Rob  CCTV  On your drive or wherever you park your car particularly at night 24/7 Which alerts you on your mobile phone that someone is near your car is the Answer...Believe me I KNOW whenever somebody is within the close proximity of my Car !!  When parking during daylight at say car parks Be observant and watch for anything remotely suspicious and put on a steering wheel lock ( I use a Milenco which is ONE of the best As a Deterrant.. Only Other deterrant  When out is Keep Croccy ( The Crocodile ) In The back of your car.. But Think Seriously About CCTV

Thanks Ron. I do have CCTV but his face was fully covered and he did not seem to care. Perhaps putting razor wire under the wheel arches and electrifying the car with 50,000 volts might give the next one a bit of a shock! The problem is I am the one that will be arrested for harming a scumbag.

  2. A couple of weeks ago someone tried to steal my RX using the wheel arch CAN BUS method. I was extremely lucky that I saw the thief and he ran off before completing the job, but not before managing to disconnect the cables.

Lexus were extremely helpful and spent more that 30 minutes reconnecting everything and did not even charge me.

It is absolutely ridiculous that this is such a simple way of stealing cars and surely something like a software upgrade could solve the issue. Maybe not?

I have now taken to using a steering lock which I hope can act as a visual deterrent. I have also disabled keyless entry in the car (not sure if this makes any difference) and put the keys in a Faraday pouch at home.

You have all these conveniences in the car that you pay for, only to have to disable them and make everything more inconvenient.

    There must be a solution..............

    Hi Paul,

I wish you well and speedy recovery.

I have reported the issue to Lexus a few weeks ago and got a very nice reply saying that they are aware of the situation and are trying to work on a software update but that I shouldn't hold my breath!

I am also aware of the issue with Compilation albums so I do not have any compilation albums on the USB but I created an MP3 DVD which can hold lots of compilation albums (depending on how many tracks are on each) and play them that way. No issues with track names, numbers or order of play but no voice control.

I may try a different USB stick as a final attempt before resigning myself to giving up on voice control alltogether.

    Hi Paul,

A different USB made absolutely no difference.

That said and 13 days after the USB was connected, voice control has returned. Not perfect by any means but it seems to be semi working. How long for, I know not.

    Hi Rob,

Ok.   Thats a shame.  Given the changelogs I thought an update might help but as you say, you are already on the latest avaiable releases.  I understand there is an audio 1140 on some newly delivered vehicles but this is not yet available on lexus tech or to dealers for upgrades on existing ones.  I also have no idea what it may fix, but at least it does suggest an update my be imminent.

Regarding your wifi connection: are you using the internet capability on your phone using a wifi hotspot on the phone or are you using internet over bluetooth tethering?  Both are possible.  You may wish to swap and try the other option and see if it works better.

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

It doesn't seem to make a difference. That said the phone seems to be working OK now so I will just leave it.

FYI the voice control on the USB is still not working. I am leaving that alone as well.

Looking forward to a new update (if any) as long as it doesn't break something else!

Rob, which version of DCU software are you running?

Go to settings, general, s/w update and it will tell you.  (I think that's correct)...  It will be listed as "Audio version".  If you version is less than 1051 I think an update  *may* fix it (quite a number of iphone related issues were fixed in 1051).

Are you using a wifi hotspot or doing the internet connection share to the car from the phone over the BT?

    Paul

    Paul,

The audio software version is 1138 and the Navigation software is version 1150. These are the latest versions.

I am not using the car's WIFI hotspot but accessing the internet by tethering to the phone..

That said I was using the Bluetooth for phone calls with no issues for the last couple of days! I guess it is just random with no rhyme or reason, just like the other issues with the entertainment system.

    Rob,

I should have also said - you may find that at some point it could randomly start to work.  For me, occasionally a disk will get indexed into the voice commands after a few days.  Sometimes never.

I had also thought it could simply be that it takes time to perform the indexing, but on my wife's 2015 NX it does it in a minute or two, and before it has indexed, if you try to use the voice commands it says " voice commands not available at this time" I think.  Then a minute later it all works.

I hope at some point your car will reindex this for you so it works again before we (hopefully) get a software fix.

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Thanks Paul.

I found this previously where it doesn't work for a week or so and then suddenly it works fine. Once it works it just continues working.

I will update you in a week or two!

The other issue I have (it is a known issue and there is nothing that can be done at the moment), I have had to rename all the songs with their number in the name. Something like "001 - The Beatles - Something". This is the only way that they play in the order they should. However because of this one cannot use voice recognition to play a specific song, unless you know the whole name including numbers!

If the songs are left with their own names then they all play alphabetically. I never had this issue in my 2013 GS.

  8. Just by way of an update, I took out the USB and added more music. When plugged back in the voice recognition worked straight away but it would not recognise any of the new music. The music was there and could be accessed manually from the screen!

Perhaps the RX voice control was still working off an old database file which is why it did not recognise the new music. So I decided to erase the USB and add all the music back in the hope that the RX would rebuild a new database file.

All the music is now available manually but when I try the voice control I get the good old "Media device not selected"!

Maybe it needs a long time to rebuild the database for voice recognition as I have 34Gb of music on the USB.

I will update if anything changes..........

Robert - can I just check - I assume the mp3s will play from both ports, but the voice commands only seem to work from one port?  Is that right?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Yes. The music plays regardless of which port I use but the voice control seems to work only in the top one.

Or as you said, the stars must have been aligned!

I will try and add more music and plug back in to see if it continues working.

    6. Intermittent behaviour in voice command system (goes away on infotainment reboot)

This got much much worse since the Feb 2021 update was applied and now no longer works at all.  The voice commands do work for everything apart from "play album" etc for accessing memory stick music.  The same usb stick works totally fine in my 2015 NX, works fine in a 2015 IS, fine in a new UX and  does not work in a 2021 NX and another 2021 RX I have tried it in at the dealer.  It may well be that if you have not got the Feb 21 software update yet (which I got because it fixed the track pad issue), you may not have seen this issue with voice command music playback.  Banji - do you ever use voice commands for playing music off a usb stick?  If so, be cautious about being updated to the Feb 21 software at your next service...  This issue is not totally confirmed yet, and I will post an update as soon as I have more concrete information.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This may sound stupid but I have had the same issue with my 2020 RX. However I have found that if the USB is plugged into the top USB socket under the armrest then voice command seems to work but if connected to the bottom one then it doesn't!

It does not make sense but so far working for me.

I have a 2020 and tried to emulate your fault.  It did not behave as you stated.

Does this happen when connected with cable on carplay.  it routes the audio through cable there.  If it still happens when cabled would suggest a phone reset before heading to dealer to check on infotainment software.

No. I do not have an issue when using Carplay.

The problem is when I am just using Bluetooth and making a call through the normal lexus phone pairing.

  12. This is a very strange issue that I hope someone can help me with.

Using my Iphone connected via Bluetooth to make calls works fine, however if I use Lexus Connected services for anything at all I can no longer make calls after that!

The call connects as usual but neither I nor the receiving party can hear anything but more importantly the whole systems jams and I cannot end the call or do anything else with the entertainment system until I manually turn off the Hot Spot on my phone.

Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?

    Thanks.
