Thanks.

Hi , I got my car serviced today in lexus and I noticed this sound when the engine kicks out and its in idle mode. I can't recall this been there before the service and the more I try think the more I'm going mad questioning myself. Is this a normal sound of the hybrid system on standby ?
Thanks

I believe both the manifold (with the primary cat) and the front section of the exhaust (with the secondary cat) are both around that price. You are extremely unlikely to get the primary cat stolen as you cannot get to the front of it to cut it away as it is deep within the engine bay with very little room around it.
Thanks Colin

Colin is spot on in regards to the MOT emissions test, my local garage even told me they don’t do it on my 300h last time around! Might be partly due to the fact the engine does not run constantly (although you’d think they’d have an emissions test mode where it did!?), anyway not complaining of course 😁
Last time I checked (about a year ago), Prius and Ct200h Catlocs are not conventional Catlocs, just plates that fit over the Cat. When I approached Catloc directly, their generic locks do not have a small enough diameter/circumference to secure the “UE6” unit. My measurement around the centre as below (please double check this for yourself if needed). If you do find something or a solution to secure it, please share! 👍🏻
If mine gets nicked I will most likely straight-pipe, as I service at Lexus but MOT at an independent, the latter less likely to know, care or even notice such a “modification”. Fingers crossed the IS300h continues to remain unscathed.
Hi, thank you for the information and time to reply . I have the car 4 years and never once had to worry about this until now because it happened close to home with a couple of cars at work. I guess it opened my eyes and I just need to be aware where I park. Always parked away from cars so I dont get other cars hitting against it when opening doors now that seems to be the wrong thing to do as its worse been isolated away on its own so I can't win 😉
Lexus said the cost of a replacement would be €1,250 I was expecting more considering there are 2 cats or i wonder was that a price for just the primary one maybe .
Thanks again .

Sensors are before/after the primary cat not secondary. You could therefore replace with a straight pipe and not throw a CEL and it would also pass an emissions test if the engine is hot (not that hybrids are emissions tested on the MOT anyway.
However you make be breaking the law:
You could fail an MOT if the person knows what they are looking for as they check that a catalyst isn’t missing where one was fitted as standard.
Thanks for the information Colin I would want the car fixed right if it did happen I was just thinking worse case scenario incase there was a waiting time ordering one in from lexus . So it would be like driving around with a diesel with the dpf gutted out that so many cars are going around with due to people been forced to take thrm out because there not doing the milage. I did ring lexus the other day asking did they provide some sort of cover for the cat and he told me they put covers over thr screws so they can't bolt it off which I presumed thats thr main one up under the engine baby . I said I was more concerned about the second cat under thr car and he said that's just part of the exaust but in ur diagram it clearly states there are 2 cats. Il ring around and see is there anyone that puts some sort of cover/ Shield over it like they do with the prius just to be safe. The lad in work that got his lexus jeeps robbed put after market cat on which was cheap but what I read there not realy any good and dont last long .

It's something that the manufacturers state; newer vehicles use less precious metals than older ones. That combined with a lot more Prius and CT200h around where they know exactly where to jack them up and cut etc.
And reading that they know to pull the wires out behind the grill to cut them to stop the tilt alarms going off They dont miss a trick . Shame that there are scrap yards that buy them off them . Just a question if you would have any knowledge on if they robbed the secondary one can you just put on a straight pipe instead of replacing it until the car test or would that throw up lights on the dash . I dont see any sensors at the front or behind the secondary cat. Thanks .

I wonder if its because there isn't enough presious metals in the secondary Cat , its strange the fact they take the pruis and ct200h when there also in the middle of the cars and easy to get at.

I don't recall anyone reporting it here. Cannot say it has never happened but definitely rare.
Thanks Colin

Hi all, any reports regarding any cats been robbed on the is300h ?? I'm nervous now after reading about the secondary cat on them the UE6 part as it is very open to be cut off.
Thanks.

Hi all,
I was in my lexus is300h and I put it into sport mode and gave it a bit of a hard drive and got a bad smell in the car after. Now I never ever drive it hard always potter about In eco mode from the time I have had it a year ago. Would this be anything serious like the catalytic converter going or would it be the case it was clearing and blown it out because it has never been drivin hard before. I took it back out afterwards and the smell was gone .
Thanks .

Pull the left hand side vertical panel - that's where the 12V battery is - not the floor
Ok thanks for that mate 😉

Hi all,
Do you know if the IS300H comes with a jack. I know there is no spare wheel but there is a wrench for opening the wheel nuts and what looks to be a metal long rod like u use to turn up the jack . I don't see a jack there in that area. I didnt check under that plastic panel as its stuck down amd i presume thata where the hybrid Battery is so i dont want to mess about there. maybe its hidden else where ?
Thanks

Hi all ,
Any ideas if the attached wheel in the link will fit my is300h F sport ? https://m.ebay.ie/itm/163264650251?_mwBanner=1&ul_ref=https%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F0%2Fe12052.m43.l1123%2F7%3Feuid%3Db2272601a25c466881c377c387bf7f52%26bu%3D43762952567%26loc%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.ebay.ie%252Fulk%252Fitm%252F163264650251%26sojTags%3Dbu%3Dbu%26srcrot%3De12052.m43.l1123%26rvr_id%3D0%26rvr_ts%3Ddae120011660aad9a9f7db97fff48554&ul_noapp=true
The original wheels are 18 and this is a 17 . As Greg made a good point would it fit over the f sport break calibers ? Or are the break calipers on the f sport the same as the executive models which have the 17 inch alloys ? I went to lexus and ur man in the parts hadnt a clue or no interest he just said we dont do spare wheels that's what the gels are for and took my number and never rang back.
Thanks .

Best gear box ever - fast, smooth, quit. Use and enjoy as you wish.
be mindfull - Lexus normally gives 10 years warranty for its hybrid system, witch is part of CVT. I would not keep any hybrid car over 10 years.
Thanks mate 😁

Bought my spare wheel a few years ago from lexus and bought a cover off eBay for about £8 which will store a full size tyre. I was told at the last service that the goo will soon be out of date but as I have no intention of using it I won't bother changing it.
Thanks Bob. I went up to Lexus this morning to get one and the parts department was closed . Was it a space saver wheel you got and if so what size to give me an idea when asking.
Thanks .

I’d thought of doing this too, not top of brain but one of the things to look at.
Has anyone used the goo in the can for a puncture and if so does it mess up the tyre pressure sensor?
That's a very good question i have wondered that myself i read mixed reviews on that so i feel the easier and safer way is to have a spare in the boot .

Perfect Gareth id be the same . Thanks again very helpful ad always 😊

No worries. Btw, I bought the Lexus spare wheel myself a couple of months back when I picked up the car. It was £143 all in from Lexus Reading. Didn’t bother with the carry bag as that was another £100. It’s a bit clumsy having to carry it around in the boot but I don’t trust the can of goo. I suspect you may have to do the same as I don’t think the 16 will clear your F brakes.
Cheers Gareth . Was it an alloy u got for that price or juat a normal wheel ?
-
29 minutes ago, Pink said:
As long as the overall rolling diameter of the tyres is identical then it shouldnt matter if the actual wheel is smaller. You need to make up for the smaller wheel with a higher profile tyre wall. There are tyre size comparison calculators on line (like willtheyfit.com etc) that’ll show you what alternate tyres will match your current config.
Thanks for the reply Gareth il check it out. I might see how much an original alloy will cost through Lexus , it will pay for itself in years to come for the piece of mind .

Hi all,
I am looking to put a spare wheel in the boot of my IS300H F sport as i don't want to be caught out some night if i get a puncture. So the question i have is can i use a spare wheel of a nissan that has the same size as in 114.3 but its a 16 inch wheel where the alloys on my F sport are 18 inch. Would it do damage to the drive train or anything by driving with a wheel that's not the same size ??
Thanks .

Hi Gareth, i changed over to my first hybrid myself 3 months ago and i had the same concerns as you. the Battery level goes up and down like a yo yo . i thought it would last longer driving on electric mode but it seems to all balance out when u drive it and by breaking, the Battery meter goes back up fairly quick and ur ready to use the Battery again. either way when it gets to 2 bars and of u are in traffic or driving in a 50k and the engine isn't on it will kick the engine in and recharge. i had the Battery health check done by the lexus dealer and the report stated all was good. if u get ur car serviced by lexus the hybrid health check is free and once they pass it u will get a year or 15,000km warranty on ur Battery . as the lads told me on this form don't worry about it just drive it and enjoy it the car knows what it is doing leave that to do the work it's designed to do and enjoy the comfort of ur new car 🙂
