  1. I wouldn't touch it personally. But as for comments suggesting the Is220d is a pile of rubbish, ive got one (sport model, higher road tax) on an 08 plate since it was 2 years old. ok its has issues around not being on enough long runs - but thats not the cars fault. my bigger issues are with lexus dealers (one in particular) who at 6mths into my ownership, and after paying silly money for a service package, announced i needed a new radiator at £1000 - rad has never been replaced or leaked. was told i needed a new DPF (same dealer) cost £3,500 or more. not been changed, no dash warning lights. at one service they put 2.5 litres too much oil in. needless it has never been back to them since. wheels were redone by them bright silver instead of gun metal grey. yes ive had the key sensor issue recently which was a royal pain in the rear, the boot lock wiring chaffed through (now fixed), and the parking sensor display does random things (that sketal view was awesome while it lasted). but the car has now done 120k miles, body work is good, glass is good, carpets are good, seats are good. headlight covers are yellowing - but for the age of the car? also it has always passed MOT first time. my own experience, and that is all it is, is that the is22od is much maligned. no offence intended. everyone has an opinion.
  2. morning all Ive recently had serious issues around the 'car wont see key' problem, it has been sorted now and ive put it in other threads. in short the solution taken was to replace (by an auto electrician) modules all over the car and have a new (second hand paired to the kit) key. when i got it back i immediately noticed what to me, was an improvement in the parking sensor system in so far as not just beepers and the little car icon in the clocks display, a 'from above' large skeletal drawing of an is220 took over the sat nav screen and each sensor inputted into it, giving a large, clear image of what was going on. Happy days. downside of the repair was the boot would only open via the actual physical key which had to be removed from the fob, the remote button, the dashboard switch and the remote sensor didn't work. no big thing but a royal pain in the proverbial. took it back to auto guy, who diagnosed a broken wire between the boot lid and car body (not related to the ignition thing), fixed it and returned the car on Tuesday. yesterday (my fault, i was driving) i bumped into another car on a car park whilst reversing. my fault i accept that, this isnt about that. when i got home i nearly drove into the wheelie bin while edging forward onto the driveway, sensors beeped, but no longer the 'aerial' image. before the ignition key issue i never had that aerial image. I've asked auto guy if he had updated any software and he said no (I've not mentioned the bump to him, (so he has no paranoia around that, of being blamed etc and I'M not trying to blame him, i'm just curious) . however it is not there now, i've tried all manner of edging towards things in forward and reverse, both in gear, in neutral and cannot replicate the aerial view. I know i didn't dream it, is there a setting anywhere to restore? or is it, weirdly in a Lexus type style, a bye product of a faulty wire elsewhere (i.e the boot lid) Any suggestions gratefully received.
  3. i got a contact number today for a firm which might be able to make one, if they can i'll share their details.
  4. mine was a comedy of farcical errors. to start with the car was on the drive at home, i had booked it in for an MOT anyway and the mot place had ''a good elec we use, but he wont do home visits'' AA refused to recover the car to the pre booked mot because it didnt have an mot. I pointed out to them that when in comes back it will have an mot, and if they recover it it isnt being driven but is going to a pre booked mot 1 mile away from home. they point blank refused, but didnt have an explanation when i asked them if they are such staunch upholders of the law, why did they attend on christmas day to a neighbour who was banned from driving for serious offences and get his car started! their answer was that his car had an mot!! local garage said their tow truck guy had covid. his tow truck mate (truck #2) was broken. first tow truck guy then turned up and wanted to take a scaffolding bar to the steering lock!! no thanks. lexus dealer said 'it sounds like an expensive repair' but didnt offer anything beyond that. recoding guy said he would come out - but since lexus dont lose code he would be taking my money for nothing (at least he was honest) first elec.. what a guy. didnt turn up for first 2 appointments citing family illness. finally turned up randomly, spent hours doing auto elec black magic type mumbo jumbo, left fuse boxes open, bits of wire all over the place, and said he needed a wiring diag. i sourced a diag via Jeep site mate, phoned numpty who said he'd come back at weekend. he didnt. rang him - cant come got covid. week later. ''im stuck in wales' days later - ''my van is broken'' a week later '' thermostat has gone on my van'' later that week '' cant get it fixed'' but he saved the best till almost last... after falling off the radar, ignoring voice mails, texts, whatsaps etc, one day he randomly answered the phone ''im in hospital, ive had a massive brain seizure, not got my phone'' ???? hang about you (insert rude word) if youve not got your **** phone, how the ***** am i talking to you? ''my wife brought it in about half an hour ago. im being discharged (apt for an auto electricain) this afternoon, ill come tomorrow. tomorrow came and went, unlike him. then found the other guy, he did more autoelec trickery (possibly including runes and tea leaves) and dismantled the entire cabin from the front seats to the windscreen then announced the car needed to go to his workshop where he could do more. (not unresonable but the car now internally resembled something from a breakers yard, no dash no steering wheel) managed to find a towtruck guy by random chance who had an ex AA recovery truck, he took the car to the workshop, auto elec then got covid, but eventually sent me a video of the car running - sounded like a tractor but it was running. car reassembled, brought back and running well. down side is finding someone to make a second fob. car is having wheels powder coated, should have it back today. now just need to get the boot thing sorted.
  5. honest answer, im not sure. for a few months leading up to the failure the screen kept flashing up 'no key detected' even while the engine was running, which was odd, so i used my spare key fob, same issue appeared on occasions but car didnt stop or any oother symptom. so i changed key fob batts. car eventually refused/failed to see either fob, but as per the OP had the same symptoms. i did have a claimed auto elec come to the car after a recoding specialist said recoding wouldnt cure it, he would try it, if i wished, and pay £300 for his time but he felt it would be wasted money. auto elec f**cked about for a few hours and could have damaged something further i agree. he went away to get a wiring diagram and never came back giving excuse after excuse. 2nd guy managed to get the ign to come on, but car wouldnt start, he managed to get code readings which said immobilser system fault. so he changed the immobilser system, inc sterring colum because he reckoned the immobilser sys also effected the sterring lock and electroninc steering, the entire kit only cost £240 so by that stage i told him to do it. after he did it the car started then stalled. he checked further into the loom and found a short section of bad wire. that had caused a fault to occur in the replacement key sensor, which he then got repaired (hindsight suggests that the original sensor could have been repaired though, i agree) he fixed the bad wire and car has run ok, except for boot remote which he will look into. so the original cause could have been the bad wire.
  6. sorry to be the bearer of possibly bad news, im NOT a mechanic (for clarity) but i have just had the exact same problem with my is220d sport. after messing around with various autoelectricians - who were, in hindsight, numpties, the latest auto electrian stripped the entire dash out and had to change the remote key sensor, which seems to live right under the windscreen near the centre speaker grill. the worst news was that to change it he had to buy a new immobiliser kit (pre owned, i.e second hand) which includes the steering column and quite a few other modules. car now works again (except for boot remote which he needs to solve) and im down to only one key. best wishes with it and good luck.
  7. indeed. decided to keep it for a while longer, so priced a gear knob from Lexus... £250 ! and gaiter, another £250 ! so having wheels refurbed instead now.
  8. Hi all, im new to the forum, ive recently had a long winded electrical fault on my 220D Sport. it took ywo auto electricans (well one good and one time waster) to sort it. at one stage on an 58 plate car to see all the front end internals removed - dashe, tunnel audio head, steering wheel put, and the car not having run for 5 months (by that stage) i seriously considered scrapping it. however, auto sparky Mkii came through. it was a wiring conection had gone bad and caused a fault in the key sensor. so replaced immobilser system which includes the steering colum and bits hidden in weird (to me) places for security reasons. problem was at that stage all that was known was that it was an immobilser fault. new immobilser unit was then fried due to same fault - cue weeks spent by sparky looking for a bad wire. he found it, sensor repaired, Lexus back on road rebuilt. no rattles from reassembled dash etc. so on that basis im well chufed. car is, as i said a 58 plate sport. in truth its one of the best vhicles ive owned reliavilty wise. as diesels go its not the highest mileage, but its a bit like schitt from a shovel when the EGR is clean and i get the gear box changes right. Ive done 100,000 miles in it - it still passes mot first time (with maintenace) has an awesome sound system. sadly, and this is maybe me getting used to rear wheel drive again, it no longer looks for excuses to send me to A+E when the road is wet, missus is either happy about that or is hiding her feelings well. car is a great vehicle, lexus dealers make Jeep dealers look like decent chaps though. 100,000 miles back - car needs new radiator today still got same radiator. many other issues dealer wise, but why spoil a good car?
  9. latest up date. got Lexus back from auto elec today, finaly fixed, it needed a whole new immobilser system (second hand) which includes steering colum. the problem was initialy the sensor that lives right at the back of the dash, but it all had to be changed to mesh with the new sensor, then it blew the new sensor. cue hours spent by very good auto elec examing the wiring loom. turns out a connection had gone a 'bit bad' and damaged (burnt) a wire which then damaged again the control box.. fault now fixed.
  10. Hi If anyone can help, it would help with whats left of my sanity. (ive also posted this in the clutch/start switch area but please dont think im spamming - the car hasnt moved for 6 months) the problem started with not starting, first reaction was to jump start car - which worked a few times. then didnt. suspected parasitic batt drain, put batt on charge, car wouldnt start next day after full nights charge. took batt to be tested, battery tested fine on 3 diff test machines - onw at eurocar part, two at halfords (belt and braces) then wasted a long time on a waste of space autoelectrician who could write the book on excuses for not turning up etc etc. car would allow keyless entry but wouldnt show any ignition lights either on start button or dash panal. found a second electriciam just after christmas, he spent a fair few hours poking probing meter reading - still no sign off life from ignition, steering lock wouldnt release. this guy then jumped something across in one of the under bonnet relay boxes (near side front) and got ignition on far enought to get a code reading - which indicated immobiliser fault. ordered replacement immobilser kit - which includes steering column and loads of othe stuff. elec then stripped out entire dash, head unit for audio (seriously heavy bit of kit that one) to get at the imobiliser unit, located right at the back of the dash, under the windscreen at that point i had the car recovered from my house and over to his unit. replacement immob units fittted, steering lock will now release and car will start up - but only runs for a few seconds. wiring checks out ok (he has now aquuired a toyota/ lexus scanner - but tbh im not sure if its a pro one, or like the after market, but good, Jeep ones available - but which lack the dealer level access). seemingly all the codes indicate all is well (hence my question on acces level to memory) speaking to a VW guy today he said he has had similar issues on higher end Audis (presumably the ones whith indicators but no indicator control) and he reckons its a coding issue? replacement immob system came with only one key, but that shouldnt be an issue in this matter? Any help gratefully accepted.
  11. Hi. sorry for my tardines on this. heres teh latest update - the problem started with not starting, first reaction was to jump start car - which worked a few times. then didnt. suspected parasitic batt drain, put batt on charge, car wouldnt start next day after full nights charge. took batt to be tested, battery tested fine on 3 diff test machines - one at eurocar parts, two at halfords (belt and braces theory) then wasted a long time on a waste of space autoelectrician who could write the book on excuses for not turning up etc etc (see earlier posts). car would allow keyless entry but wouldnt show any ignition lights either on start button or dash panal. then found a second electrician just after christmas (the guy i mentioned in above posts), he spent a fair few hours poking, probing, meter reading - still no sign off life from ignition, steering lock wouldnt release. this guy then jumped something across in one of the under bonnet relay boxes (near side front) and got ignition on far enought to get a code reading - which indicated immobiliser fault. ordered replacement immobilser kit - which includes steering column and loads of othe stuff. elec then stripped out entire dash, head unit for audio (seriously heavy bit of kit that one) to get at the imobiliser unit, located right at the back of the dash, under the windscreen at that point i had the car recovered from my house and over to his unit. replacement immob units fittted, steering lock will now release and car will start up - but only runs for a few seconds. wiring checks out ok (he has now aquuired a toyota/ lexus scanner - but tbh im not sure if its a pro one, or like the after market, but good, Jeep ones available - but which lack the dealer level access). seemingly all the codes indicate all is well (hence my question on acces level to memory) speaking to a VW guy today he said he has had similar issues on higher end Audis (presumably the ones whith indicators but no indicator control) and he reckons its a coding issue? replacement immob system came with only one key, but that shouldnt be an issue in this matter? Any help gratefully accepted.
  12. latest update. I eventually found an auto electrician prepared to tangle with a Lexus. he came, scratched his head, said the news is ''all the usual culprits seem ok'' great new 😞 so it must be something complicated. then christmas got in the way. steering lock is engaged, found a tow truck guy who wanted to take a scaff bar to the steering lock! polietly told him to go away. Auto electrician came back and had a way to jump something in the system which allowed him to at least get a scan of the systems. seems its something in the immobilser set up, so we;ve now ordered a an immobillliser system, quite a few modules including stop start button (which tested ok though), which sadly comes with only one key. if it works i'll keep updating.
  13. Thanks all, christmas and my still broken lexus got in the way. happy new year to all though.
  14. Hi, indeed, to my eternal shame ..... yes. it has been, and hopefully will be again, a great car,
