I was in the exact same position and had four (non-run flat) Nexen Tyres fitted by Leicester Lexus. Admittedly I now carry two cans of tyre gunk.

I, like you thought that I'd made the wrong decision buying the UX but since the tyre change I've had passengers comment on how quiet my car is. The terrible road conditions around the country certainly do not help but I'm sure that all cars are affected the same. Now all I regularly suffer from is the fact that the passenger seat belt clip always bangs on the side of the car as it doesn't lie flat until I reach over and straighten it. Secondly - my tin of Smints rattles when down to the last few in the tin!

i got these for the passenger belt clip

Colour Name: Black | Size Name: 13 inch  for the bottom part of the seat belt

Interesting experience. I recently purchased a 2021 UX 250h premium sport edition with 9200 miles. I have it 6 weeks and will be getting rid of it. This is the nosiest and most uncomfortable car I have owned in 44 years of driving. From what I have read the tyres are a major factor. You can feel every bump in the road. I live in Northern Ireland and our roads are poor but this car exaggerates this. Previous car VW golf 1.4 Tsi and I had it for 6 years was quiet and smooth. My wife’s 6 months old Yaris design is far quieter than the UX. Also the Yaris drive is a lot smoother. Yaris is 1.5 hybrid.  Previously owed 3 avensis, 2 Yaris, Rav. 2 BMWS, 3 Peugeots   I am so disappointed in the UX. I have always associated Lexus with quiet and smooth driving cars. Another reason I purchased was the reliability record of Lexus but this means nothing if the car is dreadful to drive. My test drive was mostly on a short motorway section so very difficult to spot the noise issues.

The UX can be bumpy on bad roads like we have near Gatwick /Crawley, but I have yet to find ANY car that was better on our roads

Saga has just quoted me £1000 which is more than double I am paying at the moment with Lexus insurance £450

so be careful if you're due like me to renew. I haven't yet had my renewal come through from Lexus but will let you know when it does.

I should add I have the maximum NCD and 50 years of clean driving

Good news. The quote from Lexus was for £515 so just a small increase from last year 😃

  4. Just a small update on my car that hit this pothole. The car still drives as if nothing has happened, so I guess I got very lucky. Charlwood road, where this happened at Gatwick, is still not good in many places near where the main pothole I hit so do drive with caution on this road and avoid if possible at night

i should also add that all the side roads in many parts of Crawley are poor so take care at night

Fourbanks, thanks, have you noticed much difference in road noise ?

    Hi Ian 🙂

They seam very quiet on motorways and good roads that are tarmacked. Locally where i live the roads aren't great, but the noise level is still very good I find

on a safety level, they are by far the very best tyres you can get if my recent pothole experience is anything to go by, in which the police attended. They didn't even drop a bar of air pressure incredible

I know what you mean thou, and you may have to give up the run flats if you won't excellent low noise levels

  7. If warnings are important to you, both with visual and sound alerts so you can see and hear 100% of what's going on around you, then the Lexus is very poor.

Only a Mazda is first class in this department, and would never make any errors under normal circumstances or receive speeding / red traffic alerts tickets as the sound and visuals are top-notch clearly displayed with full dialogue speech on the approach

I ran mine at a higher pressure until I swapped the run-flats for ordinary tyres for that very reason. Tyre noise significantly reduced which makes sense as there would be less contact with the tarmac, I assume!

I got a large nail in my run flat and only lost a few bars over a week, so I'm keeping mine

Jobs aplenty here nowadays …… much industry and daily commute INwards to Sheppey from outlying mainland areas ……. Indeed the majority of employees, 400+ at our Aldi distribution centre are daily inward migrants I believe …… bit like Gibraltar with inward daily migration for the jobs on offer ……. If you’ve ever seen the Qs of workers crossing the border from mainland Spain every day 🤔 ……. and then going back home in the evening 👌

Roads roads and more roads here now  …….. potholes aplenty for sure

    Malc

    That sure sounds like Gibraltar.

They need to get their act together with the potholes, i look after 2 main roads here at Gatwick with my weekly inspections and as i said above that to hit this pothole of which just a couple of days earlier i had reported i just can't understand.

i guess with my wife and i chatting, i forgot that we were coming up to this pothole. i saw it very late and if it hadn't been for a car coming the other way could have swerved and missed it

we had a very bad pile up here on Friday in the rush hour on the m23 you have probably heard about that 15 cars involved

Changed and changing immeasurably …… with projected zillions of new homes with roads to match and de-supamkts …….. indeed a relatively newish Morrisons and within half mile a brand new Aldi AND Lidl being built …….. housing galore a’coming methinks …….. new roads, cones by the miles and potholes from all those heavy trucks earth shifting forever …… potholes pot’oles and more putoles……. traffic calming for sure …….. blessed by the Queenborough Town Quay for me ……… so where can I possibly go motoring to excess in my 4ltr V8 bliss-machines …… 20mph zone here toooooo ….. Gawd ‘elp us 🤣

    Malc

From what i remember, the whole place in 1980 was pretty bad, so it all needed a radical plan to get it up to date. i guess there are no jobs there still. In the summer, the odd thing, i distinctly remember being the only person on the beach and in the slot machine arcades playing pinball. i still play pinball today over in the VPF forum and on the steam platform with Zen studios

No old roads under bridges now in sheerness …….. there were trams in olden times too I’ve been reading ……. near where I now live on the delightful Isle of Sheppey ……. AND plenty of current potholes for sure 🥵

I treat them as traffic calming measures …… along with the never ending road works and zillions of cones …… simply a pain in the proverbial

    Malc

My aunt use to live in invicta road with the small alleyways at the back. She just had gas lighting in those days before she died in 1980 100 years old

i haven't been back since, so am not sure as to how things have changed

    When does a “ pothole “ become a sinkhole 🤔

    Malc

It could well be Malcolm have further developed into a sinkhole. I went past there yesterday, but because of the heavy rain I couldn't make out the extent of what's happened

as i said above, my car has been inspected for free by my Lexus dealer, and it appears to be OK, but we will not for certain until the MOT in July 2025 comes around when the wheels will get a thorough inspection along with all the other parts that get inspected

I'm keeping the car and now need to put this behind me.

It's not the first time i've been involved in a heavy collision, the last one was in 1969 with my dad on a double-decker bus in sheerness going under a low bridge late at night in November with heavy rain ripping the roof off and we in the front seats upstairs. My dad just saw what was about to happen and got hold of me and head first through me down the stairs.

Same noise as the pothole with violent shaking so yes it's not easy for me at this time but could have been worse with the car flipping over

Iv'e just hit a massive pothole here at Gatwick. The police are attending, but my wife and I are really shaken by this. It's over 2 meters in size and 6 inches deep, the car took a very hard blow. I've put into the council a report of what's happened in case of any damage. As for the car itself, it seems to be OK, but by the sound of what happened I'm sure some damage must have taken place. What's best now to proceed, do you think. The local Lexus dealer will charge around £150 for a quick look i'm sure

The pothole in question has further developed into a major pothole, with a 100-meter section of Charlwood road at Gatwick being now closed off and operated by traffic lights

  14. It's really got bad the past few years. I was lucky the car didn't roll over, as that's what the police expected. So if anyone is about to purchase a car, I would say the UX every time and forget about small details that you don't like. Life's too short to get too wrapped up in what's wrong

had i been in another type of car, things may have been well different and the car would have rolled over. We will never know

my neighbours' daughter Renault rolled over in her pothole experience and her mum has lost the wheel twice the past few months in the wet in her Renault

  15. Well my friends I have just got back from seeing Tim master tec at Lexus Gatwick who has inspected the car and all looks normal so a miracle must have happened.

The pothole in question has been coned off so at least i achieved something last night, the prevention of a serious injury or death to a fellow driver but more importantly a motorbike rider who no doubt would have been killed

thanks guys for your support 😊

I believe you need to find out if the pothole has been reported previously - if so then if there is any damage to your car you have a stronger claim against the council. If you can get photos then get those along with some reference for size and depth. As the police are there get their details and maybe a statement from them. Personally I would get Lexus to check the car having explained what happened and have a 4 wheel alignment check done and then see what you need to do to make sure the car is sorted and see how and what you can then claim off the council sending details, photos and police report/details. If the pothole was previously reported and they start denying liability I would think a solicitor may be able to apply more leverage.

I try and report local potholes for just this reason. The council keep saying they do not need repairing but as I've logged them if I or anyone gets damage there is a stronger case.

i only managed to get this photo, but at least it's something. Will call Lexus in the morning. i have filled out a report for the council but don't hold out much hope there, knowing councils as I do from past experiences

that's 6 inches deep, hitting it at 50 mph what i car no blow out, but hidden damage must have been done

I did the same over the Christmas period. Not a lexus but a Merc. Needed two new lower ball joints on the front and a full alignment. I’m still fighting the council, their stance at the mo is that as I can’t prove ownership (V5 is not ownership proof according to them), I can’t claim. My solicitor is now stepping in.

I hope you are both ok. Get home and have a nice hot drink. Deal with Lexus on the morning.

    Thanks arqum good idea 🙂

The odd thing is I look out for this road at Charlwood Gatwick for potholes and keep it up to date with the highways and drive by there at least 3 times a week and all has been good up till tonight. How this sort of damage has happened in such a short space of time since i last drove by on Saturday is scary
