You'll find the paint code on either the drivers door slam panel on that sticker or the passenger door slam panel (its on the passenger side on my is250) Its a 3 digit number. Don't ask lexus. When I did they wanted a fiver to look it up as that's how much it costs them.

Paint2fix is a superb touch up kit.

    I've found it thanks

Best place is Lexus themselves, it’s one of the few places that stocks it.
Paint code will be on the chassis plate, on the left hand side B pillar, the code will be the bottom line if I remember

    Thanks

Halfords did cross my mind so thanks for that!

I think mine is 'silver lining met' but a google search of those different silvers doesn't bring up many results. Are those the official colour names?

Actually I ended up finding it and the code is 1J4

If you need an alternative, I've used paints4u many times including for Lexus, Mazda, Jaguar and Landrover, and always found them to be excellent.

I used touch spray from Halfords for 3 different cars and returned all tins due to mismatch, so wouldn't recommend them if the thought had occurred.  I suppose they might get it right in some cases.

This may help confirm the vehicle tag details.

A little concerning that one of the colours available was “Atomic Silver” a few years after the nuclear power station incident in Japan!

What's the B pillar? I've found the VIN number on the bottom right of the windscreen but I can't see any paint code there.

There is a cable clip near the top where you can run the cable towards the dash? the clears the lid and it closes properly. then again depends how thick the charger cable is though

Cable clip top right of picture.

Thanks this is what I was trying to use but the to Tomtom cable was a bit too thick for it but I sort of tried to make it work anyway

i lifted out the cup holders and the audio controller unit in 1 piece

then i filed a a slot in the top edge deep enough to accept the cable

i then used some self adhesive tape to cover the top of the cable

and routed the cable to the glove box .

nothing can be seen when the arm rest is down.

I'm not that much of a DIY person with cars so routing the cable anywhere sounds a bit complicated.

It seems a bit silly that they wouldn't have designed a way for the cables to come out naturally since the sockets are under the arm rest!?

I did manage to fit the cable to the top left side (in your pictures it's the bottom left I think) and close the arm rest without the cable being squashed as I thought maybe that's what I'm supposed to do and there seemed to be a tiny gap in that area. I assume this wasn't correct?

Here's everything ( almost!) you need to know about the IS250 production.

    https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/lexus/is-2005/

The model with all the toys is the SE-L, easily identified by its wood (real) trim inserts in the passenger compartment and electric rear sun-shade, even the ISF never had one of those!

Early cars had a DVD based SatNav system and later circa 09 had a SD card based system but your phone with Google Maps will win everytime anyway!

and +1 on avoiding the manual version ( obscene road tax) and the DERV (220d) which will have you posting in the "Engine & Transmission" section some time!

Avoid the diesel.  Avoid the manual.

Best option is the IS 250 automatic petrol.  Whether you want all the fancy bells and whistles....sat nav screen , Mark Levinsen stereo, etc is up to you.  There are various cosmetic differences as the model gets younger.  Keep an eye on the road tax....it can he heafy if you choose the wrong model.  Probably woth keeping an eye on the market within a particular price range and see what comes up.

A lot of indies equipment (Snap-on,  Autel, etc) wont show the full scope of certain makes and models.  In my experience BMW, Merc and VW wouldn't show certain sensors and had to go to specialists who pay for the privilege of being plugged into the makers system

This would be an issue..I'm going to try an independent garage to check out some other minor issues and see if they manage to catch a transmission issue.

  9. 55 minutes ago, The-Acre said:

Maybe you need to have a diagnostic check which should show a transmission fault, but you may need to go to a main dealer to get it checked properly, or at least a Toyota dealer.

Yeah I'm planning to get it checked out soon but unfortunately don't have any independent lexus specialists near me.

Why did you suggest a main dealer instead of an independent garage?

My 2005 GS300 certainly wasn't limited to that private road speed because I tried it in Germany.  I know this sounds silly but when you say the revs were redlined, is it possible you dropped the shifter into a lower gear without realising it?  Unless the transmission was slipping, which I guess it can do at high speed as well as low.

It was in D. I also tried to put it into the S and shifted up but that did nothing. It did seem like it might be in gear 5 but I don't have any way of knowing that?
