the only other non-back colour which would ever accept in interior of used car would be Dark rose and Tan Brown (obviously not an option on IS mk2), light colours only for new cars which at the moment I have no plans of buying... but again colour very personal thing and there is no right or wrong choice.
Unfortunately I'm just the other side of 40 but I'm in the process of getting the right carbon wrap to cover the wood. I have found a high gloss 8dm wrap which looks ok so that will soon be ordered.

I didn't want silver or grey interior but went for the best car I could get. Turns out the silver is ok and as I like my detailing I've managed to get a great shine on the car and being silver it hides a lot.

My previous car was a Honda Civic Type r in black so I know about keeping a black car clean.

8. Collected the new (old) car today
What a difference - its practically new (although its 12 years old) Absolutely spotless, cant find a mark on it whatsoever. The owner has only had to refurb the wheels and even they have been done really well.
25k on the clock and it feels new - quiet and pulls like a tractor. Sunroof is a very nice option and I have already got used to the leather seats - I thought that they were cream but they are a dusky grey which is quite unique and goes well with the colour of the car which is a light blue colour.
Loving it so far
Like that blue. It's a grey isn't it but looks blue in some light's. Nearly got that colour but ended up with the silver with the grey interior. Only thing I'm not happy with is the wood

9. Got my 250 SEL about 18 months ago for 7k. Had 32k on the clock with a full Lexus history and had been serviced every 3 to 4 thousand miles. It's also got the sat nav upgrade.

It wasn't the colour I really wanted or the interior colour but I went for the best car I could find. It's had a new water pump since I've had it but I will look after the majority of the servicing from now on. Quite easy to work on.

Been able to do some work on the body to bring it up to how I wanted it and apart from the water pump it's been lovely. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of the wood interior so will shortly be changing that. I've changed the bulbs in the fog lights to LED's and now use those as driving lights.

I had to wait a few months for the car to come up for sale then just went out and brought it.

10. I've purchased a 2010 IS220D last August. It has a lot of swirl marks... Autoglym Super Resin Polish did not remove them. Any idea what I should use? Used SRP twice, and waxed twice.
Super resin is not really a polish it's more of a glaze. It fills imperfections giving the look of correction.

Are you using it by hand?

If so what were you using to apply it to the car?

Also what colour is your car?

Removing swirls by hand is difficult but super resin is ok for what it is but will never correct swirl marks. Also you need to seal in the polish after using it or in a week or so the filler part of the polish just drops out.

11. Thought I'd stick a few more photos up.

Some of the for lights that were upgraded to LED bulbs so I now use them as Drl' s

The headlights I did quite early on as they were starting to yellow.

The rest are just some hard work getting the car clean. I love a reflection and shine. 20170321_141056.jpg20170321_141122.jpg20170201_153709.jpg20161228_142235.jpg20161102_074429.jpg20161102_081920.jpg20160826_123013.jpg20160826_125441.jpg

12. Hello Lee and a warm welcome to the forum.
I'm a big fan of the Lexus IS250 and yours is a lovely example.
Great pics and love the colour [emoji3]
Thank you. Wasn't my first choice of colour or interior colour but was the best car I could find for the money I had. I think 7k for a car with full Lexus history and only 32k in the clock was to me a bargain. I knew I could get the beat out of the paint with a bit of work.

13. Looking good there fellow, my 250 is apparently the same colour as yours! But at the moment is underneath a thin film of muck, got to get round to sorting it sometime soon, got a brand new Karcher K4 in the box raring to go but turns out I have fractured my Calcaneus (heel bone) and very painful it is too, can only just walk let alone detail my pride and joy, very envious of your gleamer
As above, any products you used and were pleased with/recommend  would be helpful.

14. Looks fantastic. Which products do you use to make it that clean and shine so much?
Thank you. I have various products that I use but the ones I would recommend would be from a company called Bilt Hamber. They do a range of items and most are absolutely fantastic and great value. I use their clay bar, shampoo, polish and their double speed wax which is what has been used in the photos.

I'm always buying new items to continue to improve the look and protection on the car. Once a car is fully decontaminated and then polished you can then add a couple of coats of wax and it will seal the paintwork for 4 to 6 months. You can then just ensure it's washed correctly and top up the wax every now and then.

And I never use these hand car washes.
