Thanks for all the useful info. I too have the heating element showing through the silvering on my passenger side door mirror (1998 LS400) - an obvious MOT fail in a months time. New replacement mirror (glass only) from local dealer is prohibitive and needs to be on 'special order'. The e-bay mirrors seem to be a glass overlay type held in place with double sided self adhesive pads. Can anyone advise is this satisfactory please? Donalex

Thanks Hogie. I hope the same is true of my transmission. I took the car to the local Lexus dealer who said the 2 nd gear valve was breaking up. Needless to say I didn't believe him because Lexus would take precautions against this. Also I have little confidence in this Garage's abilities to correctly diagnose problems. I have an early LS 400 (1991) fitted with a 3 speed plus overdrive transmission. A few miles into any trip I get the amber O/D light flashing slowly. The main dealer refuses to tell me what this indicates. Can anyone out there with a workshop manual advise what this little amber light is trying to tell me please?
