  1. If you see my post about taking the leap a lot of your questions are answered there. Let me just say though that 1) it's the best car buying decision I made and 2) the Dealers are absolutely fantastic. No wonder they constantly win What Car awards etc for Service. It's impeccable and second to none. I don't work for Lexus, am just blown away by how good they are as I have dealt with BMW Services previously and they are crap.
  2. Apart from the Bay and the local Scrappers is there anywhere you can get a good choice of Lexus parts? I'm trying to source an orginal Remote Key Fob that's in the owners manual.
  3. Wow mines a Grand Daddy - 1995 - 172,000 miles
  4. Took her home today and it's only then you begin to notice the niggles. Interior light doesn't come on when opening the front doors Toyota key fob, no boot release Boot release lever doesn't seem to work Heated seats not working Anywhere cheap for parts (aside from ebay)? Anyone fitted front and rear parking sensors?
  5. Arranged to part ex the ole 728 for an older but better performing LS400. It's still on Autotrader if anyone wants to have a nosey. It's an M Reg for £2495 from G&A Motors. A big 2007 thanks for everyones advice and help, I'm sure I won't regret it. And if it goes wrong badly I know where you live!! :D :D
  6. Have driven one today and have to say it was okay. The first thing I noticed apart from the silence is that the steering is very light. It was a 95 M for £2495 with 170k on the clock. The heated seats didn't work, and it had had the brakes done (£1100) a few months back! He said you should also check the suspension on these as that can cost? There was also a scuff on the rear bumper. Checked all electrics worked fine (apart from heated seats). Bodywork looked okay (apart from scuff). Dark Green exterior and beige interior. He wouldn't give me a part ex on mine as I said I was looking at other Lexus's. Mines a BMW 728i S reg on a 98. Private plate. Full BMWSH. 130K. Have seen another Lexus on Autotrader with 100K same age etc for the same price? What am I looking for on these? What do I need to watch out for?
  7. I've seen some for sale for about £1500 are these classed as dogs, or are they still good at that price they seem to be G or H reg. I enquired about part-ex'ing my 728 with a P reg LS400 that was for sale for £3995 but was told I would need to put money towards part-ex'ing mine for the Lexus. I even have a private plate worth a grand but they said it's more hassle for us to sell with the car??
  8. Wow such generosity thankyou everyone, but a little bit of the secret is out. I have looked at the S Class - sparse interior (I like my toys) - never driven, the Audi A8 (something inside me says No) - never driven. The Jag (can only think of John Prescott) too old man'nish - have driven. BMW (not really again). Although I do love my BMW, I have to admit I was a little afraid of sitting in the LS the other day. Afraid that my whole notion of reliability, luxury were the realms of the BMW\Merc domain. When I sat in the LS and turned the key, I got goose bumps on my arms. My first thought "wow, were in a different league here aren't we. I've driven a 740iL and that feels like my own car but with a bigger engine. From my short experience with that LS I have to say one thing, and I noticed this when I drove in a GS300. They don't seem to do good quality dashboards, it looked plasticy. I know that's not everything, but I felt it stood out.
  9. So are there Independent Specialist like for Bimmers? As for driving one, funny you should mention that. There isn't a single garage were you can actually test drive a car without being obliged to buy. It's all very well reading reports and articles but quite another to drive the thing. But in answer to your question, no I haven't and can't seem to get anywhere that will let me without pestering me to buy there and then.
  10. I am swaying towards the LS. But now I want some honesty I want to hear some downsides. Particularly interested in servicing (Bimmer have the legendary Inspections 1&2 & Oil Service). Also day to day living. Me and the missus have a sandwich business so frequent trips to the C&C and Supermarkets are necessary.
  11. I sat in a 97 P Reg the other day at a local dealer and was suitably impressed. It had all the toys you would expect, but sitting there had a feeling not present in my BMW 728. However I have had my 728 for 4 years now and is beginning to let me down (130k). The thing is I don't want to trade in for a LS400 and end up jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Also the engine is a massive leap and I guess the fuel consumption is the same in reverse? Also I noticed the boot is smaller than my 728's? Any advice would be appreciated?
