  1. Hi Vlad,

Interesting and something to watch for, do you keep all the plastic covers in place?

I noticed that some of the stupid plastic pins that keeps the covers secured, get brittle in time and with the natural vibration of the engine bay may shift a bit, exposing what's beneath? Last summer I made some time and replaced all of the pins I could see, some came out as plastic dust.

Also, do you ever pressure wash in there?

I personally never bothered with a pressure washer for anything and I trust the first owner of my car (an elderly lady) didn't bother either.

  2. What he said.

There are no new creatures like this for sale anymore.

Personally can't see how I can do my 6000 miles a year in a better way (both financially and everything else).

I can't see myself ever fork out for one of the EV's everyone's and their dog is on about, I can easily buy a new Tesla cash but I can't see the logic as we also get our milk at nearest the petrol station (no such luxuries as shops anywhere near).

That's ok Danny. It's good you've found a trusted body shop. And yes there's too many cowboys. I too have a trusted body shop I've used for near 10 years. 2 years ago when I got my 250 it had oh so many scratches which would have put buyers off but not me because of my trusted body shop. They rectified the paint as far as they could leaving about 5% which could only be done by painting. 200 quid is all I was charged for a full day's rubbing and polishing. So yes I'd have thought 300 quid for your issue is about the ball park.

We'd like to know what your guy does if you would.

Yes, will pop a photo of the finished article 👍

Oh dear that is a mess. Ideally the whole bumper needs taking off. The lip can be put back in place with self tapping screws though something looks distorted in the bumper. A rub down with different grades of wet n dry then primed and painted.

Leaving the bumper on the car makes the repairs and painting awkward.

Oh and for the record I bought genuine lexus lip for my car and yes it's in 2 parts and yes expensive but it came colour matched painted. The 2 parts clip together and there are a number of tongues which clip into the bumper lower. I found that once clipped in it was solid. Only needed a self tapper at each end.

Thanks Mr V, yes the lip is intact but needs to be wakked into place and secured with a new plastic pin. As to the cosmetics, I am seeing the body shop tomorrow and see what he wants to do, I trust the guy will want a few hundreds for this but I can't be choosy as we few of these shops around here and some of those are cowboys.

  5. Finally swambo managed to assassin my pride and joy 😪

Just this morning dropped her Avensis at the body shop for a new rear bumper after some old gent driven his SUV into her while she was parked in town.

The chap paid us £686 for the work done today. As swambo needed a car for work she took the IS and when she got back home managed to scrape the front left bumper against the stone wall (we have an awkward off-street parking space and a narrow road with cars parked opposite on the road so can't blame her).

As I am going to the body shop to pick up her car at the weekend, I thought I'll show them my damage. The only thing, I am not sure what this part of the bumper is called?! It's the bottom part of the bumper just under the fog light, and it got separated a bit due to a plastic pin shearing off. I dread to think how much they will want for buffing the scratches and paint it 🤔

October 2007 and onwards IS250s are able to use E10 and the compression ratio hasn't changed between these.

Am I correct that the biggest selling years for the IS (petrol and derv) are 2005 to 2008?

This will make a very big chunk of the running stock needing to drink E5, I wonder how many are even aware.

There are many threads about this subject. Many have had their cars spark plugs changed at 50k 60k miles and were told the plugs were good for another 50k miles. Concensus is change at 100k intervals unless there's a specific spark problem.

What about year's as opposed to miles? My 07 Is250 had the sparks done at 6 years and 31k in 2013, it's now just about to go into 50k, shall I wait until I hit the 100k ?

  8. Depending on your long term view of ownership and the mileage you do.

I have my own logic so I took the decision to own only one car until I retire, in my case hopefully within 10-12 years.

The IS250/auto build quality is what impressed me when I first started to look something that will suit my life style and the above logic.

I needed a car that will do everything, short journeys, long journeys, quite when inside, stay hyper reliable and hype comfort all with regular service. I do max 5k a year so cost of fuel is not an issue.

I am a big believer of keep things forever and hate the obsolete by design  approach every complex consumer product has nowadays.

I paid in mid 2021 around 5k for a 45k car and the IS250 is a perfect fit.

  9. My village garage is running since 1946, started by few ex German POW's. Previously, I counted on them to do a good job on more complicated vehicles we had like that awful 2012 Passat Swambo had. So I trust them to do a good and reasonably priced service on the fairly simple IS. They always allow you to bring your own parts and we even compare oil prices (they can never beat the eBay prices for C3 5w30). Full service is £50 for labour and a fiver for oil disposal. With £32 for a good oil and a Mann filter its just under £100.
