  1. i bought mine about a month ago from a garage (not main dealer). Find as many faults as you can and mention it to the seller. Mine was up for £10995 ('99 se navigator with 55k on the clock) which I knew was probably the upper limit for it, but I haggled! I had a thorough look over the car, and noticed both rear tyres were on the limit, so I got him to replace them, the front pads were worn so I got him to replace them. There was a small stonechip on the sill that had caused a bit of rust, so he said he would touch it up, turned out he gave it a complete blowover! so was happy with that. Also got new MOT and service. I knocked £500 off the price of the car. And this was before the issue with the satnav. The satnav wasnt working, he assured me it was a dodgy disc and would be replaced by sale time. It wasnt the disc, it was something else (currently being looked at by a LOC Gold Member). And because of this I knocked him down by a further £750, so in total got £1250 off the window price. I was happy with that so went for the deal, and havent regretted it one bit! It's a fabulous car to drive, just looking forward to getting the satnav fixed and it'll be complete! My motto of the story - Find faults and use that to bring down the price! EVERY car has faults! (some are just harder to find than others)
  2. damn, only remembered this was happening sunday aftrenoon. :( bit late by then :( maybe i could come round and drop it over or something?
  3. Well, i've done a 350 mile run in her today from cornwall to high wycombe. Most impressed! Very quiet at speed, smooth, and torquey in 6th gear! one minute your cruising along at 80, the next time you look, oops! And i got out the other end feeling quite refreshed! Got loads of flies on it now though :(
  4. yeah, i'll agree with that. got me wet and i was by the drivers door pressing the damn button! hmmmmm...
  5. bloody hell, thats wicked!! strong spray as well, i got wet! thanks guys! damn i love this car!!!
  6. i did, and nothing happened........... i take it theres something not working there..........
  7. only noticed this today after i picked up my car. my '99 is200se has a headlight washer switch, but no headlight washers! it's just got what i can best describe as a raised blanking off plate. is this standard?
  8. gonna look at my diary, and if i'm free, i'll be there :)
  9. I'm after a specialist autoelectrician who has experience in fixing satnav units. The garage I bought it from says it's the laser, but the guy who repairs them is having trouble finding a replacement laser, personally I just don't think he knows where to look. The software and hardware of the system works fine, the menus to change the display etc come up, the only that it wont do is actually read a disc, i keep getting the error message "insert disc, check door" and yes, there is a disc in there (which is ok, a new disc from lexus has been tried, with the same error message). So it's a laser/disc transport kind of program. Anyone got any recommendations of a company/person who may be able to help in the london/high wycombe area? (I got a 1250quid discount because of this problem, i'm pretty sure i can get it fixed for less than that!!!)
  10. You might have read my thread concerning where do i stand as the sat-nav didnt work. Well I eventaully negoatied a discount of 1250 quid off the price, which I was happy with. The satnav system doesnt work, well, it doesnt read discs, the system works, just wont read a disc, but more of that in another thread i think. Got a nice long run of 300 miles in it tommorrow, so looking forward to seeing how it feels for a long journey, and how tired i feel at the end. Such a nice car inside though, and that straight-6 sound, beautiful, although it's crying out for an airfilter and exhaust! Very happy with my investment at the moment! :D
  11. In relation to my other thread HERE concerning the satnav not working, I was wondering if anyone here knows about the system in detail. The screen and system work ok, it tilts, turns on and off, and you can access the menus concerning colour display, brightness etc. It just doesn't recognise that theres a satnav disc in there. It says "Check disc/insert disc" or something along those lines. They tried a new disc, but it wont recognise that either. Theres an autoelectrician looking at it today, and he said that the disc is spinning, but the laser doesnt seem to be reading it, it spins, cant find the disc and stops spinning. So to me it does sound like a laser problem. Has anyone here had this problem? How much does a new disc-reader unit (*ie, the bit in the boot) cost? Just like to get a bit more info in case they say it cant be fixed.
  12. i'm gonna stand my ground on this one. I've looked on autotrader and I can get other is200's with satnav, low mileage for around the same price, and cheaper. i'll see what he comes up with, lets hope the autoelectrician knows his stuff!
  13. The garage who is selling me the lexus went to Lexus plymouth today to pick up an up-to-date disc for the satnav system. (The current one does not work, one of the conditions of the sale was that he gets the satnav system working, he spoke to lexus on this and they said it's probably just the disc needs replacing). He's just rung me and informed me that they tried a new disc in the satnav system, but it still wasnt working. They have no diagnostics system they can plug in, so it's basically repair or replace. I put down deposit on the car at the beginning of the week. I've told him that I want the sat-nav system working when I come to collect it. So he's agreed to get an auto-electrician to look at it. He offered me a price reduction, although we didnt discuss figures, and I really want it with the satnav system working. What i want to know is: Does he have a legal right to refund me my deposit and decide not to sell me the car? Do I have a legal right to that car, at the price we agreed? Or can he back out because he doesnt want to pay the cost of repair/replace? Basically, I want that car, at that price, with a working satnav system. I dont care if he has to install a complete new unit, thats not my problem. Any legally aware people on this site?? If i did decide to accept a reduction in price, how much is fair? The car i'm about to buy (if the satnav works) is a 99 se, 55k on the clock for 10500. thanks
  14. what is jae? is there a thread somewhere about it? (lol, cant even figure out what jae stands for)
  15. I just want it NOW!!!!!!! :D Seriously though, looking forward to learning about the lexus, and i'll have to pop along to some meets and get some ideas :)
  16. Put my deposit down for my first lexus, it's a '99 IS200 se complete with satnav. Should be picking it up at the end of the week. Paid 10.5k for it, it's got 55k on the clock, and the dealer is going to put 4 new tyres on it, new pads all round, new satnav disc, the 60k service, new mot and a valet. And a competitive finance deal. Didn't think I done too bad, I was happy paying it anyway. Have I got an alright deal? Looking forward to driving this thing and modifying it. (current car is a modified mondeo, so going up market a bit here!) ;)
