  1. Hi Graham I had a similar probem on my 98 LS. It was tracked down to wear on the offside anti roll bar rubber bush, it went away with a squirt of WD40 but came back a week later. I have since replaced both the offside and nearside bushes and silence is golden as they say. Easy job to do just two bolts each side, you will need to raise the front for access and remove the plastic cover panels for better access. I did one side with the cover in place but it was better with it removed, only three bolts each side for the cover. This is the part number for a 98 model 4881550112 £8.56 plus the dreaded VAT each. Check with the dealer as they may not be the same.

  3. Hi Does anybody know the correct tyre pressure for a 1998 LS400 with DHP the tyres are 245/50/17, although the spare is 225/55/17. Thanks
  4. When the alignment check was done the camber angle, and all other angles were ok. The dealer did not change anything.
  5. Don't know about a safety check, but Lexus Edinburgh run a free carwash on a Saturday morning. Just turn up, sit in the lounge, drink the free coffee and eat the danish pastries. I have used them on many occasions and nobody has tried to sell me anything yet. And the car wash is Ok as well.
  6. The tyres all run at 34 PSI as advised by the Lexus dealer I am not to sure what you mean by this. Yes the wheel is bigger in diameter by 1". But the wheels offset, width and overall diameter with the tyre fitted are the same as the standard wheel and tyre that they replace. the only real difference is the width of the tyre going from 225 to 245. Could the difference in width and profile 60 series down to 50 series make that much difference? Sorry if i'm being a bit thick. Both upper control arms and both reaction struts have been replaced by the main dealer. They advised that both lower arms and balljoint were ok.
  7. I have a normal 1998 LS (if you could call an LS normal) fitted with 17" DHP alloys and 245/50 tyres. These have only been fitted to the car since July of last year but have developed serious wear on the the outside edge of both front tyres. At the current rate of wear I will need new tyres in under a year and less than 6000 miles!! Not long before these wheels were fitted I had the tracking checked at the main dealer with the standard 16" wheels and 225/60 D8Z tyres fitted and all alignment figures were ok. I have not noticed any other problems with the cars handling or ride quality since fitting these wheels. I have the following questions 1 Are the alignment figures for a standard 400 and DHP 400 the same? 2 has anyone had a similar problem with larger wheels, if did you fix it and how? Thanks in advance
  8. check this for a bargain, lexus wheels refurbished lexus alloys, ebay item number 7992342163 being sold without reserve. these alloys were standard fit on the dynamic handling pack LS400 but will fit standard models and possibly the GS range. no tyres or centres but still a bargin if they go for a good price.
  9. Thanks, for some reason i thought it would be harder with all the seat electrics.
  10. Any information on the removal of the drivers seat from a 98 LS with side airbags. The seat is sagging badly and needs repaired. Many thanks in advance.
  11. I did have SP300 sports on before which had a big problem with tramlining. The D8z tyres were original equipment on the LS and did reduce the tramlining and general figety ride but the slow wandering is still there. It seems to be more of a reaction to a bump or dip in the road. I only hope its not anything to do with the steering gear although it was checked by the dealer as well and seems OK.
  12. My 1998 LS has devloped a wander at motorway speeds, any uneven surface tends to rock the car left and right and cause the car to wander neading constant steering adustments. My local Lexus garage checked the suspension and advised the replacement of the N/S upper wishbone (the balljoint was worn) and both N/S and O/S reaction struts which has been done, everything else was OK. The car has done 60,000 miles, has four brand new D8z tyres and a full alignment check and adustment was done when the balljoint was fitted. Only thing I can think of next is springs and shocks. Any help or advice please.
  13. stick with Dunlop D8zs. I had dunlop sp300s fitted on the front when I bought mine they were terrible, the grip and noise levels were OK but the front of the car wandered all over the road. After checking the alignment was ok the garage suggested swaping the fronts for the rears which were D8zs. What a difference, the car is now stable without wander at any speed and they make less noise. If possible try to get the ones made in japan not europe judging by other posts they are the prefered choice. shame about the cost of the alignment check!!
  14. had the same prob on both doors. tried the door mirrors but they still leaked. took all the door trims off and sat inside while the car was sprayed with a hose. just a matter of following the water after that.
  15. Had a similar prob on my mark IV, the prob wasn't the door mirror but the window seal on the door. this was letting water through on to the plastic door surround which then run down the trim to exit from the tweeter. the interior trim needs removing to access the seal securing bolts. once these have been removed the seal can be removed. it apears that a non setting mastic was used at the factory. once this was cleaned off and replaced everything was fine. watch the securing clips for the interior trim they break easy.
