  1. I picked up my 2017 CT (used) from a Toyota dealer this week and they actually filled the tank for me. I had to ask though (as the day I was negotiating he said he'd throw that in). It was near empty when I collected it, had to mention it to him... He pretended he didn't do it yet because he didn't want to get the car dirty after being polished and things but no doubt he was trying his arm at not filling it.

I suspect a new (or approved used) Lexus it's just a matter of mentioning it in a way that you expect it and that for them to not play ball, is only to make themselves look bad to deliver your new Lexus without the full tank.

  2. Hearing a lot about the Relax warranty and how it's worth getting. I'll have 3 more years of eligibility with my CT.  I've never really bothered with dealer servicing before (even on my current 5.5 year old Toyota). I just got genuine parts / fluids from the dealer twice a year for DIY servicing.

But given that at minimum, I will need to get a Hybrid Health Check every year, that softens the blow of the cost..

Just curious for any of you here (particularly with CT200h but other models also welcome) - has the Relax warranty saved you yet? How much did it save and what jobs were done?

  3. Hi there, I’m seeing a lot of issues with the head gasket and EGR on these cars.

    - 2014 onwards allegedly was changed (new head gasket and pistons etc), is this issue much less common on later cars?

    - EGR, physically taking it off and checking it. Along with the pipe. And the intake manifold.

    - Block test and pressure test on engine to check head gasket issues.

if it fails any of these, I’ll be within my right to reject the car and withdraw from it. I’ll have a couple of weeks to order kits and do tests.

    what else is worth checking?

  4. Just curious for when this becomes a consideration.  What brand / model of tyres do you use on your CT? Do any of you run winter tyre sets plus summer?

I had a car with Michelin Pilot Sport 4's fitted, they were amazing. With my last car (large saloon) I put Primacy 4 S1's on them because they were 'A' rated for wet handling and 'A' rated for fuel, but after finding that the tyres make basically no actual difference to MPG I don't think I'd worry too much about the label in the future.

At one stage I put Cross Climate 2's on (after Pilot Sports) and the car suddenly couldn't go fast around corners or roundabouts half as well!  Would that be the same on the CT? Do any of you run Cross Climate or 'all seasons' on it and still get a nice drive on dry days around the bends?

No it won't. The OEM battery is very small and there isn't much space around it in boot to accommodate anything bigger.

Thanks. Nothing I can do about that.

Hoping mine is okay when I get it. Been sitting around most of the last year

  6. So, I’ve got a £250 Varta Battery in my current car… my plan was to keep this and buy a bare minimum job to trade the car in with.

Will this fit or work with the Lexus?

    it’s a Varta F21  AGM 80Ah 800A battery

looking at a Corolla 2019 we have in the family… it uses a very small square looking basic Battery. So I’m thinking mine won’t fit?

    image.thumb.jpeg.162fb3265f14325dc12d0d86ea253c2a.jpeg

  7. Preparing to have to buy a new Battery soon enough for a CT I’m buying. If I’m lucky it’ll get me through until end of this year / next January though.

EuroCarParts has one Yuasa.. £300+ and Halfords has nothing. I used to use them to get an idea of the compatible specs.

What is the correct spec / maximum spec?

on my old Toyota I went from an EFB Battery (recommended) to an AGM for better performance.  Cost me a bomb at £250 (now £270). Just wanting to measure the damage ahead of time.

which models have you all went for?

  8. Hey all, spoke to my Lexus dealer today (not who I’m buying it from btw). @Malc1 they gave me the full service history!

Years 1-3 Lexus serviced. All good. according to schedule.

4-6 it came to NI. Sold and bought back and resold via the Toyota dealership I’m trading into now for it.  Their service is logged on the Lexus system but they used Castrol oil. I see Toyota / Lexus part numbers so I’m hoping it was all genuine parts. Spark plugs were done.

I’m going to be booking services 7-8-9 (24-25-26) with Lexus for the relax warranty from mid this year onward. Plus coolant, brake fluid, wipers etc on top initially.

so, the engine air filter according to Lexus says 30k / 4 years. Can 4 years really be okay? Seems very long. Always treated this as an annual thing on all my cars to date. Is it a hybrid difference?

You mentioned in another thread that the car had been sitting for a while. Since the 12V battery in a CT is relatively small and drains faster than a regular 12V battery if the car sits for a while for instance, I would include to check the battery health in your list.

Best would be to buy a new one so you know it's history and age.

I spent £250 this time last year getting a very nice Varta AGM Battery for my outgoing car.. sigh.  Though I'll replace this one too if need be.

This car can give all sorts of electrical errors, all dashllghts on etc. if the 12V battery is not in good health.

Mine read 75% health at the dealer when serviced, still in good health according to them, but a week later my car failed to start...

Changed with a new one and all was back to normal.

Good to know this upfront if I run into any electric issues - thank you. My first car, a little old petrol, would have electric power steering always go first when the voltage dropped! haha

My last car was the same, died a few times. Jump started. Took it to Halfords for the free check, they said it was fine. Next day (frosty morning) wouldn't start.  A couple of weeks ago I just got a little glovebox size car jump starter, so that might get me by for a while until a new Battery.

Really don’t understand why Lexus at the Centre couldn’t make this info available tbh …… if they wanted to be usefully helpful !

    Malc

I have just sent an enquiry off to Lexus Belfast asking about the service plus the extras I've listed. I think that would get me off to a good start. I mentioned to them I am not yet aware of the existing Lexus service history, but asked if they could inform me in the meantime.. If they want to use that as leverage to convince me to book it in, I'm hoping they will!

It's the website I'm talking about so far, I haven't 'fully' verified the VIN as mine, so I can't see e-Store or Map updates either yet. Once I get the V5C I'll be able to access it. Fingers crossed.

Don't think the transmission fluid is considered aa service item.

Also, spark plugs are a service item, which I believe are done at 6 year intervals, and are an additional cost to the major service.

I read that online, but then I see other videos saying how no fluid truly lasts a lifetime and giving it a change 60/100k miles would maybe be a good idea... but only if there is a drain plug / refill plug. Although in saying that, this is a CVT which I believe is quite different to a typical automatic gearbox? (I know in principle about the cone shaped gear and the thing sliding along it as required).

I added spark plugs to the list - thank you! Been in the diesel world too long...

    =====

So, hopefully Lexus will price me. Hoping the labour already involved in the major service might cut down on the total versus doing these separately.  The Toyota app used to show a lot more individual 'maintenance' items right down to gearbox oil change etc.

I wish I could find the full on maintenance schedule - what needs replaced, when and the mileage / time limits.  I found their every 10k intervals and what's included, but that tends to lack some things.

Do any of you know if there is such thing as 'Lexus Genuine Oil'?  I know there is Toyota stuff, from dealers in Toyota branded bottles. Now, I know as they share so much, a Toyota oil would be pretty much identical to Lexus oil if it exists... especially with this 1.8 Hybrid being in plenty of Toyota's... BUT, if I'm buying it from Lexus might as well get the Lexus bottle.  (ps, I know this will be made by one of the big oil companies but I'm happy to pay for it). By chance, do any of you use dealer services or parts / fluids?

Has the car the online Lexus service history schedule ….. from new to whenever ?

    Malc

I won’t be able to see until I get the V5C to get full access to that info sadly

Has it not had Full Lexus Service History to retain its 10yr Relax ? Warranty

    Malc

I can’t be sure of it yet. I’m hoping at least the first three years had it (once I get the V5C I can check online).  At best I think that’ll be the case. It’s been for sale in 2021 (same dealer) then traded in again for an event so I’d say while it was sitting at a dealership it probably never had stamps for 2023 or 2022

i am tempted to get the full service from Lexus but that’s £505 and I sort of want all the other fluids done etc, though I suppose I could just buy that from them up there for cheap 🙂

  12. Hi all, about to take ownership of a 2017 CT200h Sport next week. I’m unsure of the service history (for now). Assuming the worst… this is what I reckon is ‘every’ major serviceable part:

    Oil

    Oil filter

    Hybrid filter

    Hybrid health check

    Transmission fluid

    Brake fluid and bleed

    Engine coolant Coolant

    Engine air filter

    Cabin filter

    Steering alignment check / adjust

have I missed anything? Does this car have steering fluid or is it electric?

Do any of you use Lexus parts and fluids or are you getting on fine with quality oils and filters from third party brands like Castrol etc?

very excited to get the CT and if needed, get her up to top shape with the servicing

I can see it was first registered in Barrow in Furness, a bit late now but I always avoid cars from the coast it's a bit salty, I'd have asked them to show you the engine bay, looking for rusty pipe clips and bolts, in the current climate there are a lot of cars being used as submarines.

It’s definitely been in NI since at least 2021 (as I found a video of it at the same dealership on YouTube). Apparently it was bought then traded in when they did an event shortly after. Hopefully if it came here say 2020, that’d mean only the first 3 years by the sea.  Hopefully.  I’ll look when I get it. I did tell them I expect the grit under the wing mirrors to clean up well (and not turn out to be corrosion). They are aware (I told them) if it’s corrosion I would return the car. They said they understand if that’s the case but that if that’s the case they’d also have it repaired / repainted.  Hopefully won’t need this.

Where I said F-Sport in my post, I meant Sport Pack Plus as the upgrade from the Sport. The F-Sport is indeed another trim upgrade with, as you said, different suspension. Well, at least it gave you some extra information and congrats on the purchase!

Ah I see, yeah I was so confused yesterday but it all makes sense now. Mine doesn’t have the extra pack sadly. But I am happy, compared to my Avensis it’s a step up in refinement and comfort and my first ‘auto’ car which I’ve also always dreamt of having.

Hi SB, well done they are a good car, though personally I wouldn't go near a black car, they show all the scratches and dents or one with a sun roof, don't want to worry you but I can't find any info of this car either with my, on phone App, has it had a plate change, better safe than sorry.

Thanks! And true, it’s a love hate thing. I like them but am well aware. I think (especially if the dealer polish isn’t great) I will get it paint corrected and touched up next year for sure as the swirls are certainly strong on this one.

not sure of plate changes, added it to My Lexus online but I need the V5C before it’ll show me the service history. Contemplating doing a check online but there’s so many … Cazana isn’t online anymore it used to show all the old ads and things if it was for sale (even Facebook?!).  What sites are to using or would you recommend? I could send you the VIN if it would help

very real risk of theft. Currently I do have a way to park my car in a way that the front left side is left inaccessible. However we no longer have the Honda Jazz which we used to "block the ES" in the driveway for additional detriment.

Just some ideas on this, find a relay or fuse (somewhere inside the car easy to reach) and maybe remove that each time - then nobody can start it. Not ideal, but might work.

Get a proper good GPS tracker fitted as well, in case if it is fitted it can be tracked by the police?  Might lower your insurance too.

  15. Well guys, I bought it. I got it down to £13k. Taking a bit of a loss on my Avensis but that was always going to be the case (floated it on AT a few times - no interest).

They've agreed to polish all the scratches out of it - it's quite rough in person scratch wise. And to repair the alloys (one has a big metal edge scrape) - and to valet the interior as it's a tad.. mouldy inside (but I've seen this on a lot of other cars, even 25k+ newer Mercs for sale that were sitting).

I think how rough and unloved it looks in person is why it's been sitting - that, for the former 14.3k price wouldn't interest anyone. Not least a seasoned Lexus buyer. But for £13k and the promise of having it corrected, I was quite happy.

I own a 2018 Avensis which has the dreaded BMW diesel engine - that's pretty much the main reason I'm selling it as I don't like what I'm seeing with owners experiencing catastrophic or costly failures on 2016/17 models already and a £3600+ quote for timing chain job by Toyota, who admitted they don't want to do it and haven't done it before, as they say the chain is a lifetime part...  Anyway, it was a Toyota without reliability. And it was a bit neglected in the range too. Size was nice, but expensive to fuel and bad MPG of low 40s, in return for no real power.

So I went looking for another Toyota or Lexus product. CT200h is perfect. A little smaller, still practical, a bit more thought into the driving experience, petrol (I prefer petrol), hybrid!, pure through and through Toyota engineering with some aspects taken further with the Lexus touches 🙂

In around a week it'll be ready to pick up. I am so so so excited. I appreciate and look after any car I've owned, from truly owned and done cars, to the newer ones in between, but I think this will be the first car I'll own that's truly a car people buy because of it's virtues beyond fitting a price point, or ticking a box, I think this is the first one classed as 'luxury' and one that will very much reward putting a lot of time in polishing, servicing, looking after and driving from 🙂

Not in the UK myself, but I always like to "investigate" these kind of things just for fun.

It looks like in the UK Lexus offered a Sport and a F-Sport.

    https://mag.lexus.co.uk/high-value-sport-model-leads-new-2017-lexus-ct-range/

The Sport had a more basic trim which could be upgraded to a F-Sport with i.e. sunroof, sensors, smart key entry etc.

Maybe that's why you found CT's listed as Sport where some had those options and some don't.

This explains it perfectly! I was confused as to why a later ‘Sport‘ had less. Although it means no doubts about the car having been chopped and changed in the past.  I knew about the F-Sport and it being much higher spec including a suspension option (lateral something?)

    1 hour ago, Poundy said:

Good price for the year and mileage if it has history, sport or not. Kia agent part exchange they probably want rid of. Hard to recognise in black, stand out better in red often with black roof, trim, side mirrors and wheels. Same spec as standard otherwise. the F had the spindle front grill.

I've been offered around that price for my 14 plate non S with approx 47k

Glad to hear you guys think it’s a good price.

it was previously listed at £14,300 but hasn’t been selling. Half a year if not more. Can these sitting around that long go bad with the hybrid Battery

Is there anything else I should be particularly on the look out car or engine specific with these? Going down at 4 today is the plan

  17. So, been looking on AutoTrader at all of the CT200h 'Sport' variant. Some have the sun roof and heated seats, others don't.

I wish I knew the VIN for it so I could get the vehicle summary from Lexus-Tech.eu but looks like I'd have to pay a tenner on some car history look up to get it from the reg

  18. 17 minutes ago, DrShockr said:

Something doesn't seem to be adding up if I'm honest, unless the 'Sport' trim changed drastically between 2015 and 2017, theLexus Mag link also says the Sports trim has heated seats and parking sensors, from what I can tell this car does not have either of those. It looks quite low  spec.

That's true, it's these things that are worrying me about it. I'm going down tomorrow to get another look and so they can value my car.

I will ask about the discrepancies from the Lexus mag link: no dark glass, no heated seats, no sensors, no sunroof.  I think they will tell me they were options or that it changed...  I wish I could find a 2017 brochure - only one I can find is for the upcoming facelift announced around 2017 when the trims all changed going forward

  19. Hi all, I am interested in buying this car: https://www.donnellygroup.co.uk/used-cars/16045164-lexus-ct-200h-1.8-sport-5dr-cvt-auto/

Been listed for half a year now. Price has dropped 1k.

I've test driven it and all seems well.  However, they are marketing it as a Sport. It has the sport wheels, sport black parts, sport interior upholstery.

Edit: My mistake. Parkers can't find the reg. But Gov check shows indeed it's a sport. My original issue is no longer an issue.

Only issue now is, Lexus Mag when the 'Sport' came out in late 2015 as a trim, shows a standard electric til / slide sunroof.. I don't think the one I'm looking at has this. Didn't show it was an 'option', is this a reason to be concerned? https://mag.lexus.co.uk/meet-the-new-lexus-ct-200h-sport/

Found the below video from the same seller in 2021... Wonder why someone bought it and sold it so soon. And why it's been sitting so long. originally at just over 14k.. now reduced to just over 13k
