  1. Brilliant idea to have a list of this information on the forum for all to peruse. I paid £600 last year with LV=, but they wrote to me this year to say Lexus RXs weren't worth their while since winning the "second most stolen" award and so LV= refused to quote. Due for renewal on April Fool's Day (just my luck!) I began the search three weeks ago - in line with the Money Saving Expert's view that this was the sweet spot time to seek renewal, Best offer came back from comparison sites at £1,380, and next suggestion was about a grand more. So I popped a call in to Adrian Flux, where a charming chap went out and beat up a few brokers to get me £1,211 fully comp with Axa. Took a deep breath and justified it on the basis that this year I escape the 5-year tax surcharge (well nearly justified it anyway....) Took a serene drive to soothe the rattled nerves & blood pressure is now almost back to normal. Good luck to those still seeking insurance for the coming year.
  2. Certainly no sign of anything untoward round the bumper on mine. I just gave it a thorough wash a few days ago and would have noticed any marks/damage. As I say, a photo o anything you've noted would helpful. Thanks
  3. By the mechanic/fitter, perhaps? I had them fitted a couple of months ago and confess I haven't looked up under the wings to see if anything's amiss. Perhaps I should - has your car been damaged during fitment? If you could post a picture of any damage it would be most helpful so other members could check theirs.
  4. Have finally agreed a renewal for insurance on my RX450hL (68 plate). Was awaiting the deemed 3-week "ideal time" prior to renewal to seek a quote. Filled in MSE's car insurance+ machine looking for fully comp on SDP at 8k miles a year, and it came back with a set of the cheapest three = £1,356 from Saga, £1,586 at Sainsburys & £1,684 with Admiral (all a bit horrid after £600 cost for the previous year). Rest of the list of offerings went airborne, running up to somewhere over £3k! The three "cheapies" each tried the rush-rush by saying their offering had to be accepted within 7 hours. Anyway, decided to give Adrian Flux a buzz - having already had a property covered with them. A kindly gent called Jeff (perhaps Geoff?) spent some time going through the requirements - I explained about having had the security plates fitted some months ago and my use of a Milenco steering lock etc. He did a quick (presumably online) check and saw they were coming up worse than Saga, so he excused himself and went off to badger some underwriters, quite successfully in the event. He came back with £1,221 from Axa, with free legals, plenty of Euro travel etc. - reasonable package. Painful by comparison with last year, but in truth I had been fearing worse in view of all the recent alarming publicity. I trust other folks are also finding their way through this ghastly maze - Good Luck!
  5. A first post on here - though a fairly regular reader on here since joining some 18 months ago. Generally I've been picking up on the excellent guidance from the forum's various luminaries on items on interest. But this insurance racket has me riled, Further to Spock66 above, I've had a similar letter from LV=, although mine said that cars such as my 68-plate RX 450hL Luxury were the thieves' target and so no insurance offer for me for the coming year from LV=. Great pity as they've been providing quite reasonable rates to me for a couple of years now. It's due to run out end-February, so I'm awaiting the alleged "sweet spot" time about three weeks prior to renewal date to start searching. I've had the plates fitted, and use a steering lock as well as "deadening" the key whenever I leave the car, but no tracker as yet. Maybe I'll have to go that route as well.... I'll let you know - and meanwhile Thanks to all you experts for providing a most educational and helpful forum.
