  1. Hi, I have a 'v' plate 1999 IS200, and the stereo cd is knackered....the infaous 'error 3'......(6 cd's stuck in stereo!). Does anyone have a stereo in working order they want to get rid of? Or can anyone advise on how/where to repair. I got a quote from lexus of approx 300 quid to repair! Waaay to much! Thanks Ali
  2. Why do you want to change them all ? After reading 'Glasgow is200's' post above i thought it might be better......he said he got 3 changed and the car still wasn't right so he had to get all 6 changed. Why, do you think it should be ok just changing 1?
  3. Hi Does anyone have 3 coil packs they want to sell? I just bought 3 from another member, but after reading the above i'd prefer to change them all. Let me know Thanks
  4. Hey Guys....help me out here....puleeese.....
  5. Hi Guys, Some of you may remember me asking about ignition coils for my car. I am currently on hols and return at the weekend and need to get my car sorted then. My question is, I need to replace an ignition coil....should i stic to an original part or go for a cheaper non original one? Will it make any difference if i use non original and the other 5 are original? Also, has anyone got any for sale? Any help and advice will be much appreciated. Ali
  6. Hey Guys, I need a lexus coil pack, or a set of them if anyone can oblige?? Let me know please. Thanks
  7. I recently got my cam belt changed, so decided to get my water pump changed as a precautionary measure. I was glad I did though, because although it looked fine from above, it was actually leaking slightly at the bottom. Pics in this thread (at the end). The Toyota long-life coolant is pink in colour. If that's what's in your car (which is recommended), then it's pretty easy to spot if the water pump has been leaking because you'll get pink deposits around whereever it's leaking. The bypass pipe and o-rings by the pump are another common source of leakage (and another recommended thing to change if you're having to take the thing that far apart anyway). If you've got white scale around your pump then I wonder if you haven't got the "proper" coolant in it ? My coolant is the pink one, but need to look at the colour of the scale again. What should i look out for to know whether there is an active leak? Temp rising?. Is the water pump expensive to replace? Did you have it replaced by 'lexus'?
  8. I am interested....do you think its ok to fit used ones? I am presuming that the coil packs are the same for all IS200's....mines a '99 model. How many do you have and how much do you want for them?
  9. Im in Pinner, close to Watford, Ruislip, Harrow.....anyone?
  10. Cool, glad it might help you. Yeah, I'm a right numpty when it comes to mechanical stuff, so if I can change my plugs, anyone can ! As for new coil packs, you could try getting a quote from somewhere like CheapToyotaParts (I got my water pump from them recently). Talking of water pumps.....what are the symptoms of a failed water pump. I had an AA guy roun to look at my car and he saw that there was a bit of white scale around the water pump....he said if i took it to lexus they would say it needed changing!
  11. I used to use Lexus Hatfield! My 100000 mile cambelt service cost me £950!!!! And thats with no extra's, just the service and the cambelt! I now realise that they are ridiculously expensive compared to others. Mind you, i did once shop around and found that Twickenham lexus were cheaper on a particular service and lexus hatfield matched it! Still, I think i have paid out excessive amounts to hatfield!
  12. spark plugs could be changed by a novice on the is 200. only prob i had was i short and had to stand on my tip toes to reach the last one at the bulkhead lol. serious half an hour max. ik20 plugs off ebay for around 40-50 quid. tell them you dont want plugs changed. any decent garage can service it if you dont mind not having full lexus service history. only reason most people use main dealers is to maintain the warranty for first few years. Lol!!! Thanks for that, just looked through the walk through that steviewevie has posted and will try myself.
  13. Hey thanks stevie, the walk through is great....will deffo have a go myself. Any idea where i can buy discounted coil packs? There are some on ebay as stav mentioned, but not sure about used ones. Thanks
  14. Hi Been searching for the coils on ebay, cant find them! You remember which section they were in. Thanks very much mate
  15. Anyone know if this company is any good for servicing/repairs? Lexus specialists in Colindale.
  16. Hi Anyone heard of this company? Good/bad? Any comments much appreciated. Thanks
  17. Nah, they just fail over time mate, just get the faulty one(s) changed, and possibly the plugs as well if their due and everything will be fine. Ok Thanks. I'm new to this forum and am still trying to navigate my way around it! I've just posted something elswhere about servicing....basically lexus quoted me £750 for the 120000 mile service. I asked them why it was so expensive and they told me it was because the spark plugs needed changing and that was the major part of the 120000 mile service! If i go to another mechanic, what should i make sure he does for the service, i.e. what should he change and check? Is there anywhere i can get a 120000 mile service check list? Thanks
  18. By the way, anyone know what PrestigeCarServicing are like? Thanks
  19. Hi My Lexus IS200 has done 120000 miles, and it has been serviced by them up untill now. Thing is I called them up for the 120000 mile service and they said it would cost £750 !!!!! I asked them why so much and they replied that the spark plugs would be replaced and that was the major part of the service in terms of the high cost! My question is, is this reasonable? Also, if I wanted to take the car to another mechanic, what are the main things he should do in the service in terms of replacements, i.e. what should I ensure is done? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I live near Pinner in London and if anyone knows any mechanics that either specialise in lexus/toyota servicing or just any recommended mechanics, near me I would appreciate their contact. Many Thanks
  20. Thanks for that Stav. I was worried bcos i got to work yestday and it was fine, but when i started it to leave work it immediately started misfiring. Do you think there might be any underlying cause why the coil failed? Also when it happened the 'engine management' warning light was flashing on the dash, but at the same time the 'TRC OFF' light was also flashing?
  21. Hello! Ive got a 1999 IS200 Auto. Had to call AA round today as started to misfire all of a sudden yesterday! He plugged a computer in and fiddled about a bit and diagnosed that Ignition Coil no.6 needs changing. He was very surprised as he said he had never known a lexus coil to fail. My question is, what might be the reason for the coil failing? Is it simply a matter of getting the coil replaced or could there be another underlying problem? Would it be worth changing all of the coils and plugs? Finally, should I go to Lexus or should any good mechanic be able to sort the problem out? Thanks
  22. Hi...thanx for the advise...unfortunately i have 6 cd's that are stuck in the cd player!!! any idea where i might get a new head unit cheap? will the newer ones work in my V plate....i've seen some on ebay. Also...where do you get ures serviced...main dealer?
  23. Did u have any luck with getting your stereo replaced??i too have a 99 model.
