Hi all
Right, this is the update
I took the car to local dealership. The dealer measured the car paint thickness and have concluded that the bonnet was repainted either by the previous owner or the dealer I bought the car from. Bear in mind I bought the car in 2018 when it was just two years old so I would have expected to have been informed of this at the time of purchase but I wasn’t.
I have contacted the selling dealer as well and their view is that they never repaint cars that are for sale as it’s not cost effective for them to do so and if it was repainted by the previous owner then they wouldn’t have known about it when it was returned back to me (I believe it was on PCP by the first owner). None the less the selling dealer is going to dig into the paperwork to see what records they have for the car. I am not finding the dealer responsive and I suspect they won’t want to take any accountability for selling a fairly new car with a repainted bonnet.
I have taken it to local Body Shop and they have quoted £260 to repaint the bonnet and they reckon they can get a good match with paint that’s around on the panels etc.
Lexus have estimated a cost of £800-£1000 to repaint the bonnet, pillars and side panels as they believe that to get a good match you’d have to paint panels around the bonnet.
I am not sure what I will do so will hold on for the time being in doing anything
thanks all for your input and comments
