  1. Sorry to hijack this thread, but it seemed easier to post here rather than start a new one. My car (2010 GS450h, 65K miles, regularly serviced) sat for three weeks without being used - it started instantly and I completed a return trip of around 80 miles without any issue starting (couple of stops). Next day I drove 5 miles and parked, turned everything off and took the key with me. About an hour later, got into the car and all was mad - steering wheel didn't move, centre display didn't light up, loads of warning lights on dash, CVT error warning on dash display. Thinking it needed a reset, I powered everything off and locked the car with the remote and unlocked it again... drivers door wouldn't unlock. Clambered out through the passengers side (that's a big centre console to get over lol) and the drivers door unlocked as usual from the outside. Turns out the 12v battery was low... started with a jump pack and charged absolutely fine and had absolutely no issues since, despite the car sitting for up to two week at a time. AA chap tested the battery and it was absolutely fine (he didn't even try and sell me a replacement) but had no explanation and so far no one has been able to offer any reasonable one. Any ideas gratefully received
  2. Thank you LexIS200Sport - so far I've been absolutely amazed with it and can't stop finding silly excuses to go out - talk about kid with a new toy 😄
  3. So... 2010 GS450H duly purchased. 64K miles with Lexus history and battery check. Few questions: 1. Why is the DAB radio so diffiicult to find stations? This may be me and my inexperience showing 2. Is it possible to get the mirrors to fold automatically upon locking 3. Do these have tyre pressur monitors? (I haven't seen anything that suggests it has)
  4. A big thank you to all who took time out to read and reply - it's really very much appreciated. I have decided not to go with the car I WAS considering (2009 Sport with 137K, full Lexus history with battery checks in 2017/2018) as there were a couple of things I wasn't quite happy with and I want my first Lexus experience to be the best it can be
  5. Hi, I'm cosidering buying a 450H and am trying to get my head round a few things so I thought where better to ask than the people who probably know them better than Lexus themselves. 1. Spec levels. What are the differences between a Sport, an SE and an SE-L. ACC in particular is of interest to me but any other info would be appreciated 2. one car I'm looking at potentially requires a new antio-roll bar - how much is this likely to cost (MOT states 'Front Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint has slight play both sides' 3. What are the major warning signs I should be looking out for - what's good to have and usual new car pooints of interest Many thanks for taking the time to read this and huge thanks for any responses
  6. Happy Easter everyone. Thank you all so much for the advice - I definitely think the diesel is a non-starter, sooooooooo..... now giving consideration to GS450H or RX400H. More expensive to buy but we all know how easily 'just another £500' is and before you know it the budget is stretched too £8K. Looking at some of the cars out there, they must have been owned by NASA if the mileage is anythingg to go by lol - 260K is the best I've seen yet which is a massive testament to these vehicles. I'd certainly appreciate any thoughts from people who own/have owned either, as well as the benefit of the wealth of first hand knowledge and honesty found here. Meanwhile I'll be combing this site
  7. WOW!!! I had a feeling that this was theplace to come, and I haven't been dissappointed - thanks for the solid advice, especially the 'What to look out for' guide bobmc Ideally, I suppose I'm looking to spend around 5K tops. Currently I 'm not doing loads of miles (around 300/week but as a contractor, that can change dramatically) so spending loads on a car doesn't really work for me. What are the real running costs of the IS250? Does anyone know why the auto is cheaper on road tax than the manual variant Thanks again for all your help
  8. Thanks SpaceWagon - I've seen a lot of stuff here about the gear ratios. To be completely fair, I think DPF's are an issue with a lot of diesels that don't get blasted fairly regularly to keep them clear. I'd heard about head gasket issues... is it true that the head gasket thing was resolved 2008 on or is that just wishful thinking IS300 looks good... but I can't justify spending that sort of money tbh
  9. Hi all, I'm currently looking to buy a new car and want something reasonably economical, comfortable and different to the run of the mill stuff. I couldn't bring myself to own a BMW, Audi or Mercedes, Saab's are a bit long in the tooth these days so I've kind of reached the idea of an IS220D, preferably Sport (they seem to have a few extra bits and bobs). I've been trawling through all sorts of places looking at cars, issues and trying to get up to speed on what I should be looking/NOT looking for and inevitably found this forum - and what better place to get real world information than from people who actually own and know Lexus's (Lexii?? ) So, can I call on your experience and expertise to to give me an idea of what, where etc would be good, things to look out for, in fact any insider information at all. I'm very grateful to anyone who spares the time to respond Many thanks, Rob
