Would you mind sharing a comparison?

The 911  has a feel about it better than any car I have driven, in the sense of feeling the road and confidence on exactly what the car can and will do without being a rock hard uncomfortable ride like an Audi, It just feels right.

The LC 500 does not have anything like that sort of feel but it is not that sort of car, it’s strength is it just cruise’s along as easy and relaxing as you want to make it but it has a great sound at start up which the neighbours will hear the but not be to annoyed by, if you drive along steadily it’s not too noisy but put it in sport and you can have all the noise you need. It doesn’t have that instant acceleration of the Porsche, it takes a moment to get moving, but once your on the revs it just keeps pulling and any car under 5 seconds nowadays is more than you can use, my friend and next door neighbour has a new 911 turbo S and he can’t go any faster than me around town all of the sports/super cars nowadays you plant your foot to the floor and 2 seconds later your braking. But the main feature of the car is it’s looks and the interior, I never felt special sitting in the Porsche, you do feel it in the Lexus and you never stop looking back at it when you walk away. 911 are everywhere there are 3 in the apartment block where I live (part of the reason I didn’t get another one) , with the LC you are not seeing them everywhere ( I haven’t seen another one on the road yet) and all the looks (friendly looks and interest). It just puts a smile on my face every time I walk out to it . I did get that with the Vantage I used to have (interior not on same planet) but twice the price and the service costs and warranty will save you an absolute fortune.

Well that’s my Tuppennys worth.(I do waffle on)

    Both actually.

Same transmission used here and also the Lexus LS 350 and 500:

The LC 500h transmission is in the Lexus LS 500h

The front wheel drive 8 speed transmission that was developed alongside the rear wheel drive 10 speed used in the LC is used in the US RAV4, Camry, Highlander etc.

I had better pen a stern letter to the editor of the Lexus magazine then😃

That's about as unbiased as RT 🤯

Is it possible to find an unbiased news station, I think not

Watch / read a left, right and centre and try to mangle them all together in your mind. Good luck

  5. from the Lexus UK site but May be out of date now

Power is directed to the rear wheels using a new 10-speed automatic transmission – the first of its kind to be featured in luxury car – with shift times that rival a dual-clutch transmission. The unit is smaller and lighter than some current eight-speed transmissions. The closely spaced gears provide a wide shifting bandwith, providing an ideal gear for all driving conditions. The transmission is matched to a new electric control system with software that helps anticipate the driver’s inputs by monitoring acceleration, braking and lateral G-forces.

The gearbox is used in multiple vehicles, including certain Toyota Land Cruiser models, and others use a variant in the same family so the development costs aren't really associated with the LC. Plus Aisin, who make the transmission, would use some of the R&D from this transmission and use in designs they sell to other manufacturers such as Porsche.

    Hi Colin

I think you know much more than me, but are you saying that the 10 speed box that is in the LC is in another vehicle, or do you mean that some parts of the design are used?

All those development and design costs are shared across the whole range of models. Might not be immediately implemented but the knowledge gained will be used in many, many different products.

Whilst I appreciate that some of the cost are shared through the range, it is hard to believe those tiny headlights and that 10 speed gearbox are going to feat in many models (though I may be wrong) and  the interior is so bespoke that I would be surprised if Lexus- Toyota  benefited hugely in development, but it may have done in association.

robusta coffee beans or not, ... in the freebie Main Dealer and others " freebie " coffees globally

....... far too complex a Q to answer I'm afraid, not even the accountants will know, well, especially them coz they really often don't have a clue as to the true meaning of many of the figures thay conjure up  .....  ask any accountant, he will tell you the truth in that !

    Malc

I realise there are many accountancy tricks

But when you read about the time that was spent by master craftsmen and top designers on door handles, steering wheels, exhaust note, specially designed headlights (apparently the smallest ever) etc etc etc

and the low number of sales to me the price per unit must be astronomical.

  9. I have been wondering for a while what the true cost of the LC 500 is

when you look at the numbers being sold and the amount of time and effort that went in to the development of the vehicle

With the bespoke gearbox and the amount of detail of design. They must be losing a lot of money on each vehicle.

I know that it is a Halo car for them as a show piece but it would be nice to know what the true price should be.

    if anyone knows ?

Thanks winston  for at least attempting an answer but in a LC coupe my son won’t go behind me when driving- his car seat is too big, so instead he goes behind the passenger seat in a fully forward position and my wife goes behind me with my seat raised (her feet underneath) and a bit forward.

My question was whether this arrangement would also work if I had a convertible instead, and I’m not sure it will.

I’ve subsequently discovered LC Convertibles have 4 inches less leg room in the back than coupes, as well as smaller boots, so my dream of moving to a convertible and being able to take my family on trips is probably a non starter.

It’s hard to imagine the back seats being any smaller

I have my seat fully back if there was any less legroom would that make it to cramped for tallish drivers, or have they shortened the rear seats?

  11. It’s the start of a costly exercise, but that is the way it is heading

what we need is nobody to sign up for any of it and that would kill it.

But it won’t happen, look at sky pay per view

I have sky sports and watched  all sporting events (they were free on BBC or ITV before we started pay for SKY) then they started charging for the bigger events with pay per view.

I use sage accounts and payroll at work you could buy the program and use it for years before you had to buy a new version, but now you have to be online and pay monthly so it now cost me more than the price of buying a single program each year. And I only bought a new program every 5 years so it is about a 600-700 % price increase.

I meant to add, when the RAC chap inspected the battery on the previous call out, he said the battery was holding good voltage. Also I noticed when Turing on the ignition today the dash lights were flicking like, also when Turing the key to the very last position the car just kept clicking. Thank you.

    Tom

I would start with a new Battery before you do anything else

it is not a massive cost and if your Battery is that old is probably a good buy for the future, and it will probably solve your problem, or at least eliminate the Battery as faulty and you know it need more in depth investigation
