    Peter,

This also sounds like a fault.  When you press the voice command button the system should then bring up a new screen specifically for voice commands, with prompts.  It does not matter which screen you were previously on - the voice command system should behave the same... i.e. if you were on the map screen and say "play album name" it should do so in exactly the same way as if you were previously on the audio screen and issue the same command.

I am extremely annoyed that media voice commands often fail to work on MM19 as I use these a lot for playing music from an mp3 stick, but when the system is working, i.e. it indexes the memory stick properly, I find the voice commands very good indeed.

The system is, however, sensitive to a small number of command words only, so you do need to know what these are.  If you deviate from these then it will not work, but stick to them and IMHO it works well (subject to the MM19 software bug).

Those of you having issues should perhaps ask to try another vehicle at the dealer, because you should not be having these problems.  Voice commands on a Lexus are not a silly gimmick if there are no faults - they really work well and stop you having to use menus when driving.

It's hilarious that Is250 F Sport never had that much difficulty recognising my voice. 🤨😀

    Robert,

What year and model of vehicle is this?An RX450h?  Which model year?

It could well be a microphone problem.

On Lexus Tech there is a procedure for diagnosing voice recognition faults. Can you point your dealer to that?

    Paul

2017 RX450h The dealer told me to try repeating the commands ten times to learn my Voice. This unfortunately didn't work. We do have at some point.

Never mind that - how have you gone on with the actual fault and the questions that brought you here in the first place?

Well I rang the third party dealership. And they said the service department would call me back. That never happened. 🙄 yesterday. And today I really didn't have the time to follow up. So what I'm going to do is take a peek underneath the bonnet and take a look at Battery and call Lexus to check it's the correct specification. If it isn't the correct specification then the third party dealers going to have to compensate me for a new Battery or some other arrangement.

    To be continued...

    Hi Robert,

I watched your video and I've just checked my multi-function display, and what I said before seems to be correct, at least for my car.

When you're in the list of Settings (Language, Units, EV, etc.), keep on pressing the down button and you should reach 'Tachometer Settings'. If you press Enter on this, you should then be given the 3 options to change your display. I would ignore the Switch Settings option for now as this is something different and doesn't affect the hybrid system/tachometer display.

I've managed to set up the way I like now. 👍😁 I also put a how to. On my YouTube channel because really I could not find any clear instructions on YouTube how to do this. https://youtube.com/shorts/4eQKQG3pnKI?feature=share

I'm doing this partly from memory, so this may be incorrect:

Press the left/right arrrows buttons on the right-hand side of the steering wheel until you get to an icon that looks like a cog. Once you get to this icon, use the up/down arrow buttons until you get to 'Meter Settings'. Press the Enter button (the one with the dot in the middle). Using the up/down buttons again, you should see an item named 'Tachometer setting'. Press the Enter button again and you should have a choice of:

    • Change according to driving mode (this will show the hybrid system in Eco and Normal, tacho in Sport)
    • Always tachometer
    • Always Hybrid System

I made a video and was doing it all wrong. 😁 I'll give it try next time I drive. At times metering mode was greyed out. 🤔

The RPM tachometer should show up in 'Sport' mode by default. If the gauge doesn't show, it can be configured in the 'Meter settings' of the multi-function display via the steering wheel button controls.

It's always on no matter what mode. I thought it was odd being that every review I saw on YouTube of RX the dial changed. Can you please tell me exactly how to change this?

I believe the only other reason for the engine running when stationary (other than charging the battery) is to provide heat to the climate control, but I guess it wasnt cold enough weather to need that.  I have never seen any of our hybrids stop and start the engine frequently when stationary and I think in eco mode it is less likely to start the engine in these circumstances.

I would monitor this, and note the date and time it happened, and next time you visit the dealer, ask them to check to see if there is anything odd in the logs on the day it happened.

I just had a thought about a couple of things that could be.

    1. Third party new Battery supplied by third party dealership is not sufficient to give charge to the petrol engine. I shall contact them and find out what Battery they put in. The original Lexus Battery was flat as a pancake apparently.

    2. Alternator is not giving enough charge to the Battery and is defective perhaps?

    3. I'm actually driving too efficiently and not engaging the petrol engine enough to give sufficient charge to the Battery.

    4. This is a long shot but you never know it could be the air con compressor interfering with the charging of the Battery somehow?

    I've got a 2018 RX450h Luxury and I didn't even know that it's got an RPM gauge!

I have no idea what it could be but I will say that I never use Eco mode so try it in 'normal' mode and see if it still happens.

Being that it is a 2017 it hasn't got the magic dial that switches over to a different display play when in eco to normal. Yeah that's what I tried straight away no difference.

  9. So so I've recently purchased a 2017 rx450h luxury. And of course being Lexus nothing goes wrong. However something old happened today that might be a sign of a bigger problem perhaps?

Basically I was on a hill waiting in traffic had my foot on the brake the hybrid Battery was only one bar from being fully charged. And instead of the RPM gauge going to 0 engaging the electric Battery. The RPM was fluctuating between 1000 RPM and 0 several times until I moved off. I was also Eco mode if that makes a difference.

  10. On my MK2 1998 GS I have a issue with electrical system. How it starts is usually the auto headlights don't turn off when closing the door. And then the electric mirrors and central locking and footwell lights don't work. I have found out that if I take the 5 amp fuse from the passenger side which is ECU and then put it back in its solve the problem. I would like to get this sorted out as it's a inconvenience. I haven't tried the new 5 amp fuse yet.

I'm sorry it's happened to you but, really, what do you expect people to do?

The scrotes who do this have got it down to a fine art and can have the whole thing done in less than two minutes from start to finish, so they've gone before a call to the police can even be completed, and that's even if people know what's happening and know to call the police.

Most people will hear a noise and may look out of the window to see what's going on, only to see a guy in overalls under a car, so the natural and normal assumption is that it's a mechanic doing legitimate work.

I expect them to at least try and inform me of anything they saw. After all if it was a different kind of theft and happend to them they wouldn't be happy about it right? But we tried to prevent it or seek justice it would at least make things right. But end of day Police budget cuts are really to blame here.

  12. Well it seems my wife's Rx400h has been a victim of catalytic converter theft. Nothing new right? But I've been very disappointed in people. Such as the Police and people that were in flats at time of incident.

Apparently someone witnessed crime yet they didn't call the Police or call the Police or do anything for that matter. I found this out from third party and have them my phone number no call. Also don't get me started about distribution of letter appealing for help from neighbours to at least help try and track down the thieves. N. Police haven't really updated me on progress. So I've most definitely lost my faith in humanity. And also looks like the RX hybrid will be sold as we really don't want to deal with another theft and even if we were fit Cat lock it's not a guarantee it would be a sufficient deterrent.
