  1. Picked up the car from Jem yesterday. The fault was a lot simpler but dangerous than I imagined. My rear tyre had bulges all along the rim on the inside. This was causing the problem. I was horrified to find that the tyre was shredding inside the rim. I was shown this when the tyre was taken off. The rim was wearing away at the inside of the tyre. The service guy thought that I must have had a low tyre pressure at some point so the rim was rubbing against the tyre. I was really shaken as I drive on the motorway alot and it could have given way at any time. Bought a new tyre threand then. Also had a 90k service at the same time. Could'nt fault the service guy James very polite and friendly. Service costed £136.00. i felt it was reasonable.
  2. Thanks for the replies and link. I did notice the problem started when it started to get cold and wet a couple of weeks ago so there could be something in that. I am taking it to Jem next week for them to have a look at it. The guy on the phone thought it might be the clutch and acoording to him it was a known fault on the earlier models and Lexus issued a recall. Could'nt find any information on the net about this and doubt if Lexus would entertain any claims now.
  3. Spoken to Lexus in Edgeware Road and they say they have had no isnstances of the bushes for the drive train failing on the IS 200. They want to take it in for diagnostic test/rodtest for 65.00 for half an hour. is this about right? My car is a 99 model. Also spoken to Jem in Colindale who said a similar thing regarding the bushes. Anyone had any dealings with Jem. They appear to deal with Japanese cars including inports.
  4. thanks for your rapid response, sorry but I am not mechanically minded. Do you have any idea of costs to get this fixed through a lexus dealer considering the age T99 reg and the mileage. Should i go with a good independent? if so can anyone reccomended a garage in the middlesex/buckinghamsie area
  5. I have experienced a strange problem over the last two weeks. When moving forward from a standstill and accereating gently I get a jerking feeling from the car. What happens is when i move from 2nd to 3rd gear and the rpm is around 2.5 to 3.000 the car judders until i accelerate harder. it disappears at higher revs/speed. I have also noted that if I disengage the traction control it seems to feel a little better but can still be felt. My car has just done 90k and is due for a service next week. Could anyone advise me as to what my be the cause and have to rectify it?

  7. i will keep an eye on it and hope it gets better. glad I did'nt have to get the whole screen replaced by Lexus. thanks again
  8. gave it a fair squirt, but not enough for it to dribble down. Screen does'nt flicker anymore though does take a 2-3 seconds to kick in once it is the upright position. Colour seems to have a reddish tinge to it on the Lexus standby screen. maybe needs adjustment. i have it set to night mode at the moment. Need to play around with it a bit more.
  9. Had another go yesterday and all i can say is it's easy when you know how. Thanks for the help guys. Took it apart gave it a good spray and fingers crossed. Cheers Marke
  10. Guess who was trying to remove the screen by pulling it out of it's housing? Thank *** common sense kicked in. It makes sense now. Lights getting bad so I will have another crack soon. Thanks for sticking with a complete novice and pointing me the right direction. Really appreciate all the help.
  11. I must not be doing something right if the whole job takes 20 mins and I have only been able to remove 2 mounting screws in 2 hours. I get the feeling that some of responses assume a certain level of understanding or previous knowledge of this as I can't for the life of me get the screen to move forward out of the housing. I assume that there is something which needs to be done before it comes out after the screws are removed. Like I said earlier, I really need an idiots guide as I am obviously missing something that everyone else seems to grasped in a heartbeat.
  12. I had another crack at this and still can't get the screen out. I can only assume that a. i am complete thicko b. i have a different type of screen to yours. The screen itself will not pull forward once the two screws are removed. It is still fixed tightly in place. My system is CD based and installed in a 99 model if that helps. As a by product of me trying to remove the sceen, the display no longer flickers for some reason. I don't know how long this will last so i would like a more pernament fix. thanks for all the help so far. Marke
  13. Hi guys have had a chance to have a go at this and have got this far. Please excuse my lack of knowledge/use of technical terms as I am not really technically minded when it comes to cars, but i don't want to make a hash of it. So far i have located two screws underneath a panel which runs just in front of the screen. i removed these two screws but can't locate any clips that look like they should be removed. Are they behind the air vents? i have tried removing them for inspection by prising them away from their housings but they don't appear to pop out. Please could you give me an idiots guide to where I might find these clips which will allow me to get to the ribbon connectors and give them a good squirt of WD40. By the way has anyone had a re occurance of the fault after spraying the contacts? thanks in advance. Marke
  14. A lot of interesting information here. I will have a crack at it myself over the week-end. I will keep my eye out for the fragile clips. Thanks everyone who took the time to reply to my query.
  15. Don't like the sound of lexus charging $$$$$$$$$. That's gonna hurt. Thanks for the reply. Just have to live with it until it does'nt come on at all. Cheers
  16. The Sat-nav screen on my IS200 sport intermittently drops it's display and comes back on again. I still get voice commands, but no display. Used to happen every once in a while, but getting worse now. If I open and close the display a few times it settles down. My car is a 99 model and the system is CD based. I seem to remember long ago reading that it maybe an issue with the connector ribbon to the display but can't be sure. Is this a part I could order from Lexus and do myself or leave well alone and get a dealer to do it?
  17. Thanks guys. You have put my mind at rest. Hope to get it sorted this week. Cheers
  18. Thanks for the information, I will check it out. Anyone know what might be causing noise number 2?
  19. Excuse my ignorance but what at "steel shims" i can find out from the guy who fitted them. i bought the parts and had them fitted. Thanks for the quick response.
  20. 1.Had my front discs and pads changed around 5 weeks ago. Now when I reverse and apply the brakes I hear a "clunk" from the front of the car. Happens nearly all the time, but not when I brake going forwards. Otherwise the brakes appear fine. 2. The other noise is from the front wheels also. After leaving the car parked for a long period of time, say overnight, when I switch on the engine and move the car forward as soon as i turn the wheel i hear a "metalic" noise from the front wheels. The sound disappears almost immediatley when I drive off. Forgive my non-technical terms, but I love my car but don't really have a clue about the oily bits. Any advice most welcome.
