Is it always the nearside light/wing they go for?

Just wondering where to site my CS gas canister ring pull 😉

    Yes it is.

I think a high Voltage discharge unit would probably be better. That way you will have time to catch the thief and chop his hand (and other bits) off.

That said you will likely be arrested and be the one in the wrong! Wokism gone mad!

Just found out there is a free of charge update from Lexus to fit 2 protection plates to protect the source of attack.

Mine is booked in to have these fitted............suggest you contact your local dealer to demand they carry out this mod to your car............there is a TSB for this.

Thanks Neil but as per my original post, I had these plates fitted back in July 2023.

Unfortunately they will not stop scumbags damaging the car anyway before they realise they cannot get to the cables.

  3. Having started this thread a year ago, one year on and almost to the day there has been another attempt at stealing my RX!

I had the metal plates fitted last year and I had a very visible steering lock (Stoplock Pro Elite) on the car but this did not stop the scumbags from trying again.

My security lights came on which made them run away like the rats that they are but not before trying to pull off the bumper and the wheel rim plastic.

Lexus were very accommodating and managed to put everything back in place very quickly.

Unfortunately this is just something we are going to have to live with. They will not be able to steal the car but it will not stop them damaging it.

I think Saudi Arabia have got it right by chopping off the hands of these scumbags.

Any chance sharing your reply on here?  I'm in the process of getting a new RX and am a little concerned about what I've been hearing.

Would anyone know if anything can be done as part of the build process or is it all an after job?

If you are getting a brand new RX, I believe this issue should not concern you as they seem to have moved things around and the Can Bus vulnerability no longer exists on the new models.

I stand to be corrected from anyone who knows otherwise.

I purchased a rx450h Dec 2019 two weeks ago - love the car 🙂. Also having problems with subscriptions on the App. E.g remote start. Changed all user setting and see the car but remote features unavailable. Spoke to Lexus Ireland whom transfered the issue the Toyota Europe. The dealer advised that lexus are experiencing technical issues. Waiting on an update from lexus Screenshot_20230717_052829_LexusLink.thumb.jpg.f302c84f33b2bee73d7a17de0419b2ef.jpg

I do not believe features like remote start are available on your car. I have the same 2020 model and it is not available.

Colin, I asked customer relations specifically and they said my 21 RX has sleeping keys.  So perhaps it was introduced without fanfare? Or perhaps customer relations are not clear about the technology?

The other option is to turn off keyless entry from the car settings in the vehicle.

The car will no longer look for a signal from the key. Unfortunately this will also mean that you have to lock/unlock the car by pressing the button on the remote and having the remote touch the start button in order to start the car.

This will solve one problem but will cause you inconvenience in the process. You will just have to decide which is more important.

  7. My car is currently at Lexus having the plate fitted.

It has taken a while but it seems that things are moving quickly now. The dealer did show me the plate and how it supposedly works as he also had another one for another customer.

It should certainly stop the car getting stolen using the can bus method but unfortunately the thieves are still likely to cause the damage trying to access the cables before they realise they cannot.

    Better than nothing, I guess.......

I still think some razor wire under the wheel arch would do wonders to any hand trying to access the cables!

  8. I have been using Lexus Link since purchasing my car without any issues.

However suddenly it seems to have stopped on 13/06 and now it is totally useless. Find my car shows the car location at 6:58pm on 13/06/2023 and will no longer update.

I checked the settings and everything seems connected and activated.

Any help would be very much appreciated until I get a chance to go to my local Lexus dealer, but not sure they will be able to resolve it.

    Hi All,

I just installed battery cut off relay.

when you lock your car you then press the provided remote to off.

your car battery will be unplugged like total dead and in this case the relay theft or canbus theft will not work and it’s dead end.

It’s available on eBay - Amazon - AliExpress

Wireless Remote Control Disconnect Relay Integrated 12V Cut Off Isolator Master Switches 200A 120A Universal Battery Switch

Probably not the best of ideas!

Everything else in the car including settings will probably also be reset. Besides, the scumbags will still cause all the damage before realising they cannot steal the car.

I'll stick with my steering lock until Lexus come up with something.

Same thing happened to me in North London at midnight 2 days ago. Luckily(?) car alarm went off, my son saw 3 men walking away. Front wing panel and wheelarch trim were pulled out at the passenger side and headlight electronic cable was dangling out side of car.

Lexus clicked everything back into place but the wheel arch is a bit mid-shaped.
dealer told me this cam bus method of breaking in is quite common. They knew all about it and asked me if headlight cable was out when I first told them that the wing had been pulled out. They mentioned a few cases from previous couple of weeks.

They also said they were hoping for a recall for a software upgrade.

I definitely think Lexus have to do something. In meantime I’ll continue to use the steering lock (I had it on the night of the theft but not sure if the thieves did not see it or were confident they could overcome it. It’s a big yellow Elite STOPLOCK). Have also started parking it right up against my drive wall to make it difficult for thieves to pull out the front wing.

Hurry up Lexus and fix this security issue!

That is pretty much what happened to mine. Also North London but they did not cause as much damage because I managed to catch the F***er in the process.

I am pleased your car was not stolen either.

A blanking plate, which is what Lexus are apparently working on, would at least stop them getting into the wheel arch. I don't think they are able to do a software update due to the way the various busses are set up. Besides the scum bags will still cause all the damage before realising that their equipment may not work.

Let's hope something is done soon.

Just had an email from Lexus Customer Services advising that they have successfully tested the blanking plates they mentioned in their earlier reply to me and were in the process of obtaining some before  working out how to roll out fitting them. So it seems they are on the case!

    Watch this space.

Hi Graham, I was just wondering whether you have heard any more from Lexus?

I did inform my Lexus centre about this but it was a surprise to them! They did not know anything about this.
