I would say that's about normal on cold start up,how long does it remain there for
Not sure as didn't want it overfueling and dumping fuel into the bores and oil. But at least 3-4 minutes so turned it off.
When it starts hot it blips up to 1400 then straight back to normal.

I think Toyota Hydrogen fuel cell will shortly be the way to go .............. provided BP, Esso Shell etc can get their acts together to install refuelling points on their forecourts
I understand Toyota already have a fleet of these cars with the Met Police in London with refuelling points at Hendon, Heathrow and Swindon

The fuelling point is at Sainsburys, but I have never seen anyone there?

My GS 2012 seems to rev to 1400 RPM when it starts from cold and in neutral? If I put in gear seems to rev normally. I guess the gear box reduces it?
I normally start then drive off but this morning let it idle whilst I put stuff in the boot the stink of petrol was really bad.
Lexus Edgware says its ok. I have Lexus warranty on it?
Is this normal?

Yes Lee I do know that the wheel bearings are now an integral part of the hub, and dependent on if the car is front or rear wheel drive has the ABS ring built in. On our GS rear wheel drive cars the ring is on the drive shaft with a separate sensor in the side of the rear hub. On the fronts it is all one unit.
On the CT the reverse is the case with the drive shafts going to the front wheels. It is still a fact that according to your link the RRP price of a bearing is close to £290 when they can be bought at less than 1/5 of that price, and I guarantee that at the lower price there is still a big markup. We tend to believe that because something is made in China the quality must be poor even though we have no idea where the OEM components are made. In my working life I traveled the world to all sorts of production plants including China, and many facilities there are ahead of what is available in the west.
Manufacturers fit these parts to cars because they are cheaper for them than the old setup, and not because they are more reliable or better in some way.
John.
Everything mechanical we have ever bought made in china appeared to be made of low grade plasticine. I have a friend that repairs scooters and he won't buy Chinese parts but likes those made in Thailand as says they are very good.

Did you sort it?

I bought some Hako ones for my 2012 GS.
took them off after the first trip out the wind noise was just too high.
Also they snapped a little on the ends that go into the window channel but still fit.
if anyone wants them free I am in North London, haven't taken the sticky tape off so will fit again

All possible causes checked by friend mechanic nothing is amiss
So only obvious issue is wheels which are worn on the outsides is only contributing factor not going to replace them as tyres are still legal ie well above 1.6mm on centre 3/4 of tyre
Actually just checked my fronts worn on the inside

It is absolutely normal, same for me and colder days outside it only get worse. Better tyres will reduce this but wait till summer and will be ok.😉
Get a similar noise on my GS 250 on full lock sounds like a slight dragging noise. However, had it on other cars with quite large tyres so haven't worried about it.

Wonder if Lexus would help with the repair under good will? Worth asking Honda changed us an ABS unit at 147ish K on an accord just charged us for a brake fluid change. We had a similar issue with Mercedes and they were not interested so mixed bag.

The insurers love 50/50 as you both loose your no claims and or have a fault accident on your insurance record.
ive used Adrian Flux for a lot of years but sounds like their claims help is not too good?

Yes I would agree the last set of disks and pads I changed on my sons car were brembo and very very good.

took the 'ol gal for an m.o.t today as it was due mid December and it passed. However, the advisories listed both back boxes have a very slight blow, all the pads are legal but should be replaced and the handbrake needs some adjustment. So... I'll be booking it in to have the work done anyway with the parts I've ordered. I've managed to get the back boxes via eBay after some favourable recommendations
Ironically the German made exhaust will be shipped from Poland and should arrive in a week.
...and the pads I've got from Euro car parts. A set of brembo's for £49.48 with their 50% off discount code

That looks very good value?

Are you sure it's not the suspension compressing and the wheel arch giving the impression of forward or real movement? 50 mm of movement between forward and reverse would be a big movement and should be something relatively obvious as to the cause?

So, its getting there Slowly and my god body filler stinks and is hard to work with … Done plenty of filling walls plastering ceilings walls etc but body filler … different kettle of fish 😂
Still need to give it another layer and then a fine sand with 180 then a wee coat of paint … nothing special just black maybe, just to see how it is.
So for the first time doing welding and some body work etc … What do you guys think ? Im a little :s about the rear arch bit besides that im really happy with it so far ...
A lot of hard work, but looks like the fun she'd article looks good. There is some bad garage welding out there so you should be proud of what you have achieved.

Thanks all, it’s booked into the garage I bought it from tomorrow. Glad I asked on this as I’d have left well alone, until the warning about fire was mentioned!
Hi did you get it sorted?

Better it has some protection prior to anyone looking at it though, but your logic is hard to disagree with 🙂

would it not simply be a better option to get a competent auto electrician to deal with it even it's to ( just ) avoid a catastrophic fire somewhere in the car

Which means that if you did start proceedings then you have the proof that you gave him the opportunity to rectify things or take the car back.......assuming it was sent recorded or registered post not just by email (which gives no proof he got it himself).
You have the right to get a car repaired by a different garage and then claim back via the small claim court for any defects at point of sale or within a reasonable period

Used a few trimes very good and fair

Got an answer to my email this morning.
Hi John
I just read your email regarding the Lexus YX08 ***.
I'm sorry to hear you feel this way.
I would just like to clear up a couple of points that you have made.
If an MOT has any advisory notices, then that is exactly what they are and they DO NOT need to be replaced at that moment in time and You were fully aware of these when you bought the vehicle.
If the brake calipers were seized on at the point of sale, then this would have been picked up before hand and put right before the car was sold.
Brake calipers can seize at anytime. They are consumable items, which are not covered.
Lastly if you would like me to provide you with a copy of the mechanical report (which was carried out by an independent party) then I am more than happy to do so.
Regards
Neil

Website: www.selectmotortradingltd.co.ukWould a reputable dealer not fix the advisories before sale? I'm sure he said they'd been sorted but I have no proof.
If they MOTD it I might be tempted to contact VOSA lots of dealers have very lenient friends in the MOT trade so sticking callipers etc can be missed. I do know the dealer you are talking about as my mum lives near by. My opinion was when we looked there that I didn’t think the cars were well prepared but only my opinion.

I think Euro car parts have got better partic the quality on consumables and brake parts etc

Sometimes better to get stuff done. Plus unless you have a decent size workshop/garage not the best time of year to complete large complicated jobs. Good you have changed the water pump whilst doing the belt and have the proper seals.
Ive done a couple of bits on ours but nothing too big as can’t get a car in my garage at the moment and it’s chilly.

Lexus GS250
I set off on a roundabout in the wet with a sharp turn. Something I guess the traction control made a noise on back NS.
Now the light won’t go out or re set ?
Any ideas I still have Lexus warranty but have to pay diagnostics, nothing comes up on my code reader either.
I checked tyre pressures rear was about 2 lbs below other 3
