Blimey, it must be impressive if it’s a “massive improvement” in terms of materials. My current RX is superior in terms of quality to any other comparable car I’ve been in, including BMW, Mercedes and Range Rover SUVs.

I will have to go and have a look…what makes it so impressive compared to the current version?

I could only spend a few minutes in it so this was my first impression. If i were to complain I didn’t like the air vent on drivers side as now it s surrounded by glossy black plastic. The storage in the arm rest significantly reduced and so are the door bins. They still didn’t bother to put any lining in the door bins. It s the small details they should work on. But this comes from a very picky person so i m sure most or the people will love it. Centre console and infotainment have very nice materials. Exterior was the one that impressed me the most, i m struggling to think of a better looking SUV atm. I only wish they had the interior quality of a Porche Cayenne. And for those who don’t believe me, just go and sit in both cars 🙂

  2. Didn’t get to sit in a Takumi yet but I m sure it will be great. As I said the materials in the F Sport are definitely next level, I was impressed and I m not easy to please.

If i m being picky i could complain about the air vent (on the driver side) that is now surrounded by glossy black plastic and i m not a big fan of glossy surfaces. The storage in the armrest got significantly smaller and so are the door bins. I love how huge they are on my 2016 RX. They still didn’t bother to put any lining inside them. The cup holders in the back armrest are identical with the ones in the previous generation and nothing to complain as they are very good, just surprised to see that they are still using parts from the previous generation.

This was whatever i could see in the few minutes i sat in it but overall i was struggling to find cheap materials. I m sure you will love your new RX. Let us know once it gets delivered 🙂

  3. Went to Westfield London mall (in Shepherd’s Bush) last weekend and got to sit into the new RX500h and RX450h Premium Plus. None of them had panoramic roof which was a bit disappointing (or maybe it didn’t notice). What wasn’t disappointing was the quality of the interior, I was literally blown away, such a big step up compared with my 2016 Luxury but also compared with the 2022 Takumi I got to test drive a couple of weeks ago.

Exterior wise I wasn t so sure when I first saw it on YouTube but seeing it in flesh I thought it was a masterpiece.

After visiting a few dealerships lately and checking different SUV models from Porche, Range Rover and BMW I honestly believe the new RX is a bargain. (Porche has the best interior materials from all though)

Curios if anyone else got to sit in the new RX what was your first impression.

    Prices

    RX500h F Sport - £74.950 (£79.950 with Takumi pack)

RX450h+ starts at £64.950 and goes up to £79.450 for the Takumi model)

RX350h starts at £59.950 and up to £74.450 for Takumi

PS : Sorry for the bad photos, it was very busy and I was too excited about the car to bother taking better photos.

  4. Just download any app that measures noise levels (decibel x, decibel meter etc.) and let us know. Wanted to do that for some time with my 2016 RX and this is a good reminder so will let you know what i n getting 🙂

But don t forget that wind, tyres and the type of the road you re driving on will influence the results.

One of the few things I could complain about my old 2012 gs450h was the noise i was getting into the cabin. The 2016 gs300h was a good improvement but still not idea. The 2016 RX has double glazed windows so definitely much quieter but i m not blown away honestly. On a positive note it’s a big SUV with 20” wheels so can t ask that much.

I put myself on the waiting list for a test drive with the new RX (probably somewhere in March it will happen) i m really intrigued how much better that is. Got to sit in one (rx500h) at Westfield Mall in London and i can report that it‘s a massive improvement in terms of materials over the ongoing model (that includes the 2022 Takumi I recently test drive)

  5. Are you sure the 2016 is a 450h and not the 300h? Had a 2012 gs450h Premier and at that time i went to test drive a 2017 facelift F Sport at Lexus, both had similar fuel consumption on the dash and both felt as powerful. Apart from improving the steering, tuning a bit the suspension and adding more options as standard the 2016 model didn’t have any improvements.

My next car was a 2016 GS300h which i loved, not as fast but better in every aspect compared with my previous 2012.

Also I haven’t seen any GS450h newer than 2016 in Luxury trim, they either came with Premier or F Sport package.

  6. Seems to be an honest review and I mostly agree with everything he said in regards to what he doesn’t like about it apart from the engine part. I had the 4 cylinder engine in my previous hybrid 2013 IS and 2016 GS, both were pretty smooth and kinda felt nicer to drive in city than both v6 engines i had in my 2012 GS and 2016 RX. Not to talk about the fuel economy, much better with the 4 cylinder. Indeed the 4 cyclinder has a different sound than the v6, thinner, I haven’t measured the decibels to see if they are indeed louder but I doubt. For a world that is wanted to be zero emissions by 2050 giving up on the v6 and v8 engines might be start.

I was about to put an order for the new RX but because I couldn’t see one in flash and drive it i preferred not to. The dealer asked me : “what is there not to like about the latest model?” Well i m a bit more traditional so all those touch screens might not be on anyone’s taste. First they are giving us big displays and take the buttons away and next thing you know we won t even have physical displays, i saw some concept cars that only have huge head up displays so the future of cars might be headed that way.

Just got my Halfords Cigarette Lighter Socket Tyre inflator out of Work Car to check Tyre Pressures and all Four read 40 PSI.

Let Air out of all Four Tyres and pumped them back up to 36 PSI and Tyre Pressures are now reading OK in Car and the Tyre Pressure Warning Light has now gone.

Don't know if Warning Light and no Pressures showing was because they were over inflated ? but did ask Tyre Fitter to put 36 PSI in all Four after fitting new tyres, not 40 PSI !

    Thanks for replies

After changing the tyres i had the same issue, just had to reset the tyre pressure sensors from the menu and after a short while everything went back to normal. 36psi is good although it s more than what Lexus recommends so you might find that the car is a bit stiff. Check what s written on the passenger or driver door side. For 20” they say 2.3 bars which equals to 33.35PSI

Got them from a company called Hometyres.  Opponeo also had some a while ago.

For general day to day commuting and your average suburban school run, shopping etc I have no issue.  I didn't try them on snow or ice as they arrived after the thaw but I have used them in cold weather, 2 degrees and they are ok. I think with any winter tyre you still have to respect the road and drive appropriately for those conditions.  Even top end premium tyres are not for throwing the car around hard bends.

Thanks and you are absolutely right.

  9. Got through this post and I was wondering if you bought a GS yet. Also don t bother about the low mileage and newer year mileage when it comes to these cars. I had a 2012 Premier model for two years, bought with 170k+ miles and sold at 210k+ miles, never asked for anything, only serviced at Lexus every 10k miles and bought a pair of new Michelins. It was a remarkable car, for maximum 15k it think it doesn’t have any competition. Super comfortable, economical and VERY fast when I wanted to. By all means go for one, i don t think they will drop in value as they are not making them anymore.

I guess I knew it couldn't last for ever but am disappointed by the failure of my hybrid pump, sounds exactly the same a Hayne's GS450 did. 2 things have irrated me:

1 No warning, I thought not quite normal some time before the "Check hybrid" message came up (anybody know how you check a hybrid system in lane 2 of the M25?) The car was still running so I called Lexus MK only to be told "don't drive the car" so got it recovered. It seems the problem is made worse by driving it but I suspect the damage was already done by the time a warning came up, seems crazy it doesn't tell you to stop.

2 The car has had 19 Lexus full ( not essential ) services, is still under a service plan, out of warranty only because they would no longer cover it at 7 years of age but Lexus refuse to help with the cost of repair, still trying to make their profit rather than help a loyal customer of 10 years.

So it seems this lovely car is headed for scrap as they want more than their trade in offer just before this problem occurred.

Any thoughts ? oh and it passed the hybrid healthcheck very recently

Will not own another expensive car, just lease now so always under a warranty.

You should have warranty up to 15 years unlimited mileage for the hybrid system as long as you get a PASS on your anual hybrid health certificate. How much they quoted you? You should check with some hybrid specialists as it can be much cheaper.

Leasing a car is great if you have a company and you will have the car as an expense on your annual tax return or…you have passive income and you don t care much. Otherwise think about how much of your hard worked money you will throw on the window each year on interest (especially now) + the depreciation of a new car. Basically you won t even own the car unless you pay a big amount of ££ at the end of the lease contract. Not to mention the mileage restrictions.

If you want to change your car just get a 3-5 years old one with low mileage and you will save a fortune. Lexus offers 10 years warranty for the whole car or 100.000 miles.

  11. It s more difficult to find an older car well maintained so be careful. These cars can last forever but can also cost a fortune if they go wrong. My friend in Spain has an RX400h and it s been amazing, it has over 500.000km. Get one with full Lexus service history but most importantly one that has been loved. Don t buy a car that has been neglected and don t buy the cheapest you can find. What s your budget btw? A 350 with lpg fitted (i someone that was very happy with it) could be an option but I wouldn’t bother, the hybrid is great.
