  1. That is a breath of fresh air for my ears because going from "new gearbox" to "new car" and into an approximate 500 to 600 quid for the main problem plus a few other replacements is indeed music at this point. I knew i would have to put some money over for a used privately sold vehicle but all this has already shot up the cost by a good margin. If that is all it takes to get the car going trouble free for another 50K miles as you say (temporary my *****, that's years worth of it) then so be it. Just for keeping it under perspective. 2600 for the vehicle, new tyres all round for 380, full headlight restoration 85, health check 50 (which also says brake pads replacement for the next MOT/service which will cost another pretty penny) and now this which means that the "cheap" private car cost me just as much as anything from a normal seller that would also include a warranty of some sort. Edit: any recommendations on garages? Does any garage able to do the ATF and solenoid work?
  2. Thank you for the help. I did a post in the automatic transmission topic with the codes that popped up in the diagnostic of an independent garage. Obviously being a dealership with a workshop their "recommended" route is a brand new transmission at nearly 6K so obviously I am looking at alternatives. Thank you for real.
  3. Sorry for high jacking into the topic as i have just been "offered" a brand new transmission from Lexus for about 6K pounds (no joke) to fix the following issues resulting to the CHECK VSC light - engine light - TSC off light combo. Main issue is the C1201 code and under that i have a slew of other codes regarding shift pressure control solenoids C and D. These have the below codes: 1. P0761 2. P0781 3. P2714 Before i lose my cool for the idiot that i am that bought the car privately without doing a diagnostic first (based on car history) is there anything to be done in a garage or some transmission workshop to rectify the problem without selling my kidney for it? Any experiences? Advisories? Thank you in advance for anyone's time.
  4. OK i have some initial worrying news about solenoids in the transmission and that there may be a need for a new transmission. This horrified me as the cost of of a new transmission may very well exceed the price i have paid for the car in the first place. The technician has performed a software update on the vehicle as it was due for quite a while and is driving it around now but worst case scenario is a new transmission. Is this really all that can be done? I have read about transmission fluid changes that may very well clear all such issues but in all honesty i am sitting at burning coals right now. Does anyone have experience if they deliberately leave out things to say or if you specifically have to ask for things to be done before we go into this transmission replacement story?
  5. Thank you very much! If it turns out indeed to be the battery i will keep it as a reference. Because my model is out of warranty the check itself will cost 144 quid but should i decide to fix the issue with Lexus then this amount will pay into whatever quote they present to me. In short, whatever happens the 144 pounds are already gone.
  6. Was at the exact position with you a few weeks ago. Reading around i personally went for the goodyear F1 eagle asymmetric 5. I feel performance is great with great information on where each wheel is and what they are doing. Comfort is nice, noise is acceptable and fuel economy is good. Whatever you buy though make sure to shop around online and not in a shop as i did for the reason that there are many online offers happening for 2 or 4 tyres. Whatever you decide on also always keep to the premium brands. Avoid the second and third class brands for your IS250.
  7. Doh, i did the exact opposite 😂. I am here now waiting for the check and quote to come from the workshop. I will not assume a price of a new battery from Lexus because i will likely lose my hair.
  8. I tried it on my own. Didn't seem to do anything if i even did it right. I had to book an appointment with Lexus because i can't do limp mode any longer. One thing Halfords said to me is that the battery is at 40% health and that can also create all sorts of electrical little issues like that but obviously they can't guarantee it is the main issue though it likely is. At any rate i will know tomorrow after the (always expensive) check and get a quote from Lexus for whatever they come up with. I will report back.
  9. Hi all. I just got the baby but i have this issue that popped up right now after a Tyre change. I took it back to Halfords to clear the light and reset the zero point on it but i have no idea how they did it and the car worked for about 10 minutes before it went limp mode and the VSC +engine light on yet again and back to safe/limp mode. Took it to an independent garage for a diagnostic check and it says that it has a C1201 - Engine/EV control system mulfunction along other codes that are directly affected by this but nothing concrete. The fuses are fine, the sensors pick up the speed fine, the car starts fine, everything seems normal. I saw a video on YouTube regarding this issue and you can do it with a paper clip yourself as long as the car is a completely flat surface with the wheels fully straight but i didn't do that as i am afraid to do it on my own. Does anyone ever had something similar on their IS 250? I have a wide array of things i have been reading regarding the issue from spark plugs to weird gas taps to going out battery among others. Obviously i have booked myself a check in a Lexus Gatwick specialist but any experience is valuable as a new owner.
  10. Is that the case really? It's too late now though but i will keep it as a reference when it's time to change if i still have it by then. By the way, this looks gorgeous. I see you have replaced the headlights as well.
  11. Thank you for the information on that. If that is the case then i am very much stuck on what i can chose. I am not having any problems with refurbishing the current wheels and adding my own colour scheme on it. I prefer the 17' due to better comfort and cost management. I just thought on adding something to make it look more sporty but i guess it looks sporty enough. Being my daily i don't want to sacrifice comfort and potentially fuel economy for bigger 18' wheels.
  12. Hello all New owner of an is250 petrol automatic 2007 model. I bought this baby with quite high milage (151K) but the condition was really good. Obviously it needs some new stuff to bring it up to snuff. Let's get to it. I have already put on a fresh full set of Goodyear F1 asymmetric 5 and i want to also get some after market beauty rims to replace the horrible Lexus ones that also oxidized and peeled off. Do i have to look for anything in particular or can i fit anything on it? Do i stay away from certain brands or designs that don't hold rigidness of the frame or anything of the sort? I have set my eyes on a couple of DOTZ designs.
  13. Thank you Roy It's my first car in the UK as i have only recently started living here. In my country i was driving (and still do to be honest) a Toyota Corolla 2000 model. The reason i decided to get the IS250 over anything else was of course the name and the reliability factor as well as having a nice set of luxury extras (like heated seats) but also the price difference between the other candidates. Obviously the IS250 was more expensive to buy by a good 30-50% but that in numbers that amounts to something like 500-1000 quid. A respectable amount but i know i got loads more worth of car than this amount would get me otherwise. Why buy a "normal" car when the cost of insurance and road tax is practically the same? Getting a Yaris was very close to these costs so I thought it wasn't really worth it. Then it's the use. About 25 miles a day, most of them motorway miles so i wanted a relaxed and easy drive. As a single man the IS250 fits my lifestyle way better than most other offers without breaking the bank in meintenance. Even if it's thirsty for today's standards with the hybrids and all i still think it has respectable consumption. So far with mixed use i average about 33Mpg according to the trip computer. At any rate pictures will come in as i upgrade her looks by restoring the fogged headlights and buying a new set of wheels with aftermarket ones.
  14. By mistake while i am searching for a new set of wheels-rims to replace the normal ones 😂
  15. Hello to all. I recently became an owner of a Lexus Is250 SE+ 2007 automatic model that i got from a private seller. Obviously becoming a part of the owners club was a natural step for me. The car is in great condition but needs a few things to make it truly seem like new. I will make the appropriate post in the appropriate place! At any rate it's great to be part of the community.
